What do folks think about the new Dr Who being a woman? Apologies to the ladies on the forum but honestly this is political correctness gone mad, Dr Who should be a man, he’s always been a man, a woman just doesn’t seem right.

Is it just me, what do others think?

It has always been a man as far as i can remember, so it just seems odd. I think its silly too, it should really follow how its always been, not change due to a modern way of doing things nowadays.

I suppose there's no reason why The Doctor shouldn't regenerate as a woman but I agree with you @Fan of Big Tone it doesn;t seem quite right..It's like James Bond becoming Jane Bond

When the Doctor regenerates, every cell in his (oops) body regenerates too. So why shouldn't he regenerate as a female occasionally? He/she is a shape-shifting alien! Although admittedly regenerating as a male 12 times in a row is a bit of a hard sell now.

Anyway, every Doctor should be judged on their own merits, so give Jodie Whitaker a chance. Her Doctor reminds me a lot of Christopher Eccleston from the clips I've seen. Personally I'd have liked to have seen one more series of the Capaldi/Bill combo, especially after 753 series of the dull Clara, but hey ho.

I’m sure I will get used to the idea and even grow to like her, just seems odd.

I don't know, it seems to be one of the many TV shows trying to become all PC by making a statement to have a leading lady. I don't think this is bad, yet the decision seems to be forced and a few years ago there was a rumour about a lady Doctor Who which was very unpopular at the time. There's a couple of shows in American that have done similar, I think we'll see more of it and for the most part I have no concern.

Personally, I just feel it's the wrong decision because it screws with the show. It means the doctor has to have a male love interest and it's just going to feel a little weird if any of the past sidekicks show up.

@Chris the Doctor should never, ever do love interests. We had that with David Tennant and it was awful, so I hope the makers never go there again. Or do you mean the companions?

The new Doctor Who could have a lesbian relationship with Clara now that might be interesting and very PC.

Each of the doctors have had a love interest, the last one did and he repeatedly said he was too old for the girl - it's cringe worthy.

The last doctor being much older than the others in recent years, seemed odd to me. He didn't really fit into the role that well either in my opinion.

I agree with him 100%, the decision to change sex is baffling and just part of the political stance with all this gender specific stuff.

will the assistant be a man this time then? its quite odd.

i dont think they should change the sex, i think its madness and could ruin the show more than it has already with losing good actors.

I thought Dr who was a bloke .. blimey things have changed since I last watched it ..!!! 

To be fair if a women can do it better good on her the name don’t suggest either sex if I’m honest 

I think the whole idea is daft and it will ruin the legacy in my opinion.

Not because of the decision to change the character from a man to a women but because it changes the dynamics of the whole show. I am not sure how this idea could possibly help the show in it's ratings or TV appeal.

I think if most people was honest, they would say it's a stupid idea and one which is just a sign of the times. I think it's more for publicity and to get people talking about the show, rather than moving towards a leading lady.

Dr Who should always be a man in my mind.

I think the shows been dying, so I can see why people think its for the ratings but I don't care. I would prefer them to focus on the stories and making them more entertaining but the gender of Dr Who does not bother me.

I've never watched an episode of Doctor Who in the 18 years I've been alive. But, personally I think it's a bit strange to have a woman to play the doctor (no offence to anyone who thinks a woman should play the doctor) as it's always been a male. But, I like programmes to stay how they have been since the beginning, but I have nothing against a female playing the role.

How can James turn into Jane? It's just the way Hollywood is going with the female take on films such as Ghostbusters, TV is now following. It's daft if you ask me.

In Doctor Who, much the same way that Matt Smith can turn into a white-haired Scotsman

I enjoyed it yesterday anyway. Jodie reminded me a lot of Christopher Eccleston's Doctor, but it seemed to suit her better. I was less impressed with the presence of Bradley Walsh, who sets my teeth on edge, but at least they had the decency to shoot him into space at the end of the episode.

Well it’s official dr who is a women seen the poster the other day ????????

I watched the first episode and wasn’t impressed at all, a woman as Dr Who just didn’t seem right, I love Bradley Walsh on The Chase but didn’t like him in this episode.

Maybe the series will grow on me.

When does it actually start? I never remember nowadays.
