What an evening it's been - already England Women reached the second round of the World Cup, and they've only gone one better by beating Norway and making the quarter-finals!

Now, England have technically reached the quarters before, but in the past the competition was smaller and the second round was effectively the last eight.Β

So, they've made history today, by beating a pretty good and highly-fancied Norway side 2-1 - and how good was Lucy Bronze's goal?! Absolute thunderbolt that will certainly be shown on the various social media channels in a few hours!

Could this be the best England Women side we've ever had?

First half was terribly poor, neither side looked all that impressive at all. Norway could have sealed the game, which highlights how woeful they performed. I really think England need to pass with their minds set on the fact they can win whoever they face.

As the second half they didn't seem convinced at all.

Second half England played better, very impressive but being honest I didn't see a way back into the game until they scored. Just like our goal, the equaliser was of a poor standard but a well placed header. I am pleased a screamer won the game! That final goal to seal it was magnificent! Absolutely breath taking!

Also, will they please shut up about the England No.1, half if her saves were standard but they ranted on about her.

One acceptable performances doesn't make her deserving of her position.

Well we wake up this morning to find out that our ladies are through to the semi finals, absolutely marvellous, well done girls. Did anyone stay up to watch it?

Great win. Next up is Japan. They looked pretty ordinary against Australia but they have won every game they have played and are the defending champions. I do believe that the last team to beat Japan in the WC was....England in the group stages in 2011.

Yes I watched it all the way.England opened the scoring after about 15 minutes following a defensive error and added a second 5 minutes later. This was somewhat against the run of play and the Canadian Ladies looked a bit shell shocked but did eventually score just before half time. The second half saw Canada increasingly pressurising England and Keren Bardsley our goalie wentΒ  off after suffering an allergic reaction in her eyes.At times it was desperate, back to the wall defending from England but with some good counter attacking.I really enjoyed the game.

I was in Gracie O'Malley with other Canadian fans. My Mum & Dad are visiting and were the only England Fans lol.

I got into a verbal with one of the Canadian fans as my Dad cheered for our ladies.

All good though :)

Can we go all the way? YES OF COURSE WE CAN

England played well don't get me wrong, however how the hell Canadian went two-nil down so early on I don't know.

Canada really went for it and until we had scored the second, we never really looked comfortable on the ball. I really did feel disappointed by how England had started, yet I will be honest it didn't stop me celebrating the goals because it was just magic. The thing I REALLY HATED, was the fact the pundits kept saying how England DESERVED to be in the lad and had played 'really well'.

At half time, I agreed with Trevor that Canada could get back into the game unless we took the control of the game.

Why do we as a nation always over hype performances? If England ladies had been 2-1 down, they would have been saying how poor they had been.

Oh and England should be Japan ladies but never count your chickens before they hatch!

England 1-0 Germany. 3rd place. First win against the Germans. A sign of things to come? Don't think so. Germany will win when it really matters. France are a better side as well. England will be favourites for the Euros. A different kind of pressure, should be a great tournament.
