MAGnets - links to Swindon Town FC

The cup dreams continue, though the league form has a slight stutter.

Up next at Meadow Lane is Swindon Town. Β Ossie Ardiles, Glenn Hoddle, financial irregularities, Steve McMahon, and John "Pizza-man 'tasche" Gorman all spring to mind.

Β

However - what we all want on this thread is player / staff connections between the two clubs.

Β

I'll start with Steve Mildenhall - good keeper, but following on quite soon after Cherry and Ward - as two outstanding custodians - he was oft criticised and prone to an odd howler. Β I do remember clearly the start of the great escape season, when we seemed to concede 4 goals almost every other game. Β (just checked, details were at port vale, home to man citeh, at tranmere, at oldham, home to reading, at bournemouth - all before november!).Β

So - Mildy; anyone for anymore...

great shouts people - inspired by you all, i give you phil king.... Β  Β an onloan solution to the fabled LB "problem" of the midnineties, after dean thomas and alan paris succumbed to injuries.

I can give you a blast from the past - 60'sin fact. Eric Weaver.

We got Phil King from Sheff Weds from memory. Think he ended up at Swindon afterwards, did he not?

he had two spells at swindon, either end of his career (god bless rothmans football yearbook :-) ). Β we did indeed (surprisingly) loan him from wednesday, the club he spent the lions share of a career.

Β

i also seem to remember at the time he was linked with an england cap after pearce's injury / dorigos incompetence / david burrows' decline. Β and talking of international fullbacks, only a few months later we got michael "usa94" emenalo :-)
