  1. Quite a lot of name-dropping in the interview, I personally think he shot himself in the foot by joining Forest Green Rovers. The level of criticism he faced seemed unrelenting, but it's difficult to deny that karma played a role when he condemned all of us, even though it was only a small group who booed him. As for saying he's pleased to take a step back, he would say that. It'll take him awhile to find an English club willing to give him the time of day as a manager. His time at FGR always came across as a growth killer.
  2. I think Cal Roberts will come back from it, he's got that determination, but I think there will be a limit to the level he'll reach. The main thing is to recover and then to enjoy his football. A footballer doesn't need to play in the Premier League to become a legend or known as being a great player. Fingers crossed he will recover quickly, and ideally it's not a fracture.
  3. Bowling for Soup, Hey Mario - Don't mind if we do.
  4. Whilst I will forever be thankful that my mum's father, my Granddad Ray, took me to see Notts. I will always be thankful for the connection I share with my dad (@super_ram) and his love for my team. I have a soft spot for Derby through this and whilst I will always be a Notts fan, just like he will be a Derby County fan at heart. There's nothing stopping us from cheering on the other club and, fingers crossed, I can drag him to Meadow Lane this upcoming season. I am sure he wouldn't mind an excuse to catch up with his mate, @Fan of Big Tone.
  5. Barry Buckley, also known as Super Ram on the Pride of Nottingham site, has been a lifelong fan of Derby County Football Club. Growing up in Alfreton, Derbyshire, Barry’s earliest memories of football date back to when he was just three or four years old. He has fond memories of listening to the football results on the BBC Light Programme’s ‘Sports Report’ with his father. His dad’s Littlewoods Football Pools coupon would also be checked. “I was fascinated by the names of some of the teams being mentioned and my dad’s reactions,” Barry says. Barry’s love for Derby County was nurtured by his dad’s youngest brother, Stan, who was about six years older than him and like a big brother. Stan was obsessed with Rams and would always tell Barry about the history of Derby and its players. “He got me to learn Derby’s FA Cup-winning team by heart, and the nicknames, team colours and grounds of other teams,” Barry remembers. Barry’s first experience watching Derby play live came when he was just a young boy. While visiting his grandparents one Saturday in March 1956, Barry had a fun-filled morning with his cousin Tony. It was during this playful time that Tony's father, Uncle George, proposed a thrilling idea. He proposed taking both Tony and Barry to watch Derby County, but only if Barry’s grandmother granted permission. Although Derby lost and were subsequently condemned to another season in League Division 3 North, from then on, Barry was hooked. Stan took Barry to his inaugural away game in October 1957. This was a League 2 visit to Meadow Lane and a 1-0 win for Notts County. He continued to follow Derby County throughout his life, even when he started working in Nottingham and his manager was a Notts fan. His name was Albert Bramley or ‘Bram’. “We talked about our matches and football generally,” Barry says. “Bram told me a lot about Notts history. He was very proud of the fact that Notts are the oldest football league club and of Tommy Lawton.” This was at a time when Derby were a comfortable League 2 side but Notts were languishing perilously close to the bottom of the 4th division. In the 4th division, teams were not subject to automatic relegation, but those at the bottom had to undergo a re-election process in order to retain their league status. Bram's genuine concern stemmed from the prestigious history of Notts in the league, fearing that they would be penalized as a warning and denied re-election to the 4th division. Happily, Notts recovered enough to escape this ignominy. “There were quite a few Forest fans at work and some were condescending towards Notts. One red fan used to make a point of gloating a bit and asking how ‘the all-stars’ (referring to Notts) had played.” Things were now about to change dramatically for both clubs’ fortunes, thanks to certain persons by the name of Brian Clough and Jimmy Sirrel. In the late sixties, both Derby and Notts would go on to more enjoyable seasons. Barry never lost his love for Derby County. He met his wife Grannypie at work; her dad was a Notts fan, and they would exchange friendly banter and stories. Barry continued to follow Derby County throughout the years, even when he got married in 1981 and bought a house with Grannypie in 1991. However, due to work and then looking after Grannypie, he hasn’t been able to attend as many games over the last couple of decades. One Notts game that stands out in Barry’s memory is a Friday night match against Bury on 22nd February 2013. “It was a very cold night; the first half was boring with no atmosphere; I wished I’d stayed home warm,” Barry recalls. “Bury scored; and at half-time Notts were losing 1-0. The second half was completely different; Notts woke up and scored; the atmosphere picked up; by the end of the game Notts had made it 4-1 and Meadow Lane was rocking. It reminded me of times at Derby’s old Baseball Ground.” “Over the years I’ve seen The Rams crowned as champions of England twice and enjoyed some great European encounters such as Rams’ 4-0 victory against Real Madrid and being 3-0 up in 20 minutes against Benfica with Eusebio playing for them. I’ve been to that place across the Trent River where we lost 5-2 but thanks to Rams TV I’ve also seen Derby thrash that same unmentionable team 5-0. I remember The Rams surviving a winding-up order in the 1980s when they were hours away from extinction and going into administration more recently while again avoiding obliteration. I’ve shared both ups and downs with Notts too, especially during their last few seasons when they came close to destruction and the heart-stopping playoff games and eventual promotion. And don’t forget Munto. Have two teams ever given their fans so much anxiety?” Despite being a lifelong fan of Derby County, Barry has always kept an eye on Notts due to family and work connections. “Obviously I don’t like losing to any team but at least the blow was softened if it’s Notts,” he says. “No animosity at all.” Barry Buckley’s love for Derby County Football Club has spanned decades and shows no signs of fading. As Super Ram on the Pride of Nottingham site, he continues to share his passion for the Rams with fellow fans. 6. I enjoyed watching Reading when they were in the Premier League. I like when teams outside the typical promoted teams go up and do well. Similar to Wigan and Portsmouth. The issue is, I don't think clubs should gamble on situations if the risk is too great. A lot of owners don't think with the right mentality, I know football is a harsh business to be in and things can flip at a moment's notice. However, by taking their time to build gradually and solidify their position as a strong team at any given level, the associated risk would decrease significantly, as opposed to rushing into it unprepared. A lot of clubs like Reading overspend to get to the Premier League, then to remain it's repeated. Once they get relegated, the parachute payments do not cover the wages. I think being more prepared in the long term is something that clubs should do, maybe the FA needs to implement some sort of advisory role where they try to ensure that clubs aren't risking the clubs future by chancing their ambitions. I hate seeing clubs struggle, but much of it could've been avoided if better care had been taken.
