Update Your Status: Encouraging Members to Share Moments on PON

I would like to encourage members to use the status feature, just as you would on social media networks like BlueSky, X (Twitter), Facebook, and Threads. https://prideofnottingham.co.uk/ustatus/

This feature caught on after @Fan of Big Tone posted, and it's been a real joy sharing updates and posts as statuses to it.

There are a handful of members who seem to be making the most of the feature; the statuses go in your profile and on the page above. There's even a widget in the dashboard which shows x amount, where you can read more and comment. This could be a very nice addition to our community, and another way to express something short: your day, a photo, etc.

I'll be continuing to use it, especially during the new season.

PS. Once the moods app is upgraded, you'll be able to set that, too. πŸ‘πŸ»

yeah, it would be nice to see it being used as an extension to what is happening. some things might not be right as a conversation, such as more personal things and that is where the status feature could thrive. i did not know about it until tone shared about his running, or i had forgot about it. i have used it to check in with people too.

I used it to bring attention to my blog post, and I’ll look into sharing other things with it too. It’s got loads of uses, and it’d be great to see others make the most of it as well. There's real potential for us to use it more often.

That’s something I really admire about PON. There’s always a feature tucked away that you might not have noticed before, but it’s there if you choose to use it. It makes the site feel rich and full of useful bits.

The status feature sounds like a solid addition for the community. It could help bring members closer, let them share more, and make it easier to understand each other.

If this takes off should we ditch the weekly chat?

They could easily work alongside each other, there’s room for both in my view. Each brings something useful and doesn't need to replace the other.

I don’t always take part in the weekly chat, but I can see how it’s separate and offers something different. It’s good to have choice in how to get involved.

The weekly chat thread should continue because it encourages interaction, & what's great about the thread is one can talk about lots of different things going on in ones life, & any subject that one wishes to talk about from the weather, to going on holiday.

I reckon there’s space for both. The discussion section draws people in and gets proper replies. The status feature feels more casual, good for quick thoughts that don’t need a full topic. It’s great to see all parts of the site getting used.

No, not at all.

The weekly chat will always be encouraged for updating on what everyone has been up to, plans to do, and all those things that get the community talking to each other. I see the status as being more about personal achievements or things you would post on social media.

With statuses being more personal or socially inclined, it could lead to further topic discussions being explored.

I think the feature could work well if we keep promoting it, but I’ll still use the weekly chat too. For quick thoughts, the status is a good way to show what you're thinking, and it might encourage some of the social media crowd to join the chat on PON. There's no reason why people couldn’t share the things they post on X or BlueSky here as well.

I've only just joined but I'd already miss dipping into the Weekly Chat thread. Hope it continues!

Sometimes I avoid posting because of feeling repetitive, but it's a great community based discussion. It's brilliant to see new members joining in, as sometimes new arrivals seem a bit nervous or reserved. There's nothing wrong with that, not at all but it's always encouraging to see people enjoying the site.

I don't think the statuses feature would replace the chat, room for both. πŸ‘πŸ»

I enjoy reading what other members say about Notts and in the other threads too. It helps me feel more involved and part of the community. It’ll be interesting to see if the status feature on the site catches on. I’ll make sure I have a look when I next pop by.
