Good morning, it’s a new week and the weather looks as if it’s going to be another fine bright day. It was lovely yesterday I did some clearing up in the garden and got quite a sweat on, enough to warrant a cold beer sitting in the sunshine when I’d done.

How is everyone, what are you all up to? Is there anything you want to get off your chest? Come and have a chat.

I’m starting to think about what I want to do after school finishes this year. I’m not sure if I want to go to college or try to get an internship. Both have their good points, but I’m leaning more towards getting straight into work and learning on the job. If anyone has any advice, I’d be glad to hear it.

My advice would be to think very carefully what you want to do, whether it’s further education or going straight into the workplace, it’s a decision that could affect your whole future.

I know it’s tempting to go into work and start earning money but personally I think further education is very important, you can’t have too many qualifications and in the long run it will pay off. However it’s a decision only you can make, good luck in whatever you choose.

Further education, especially beyond school, does present you a chance to reflect on where you are going, and how your thoughts change with further maturity @KingofCounty. If you get a job where you can learn, and enjoy it. Then that is worth equal consideration, but don't rush to make a decision. Don't make the mistake of thinking college or even Uni would be the same as your school years.

Working life can be a drag, people end up being misplaced and hating what they do. I am working on my dream job, and I enjoy being a journalist. So, I am lucky that I knew at an early age I wanted to write for a living.

Balance the things you enjoy, compared to the things you would like to learn, and make a formal decision.

Hello, @menzinho. I can see you typing!! 🤣 👋

Sounds to me like an apprenticeship could be well worth looking into @KingofCounty, you get the best of both worlds, actual employment but working towards qualifications as part of it too and you can go as far as you like once you are in, even getting paid to do a university degree if you are lucky!

You can start at different levels, depending on whether you've just finished your a-levels or GCSEs. I did mine in Logistics after I left sixth-form college, working for a food production business, and that was a higher apprenticeship scheme. The great thing about it was I got proper training and a qualification by the end of it all. And the skills I learnt were very transferable too particularly as organisation and communication skills were so important, even after a few years I was able to change my career.

No idea what you're interested in but there is a good variety of apprenticeships out there and some big and impressive businesses that you can work for too.

Hi @TheSkipper 👋 I think I started typing long before you but you've managed to get your message across much quicker than I have!

i dont seem to have as much time in the day right now, i come home from work wanting to rest and by time i have its late. i need to try to get on here during my breaks and dinner when i have little to do.

work has been very routine, the rainy days has kept me in work.

it will be picking up soon due to the christmas rush, then things become a lot more hectic and demanding. outside of work i have not done much other than having been to crewe at the weekend.

i went straight into work and whilst my job has slow and busy days, i do like it and earning my first wages was really exciting. it depends on if you want a job for the long term, or if studying will help you earn more or get the job you want. good luck. 🙂
