Match Discussion: League Two - Accrington Stanley (A)

Featured Replies

Two of our bogey teams in the National League were Bromley and Boreham Wood, one is top of League Two and the other top of The National League. Is it time for a re-think?

Yeah, that was pants. We looked bang average, very little urgency or creativity. The only positive is that the powers that be can't be complacent in the January window, it's clear to everyone that we need reinforcements in key areas if we're to compete at the top end.

These are some hot takes:

  • Jones is cooked. I'd accept almost any bid for him - the AM test was a complete failure, he's roughly got one move which is to get down the left and turn 180 and try to pull a foul. It will sound disengenous, but I thank him for his service and we can move on.

  • We largely have a squad of "squad players" - Tsaroulla, Bennets, Gordon, Platt, Norburn are all maginal impact players that do a job - we, as obvious as it will be day in 12 hours, are missing vast amounts of creativity.

  • Ness as a forward screams to me that it's either a calcultated effort to shout to the board to back him, or MP isn't tactically brilliant as his pre/post assessments normally suggest he could be.

  • Jan is a massive crossroads - Given MP is probs on a 1 year and will likely be dismissed if we don't go up, will the board back him with all that on the table? His brand of football isn't beautiful (although my life supporting Notts is now tainted with Williamsball syndrome) and this is the first match apart from early doors that I've walked away thinking is it actually MP that's at fault.

We're above where the squad should be, but our lack of creating clear cut chances, even during our good run of form from mid-September onwards, is still a massive issue. (Barnet, Swindon first half, Cambridge first half, Bristol Rovers, Colchester, Chesterfield, Barrow, Salford, Gillingham, Tranmere first half).

We've got absolutely no clue how to create chances. Ball retention is terrible, our passing has no pace to it and we've got no idea where we want the ball to go or who we want it to go to, when we're in possession. So instead, when nobody is in space, we just launch it long to Dennis or Jatta who don't want it being played long to them.

Our wing-backs make my blood boil sometimes. Dither, dither, occasional step over, turn back, turn forward, turn back, pass back, go again.
