1971, the year of decimalisation.The year when you could get eleven Loaves of bread for a Pound.

This is a very interesting fifteen minute video describing what you could get or how much you could get for a £1 note in 1971. The revelation will shock you, especially the young folks.

    @Robbie To put it into perspective my wages around that time were about £20 a week.

    To put it further into perspective a semi on a road where I lived as a boy was worth £3595 in 1971. Those houses are unaffordable now for people in their 20's just starting out. A similar house was recently sold for £225,000, nearly 63 times the 1971 price.

    Crisp bags, pop cans, chocolate bars.... At what point will they cost £2 each? Inflation does not make sense in some cases.
