Tyrell Waite

It's a little odd how players fall down the pecking order, I also can't pretend to understand how some get the nod and some continue to fall with regards to selection. Seeing young Murray got me thinking, as a club which requires goal scorers - I feel we have enough to make do. Enoch, Arquin and Haynes are strong contenders for any club in our league, they're players other clubs perhaps would be able to get the most out of.

Last season Enoch and Arquin seemed goal shy.

It was refreshing to see the minutes and appearances where Tyrell Waite got the nod. I was very pleased when he scored from the header, as his hard work deserved that.

I can't say I understand why we haven't featured him? He ran at defences, looked calm, passed nicely and made movement. Very keen in his appearance to play and do well.

Why do we stick to backing players who are inconsistent, whilst managers seem very patient to see the magic they do process. The exact same thing could be said about Zoko, although I don't see why we don't try Tyrell Waite. He always seemed value for what he probably earns, his efforts deserved rewarding but it seems he's fallen further down the pecking order - especially with the arrival of Coombes (who is a different style of player).

I really can't understand it, can you? Thoughts?

Waite was touted as being a huge potential talent. The brief glimpses we've seen of him suggest that he is very raw but has good instincts and an eye for goal.

My fear is that he, like many before him, has fallen foul of the tendency to deny youngsters opportunities, stifle their natural ability with over coaching & trying to turn them into muscle bound athletes instead of agile, mobile footballers.

He was on loan somewhere a while back, forget where but regular football should have helped him. I'd rather see him given a chance than Enoch blundering around or Haynes avoiding the ball and not looking to get in the box.

I thought Nangle looked pretty sharp and a lot stronger than last season when we saw him earlier in the season - what has happened to him too?

I guess it is early days for SD to know his squad and what they are or aren't capable of, he will need to see them in training and in practice matches before he an make up his mind who to select for this best available team. Who knows Waite and Nangle may well yet get their chance under the new regime.

SD will look at the available 'talent' and give them a chance.Anyone who doesn't  give their all will soon find themselves sidelined and  eventually the dead wood will be discarded. This means players that have perhaps not featured will also get their chance. With a bit of luck the right results will come.It will take some time for SD to make a difference.Hopefully some of the underperformers will  respond and one or two new faces will arrive to stave of relegation.SD is in a similar position as Nigel Clough when he came to Derby.Steady the ship, avoid relegation and build from there.

I for one would be quite happy to rip up the first team squad, given the position we find ourselves in. Who said you don't win nothing with kids?

Where possible make up the first 11 with development squad players. Let them have a run, perhaps 3-5 games in the side. With instructions to show they deserve to keep the shirt.

Only change where the holder hasn't done enough. But at the same time tell all of the currents that if they want the shirt back, then they earn it. No longer will an established player be the first choice for a shirt...

Let's make them all earn it, and have some proper competition for places, it must feel horrible as a youngster knowing that no matter how good you play, when given the chance that as soon as one of the "relics" is fit, you are going to be dropped again. No matter how poor the relic.

Give it the kids, give us something to get behind, give us real competition for places, and what's more, give us some new heroes of the lane.

Great escape 2014 anybody?

I think the sentiment there is right - but - the reality is that most of our youngsters are actually not quite good or strong enough. Tempest is a talented lad with a bit of muscle but he is struggling to have any impact at this level. Thompson is a terrific prospect, I rate his ability to go past a man but, sadly, he is lacking in his all round game and gets found out defensively when he plays. The others are keen but raw - Nangle, Waite and Dixon are all good examples of that IMO.

The risk of playing too many youngsters too early is that you destroy their confidence and burden them with too much expectation & pressure. Spiess is the only one genuinely capable of holding down a regular first team place in this League at the moment if you take McGregor out of the equation. I've watched Grealish 3 times now and I'm not convinced he's up to it either, despite his pedigree and a good debut, which I missed.

Thus, whilst it may sound attractive to play the kids, I fear the results and performances would still suffer and that will nothing to restore the bank balance, instil confidence or help to develop them in the med/longer term. It is a tough one tbh, but a blend of youth and decent experience, not rubbish like Fotheringham, Enoch et al, is the better option for me.

P4U - therein lies our problem. Perhaps they aren't good enough, but then at the moment neither are the first teamers. 3-5 games to show themselves, could it be any worse than where we are now?

As you say, perhaps not change all of them, but, do it seriously, not just paying lip service to the "go with the youth policy".

We are at the point where, we need to do something, doing nothing will only lead us to ruin.
