Notts have been beaten narrowly by Gillingham today at Priestfield. It was a scrappy match that was decided by a single goal one minute into the 2nd half.

Worry for Notts was leading scorer Dennis going off injured & also Gordon getting injured & being replaced.

So who was your PON Man of the Match for Notts? I have included the starting 11 plus 2 substitutions who came on in the 2nd half.

Please pick your Man of the Match from the following players.

Roos, McDonald, Aljofree, Bedeau, Gordon Palmer, Norburn, Tsaroula, Iorpenda, Dennis, Jatta, Robertson, Jones.

I’m going to abstain from this vote because I didn’t see the match and didn’t really hear of any stand out players from the radio but I hope others will vote for their MoM.

Just watched the match back and no one for me stood out as man of the match. It was an all round poor performance and Gillingham weren't much better. As @theAnticlough, says McDonald came closest, was the best of rest.

Four players achieve my shortlist for Man of the Match. Matt Palmer, Rod McDonald, Kelle Roos, & Jodi Jones when he came on as substitute.
I will reveal my Man of the Match out of those four later.

Jacob Bedeau isn’t playing at the level he showed last season. He’s been poor at the back and doesn’t offer much going forward either. I’m not sure what’s changed, but he’s making basic mistakes. It’s got to the point where I’m wondering what the people who used to criticise Kyle Cameron are thinking now.

Sonny Aljofree found it hard against stronger players. Gillingham are a decent side and they made the most of pushing and pulling our lads around. It got frustrating to watch, and both Aljofree and Bedeau had a tough time.

Rod McDonald was solid and stood out. Apart from him, only Jodi Jones looked like he was really involved in the match.

I thought Jodi Jones was the only player who looked lively and wanted to change the result. Passing backwards cost us too much. Even with two strikers, we made no progress without direct runs into space and Gillingham were able to control the game. I felt that despite the 1-0 scoreline, both teams were poor in front of goal. Jodi gets my vote.

You've identified something very important @Sir Magpie. The wide defenders are absolutely crucial in any possession-based scheme. Who does the GK pass to more than anyone else? - the RCB/LCB. The CMs? The same, probably. The CB? The WBs?. Those two positions see more of the ball than anybody, so they've got to be up for using it and capable of doing so.

As you said, Bedeau been a shadow of himself so far. From Player of the Season candidate to nowhere near that level.

Aljofree's been good in defence 90-95% of the time, but when the other 5% is costing you goals on a regular basis, it's not much use. As for showing for it, using it, sparking attacks? I can't remember a single instance of positive play.

This is a very important area, crucial for our success this season. We have to hope Bedeau returns to last year's player soon. As for RCB, the achilles heel of NCFC since they got back into the EFL, I'm afraid the search goes on.

Thanks to all of the 54 members who voted on this poll.
It became a close contest between Rod McDonald, Jodi Jones, & Matt Palmer.
I'm pleased to announce that for his performance against Gillingham, Rod McDonald has been voted the Pride of Nottingham's Man of the Match. Well done Rod.

I've got RodMac down for at least 3 of these awards now....

When Platt gets back (unfortunately a long time away) I don't think anyone would want to see RodMac trapped on the right again with his left foot. As he says himself, CB is his position. So I'd imagine Platty becomes the latest player to try to solve our RCB position.

That's assuming Rod can maintain this run of great form in the coming months. I suppose that's an unknown

Well done to Rod McDonald. He has been excellent since coming into the team. At first, he looked like he might only be a rotation or backup option, especially after Lucas Ness arrived, but he has shown he is good enough to be a first-team regular. This is exactly what we want from players. He has earned his back-to-back Man of the Match awards from PON.

Oh oh oh ohhhhh, everywhere where we go, watching super County putting on a show!
