Match Discussion - Gameweek 46 - Wrexham (A)

Well ladies and gentlemen, it's squeaky bum time. Notts and Wrexham have identical win, draws and losses. Wrexham are ahead on goal difference. + 20 to + 18. Notts beat Wrexham 1-0 at Meadow Lane earlier in the season. Both teams have 3 games left. Both are on unbeaten runs and both know that a win here will put them 4 points ahead of 8th place with 2 games to go. Wrexham had a magnificent 3-2 win at Boreham Wood. They were 2-1 down in the 87th minute and their playoff hopes were in real danger. 3 minutes later they had won 3-2 and their playoff hopes had received a massive boost. That will give them momentum and confidence. Notts are coming in after a 2-2 draw with Bromley, but knowing they did enough to win the game. Notts should be confident based on recent results. It's a difficult one to call but I think Notts will nick it 2-1. A draw wouldn't be the worst result for both teams given that both have very winnable games next weekend.

Great win. 4 points ahead of 8th. A win against Weymouth guarantees a playoff place. I'm happy.

Sounded like an excellent performance, really happy with how things are shaping up after we'd all written them off just a few weeks ago.

And it sets the stage perfectly for Weymouth on Saturday. I'm so jealous of you all. Four wins to League Two.

Cracking result. Both halves superb in different ways. First half was pure IB philosophy imo. Attack, attack, attack. He has rejuvenated a squad that was looking poor for a long time.

Second half was to be expected, but we dealt with superbly.

I’m not one of these “they were all rated 10” people. The positives were there for all to see, but looking forwards…Chicksen (who came back so well) looked sloppy again with the passing. He’d be one I’d be looking for a replacement for, but that’s a future conversation.

If I were IB I would seriously consider what my ‘go to’ formation is going to be next season, whichever league we’re in. Signing Miller for anything apart from flying wingback or winger is a mistake. He’s not a fullback and his talents would be wasted if we revert to 4 at the back and put him at LB.

If he signs him  as a left winger in a 4 4 2 then where does Cal Roberts fit in? Does Rodders still play the 10 role just behind Wootton making it more 4 4 1 1?

And it’s painfully obvious the DKE is a brave guy, but he’s not the best at blocking the cross or his the final delivery when attacking.

Not being down on tonight’s performance btw. Absolutely buzzing with a great 3 points.
Just thinking ahead, which is vital for IB to do now, not in a months time.

@Feral Fox Not sure that IB is a straight back 4 kind of coach

He will go 3-1-4-1-1. Ellis, Lacey, Rawlinson +2 new signings for the back 3. O'Connor, Bishop style player needed for midfield height and presence. Roberts/ Ruben interesting but do you see a future for Enzio?

Don’t disagree, but I’m sure I heard an interview in the first week where he said he didn’t like 3 CBs and it’s needs must at the minute, but long term not for him.

Recent results and displays may have changed his mind though as he strikes me as a coach who can adapt easily. Unlike Ardley, who couldn’t adapt at all to differing teams or situations.
