Sad day/happy day

Featured Replies

Good morning everyone, I hope we are all well, yesterday was a particularly sad day for me, no not because Notts lost 4-1 but because it would have been my sons birthday, I still find it hard to believe he isn't here to share a pint and a laugh, three years ago he took his own life whilst going through divorce proceedings.

In contrast today is a happy day because my wife and I are celebrating our 40th Anniversary, we had a celebration meal on Friday with family so today is a quiet day with Mrs H and just chilling and relaxing.

Whatever you are up to have a great day.

Firstly well done on making 40 years together, secondly well done for having the courage to speak about the traumatic events of three years ago, I'm sure if your son was able to say the same he would.

The test of any person and their relationships are the darkest times and on both fronts you and Mrs H are a shining example to your grandson and the rest of us.

Condolences and congratulations in equal measure

Have a good day young man you deserve it.

@NorthantsPie,you have expressed my thoughts much better than I could and I agree with you entirely and echo your sentiments.

Thank you, I have previously shied away from saying he took his own life but I saw a documtary the other day called "life after suicide" it was very good and it made me realise that these things should be out in the open and not be a taboo subject.

Suicide us more common than I ever imagined we went to counselling sessions especially for families and friends of suicide victims and it was so sad to see new people coming every week who had lost a loved on through suicide, mostly young men too.

Anyway on a brighter note we are enjoying our anniversary on this lovely sunny day.

So sorry and I mean that. I can't imagine the pain of losing a child. We have to talk about these things. It's OK not to be OK. Modern life is very stressful. We need all the help we can get.

I think one thing that made us really sad was that people we had known for years crossed the road when they saw us because they didn't know what to say. I know how they felt, what can you say to someone in that situation, it's very hard.

A hug would have done, that's all we needed,

I've been trying to think of something to say but agree with granny .I can't say it any better than what @NorthantsPie said.

I'm pleased you and Mrs H have had an enjoyable anniversary and I can send you both this- :group hug: and hope it helps in some small way.

Genuinely hope you and Mrs H have managed to have a good day.

Whenever the night seems at its darkest there will always be a pin-prick of light and hope trying to get through.

Back to the normal missy sarcasm...

Maybe on this occasion a new joke book for you to teach your grandson a few new jokes would be in order after your interrupting cow one!!

Thanks all, we were determined to make yesterday a happy day as opposed to Saturday which was really hard for us.