  7. I am very keen to go, but it's £88 and I can't afford it without Cal's family contributing to it like they did with Wembley. I have had friends offer me lifts, which would reduce the cost by sharing petrol costs, but I don't know if this is going to work out. With Sutton being in London, it's putting people off from driving down due to the emission charges.
  8. Very strange considering they've been charged by the EFL, yet have been allowed to sign a player for a fee and seen it approved. Andy Dallas has made a brilliant move on paper, as he rises to new heights and joins a club that can surely offer him numerous opportunities to score goals. I just feel if they've been caught funneling money from outside their board, who hasn't been approved. It would be more equitable to implement sanctions and penalties preemptively, rather than waiting for them to accumulate strength. This way, teams that have already faced penalties for infractions, such as Derby, are not unfairly disadvantaged.
  9. Hello, @George L. Welcome to the Pride of Nottingham! I hope you enjoy being a part of our Notts County community. It's great to have you here; it's nice to have another grandfather and grandson duo. The first truly Notts that I am aware of.
  10. Welcome to the Pride of Nottingham, @Steveyward. I hope you enjoy being a part of our Notts County community.
  11. I remember watching Channel5, when I would have been like 14 or 15. On it, was one of those top 50 programmes, "Top 50 moments that shocked the Footballing World". I don't know if @super_ram remembers this. To my surprise they didn't mention Tommy Lawton signing for Notts, but they did mention Trevor Francis signing for Nottingham Forest for £1m. I think the signing really did shock the world. Rest in peace, Trevor Francis.
  12. Well, Luke Williams is keeping us all guessing in regard to the centre back position. Jesse Debrah is being linked by credible news outlets as being linked with the likes of Carlisle United, among others. He's young enough to fit what we might be seeking, I know some of the fans who want him to sign and, usually these players aren't even on our radar. He would make excellent signings, especially on paper, which makes it so tempting for sites to speculate on them signing. I just feel that it's more likely that Nathan Claxton or the other trialist will sign. As for reading The72, I used to enjoy it, but it quickly became meh.
  13. I thoroughly enjoyed watching the fantastic highlights created by the enthusiastic Boston United fans. They were focused on protecting their goalkeeper by simply kicking the ball away. Yet, not hopelessly, it seemed quite defensive minded just to break up our play.
  14. Welcome to the Pride of Nottingham, I hope you enjoy being a part of our Notts County community.
  15. C'mon folks, if you are not a season ticket holder, get yourself down to Meadow Lane for these two games. I still need to collect my season ticket!
  16. I felt disappointed with how terrible Alfreton Town did, but there were a few of our players that didn't stand out as being much better. I am highly confident that one of them will keep impressing me, especially considering the strong impact they made during this pre-season. I can clearly see the numerous advantages they would bring if they maintain a consistent performance. Alfreton have a good-sized pitch, which gives us plenty of width and space to use. Provided our attacking players do their jobs, which I am sure they will. It will create Alfreton problems as to who to mark heavily, I can't see them parking the bus but even if they do. The width of the pitch should see us easily able to exploit them.
  17. Joe Palmer seems to be a wise choice, as his extensive experience and profound knowledge of football make him an excellent candidate. Hopefully, he will seamlessly integrate and focus on driving Notts towards even greater success in business. There is no need for him to hurry in addressing anything. The ticket office manager will take care of organizing the staff in that department. It is reassuring to see the club once again being led by a competent CEO. He does have some big shoes to fill, but I fully expect Joe to be a people's person.
  18. No, someone more experienced than Brad.
  19. @cheeky~k8 makes lovely cakes, easily adaptable to Victoria sponges or general birthday cakes. I wished my bits had jam in it, but it was nice. I'm not the biggest fan of icing but it was lovely.
  20. I should share a video I saw earlier with Luke Williams. It was about a South American team and how they inspired Malmo. An extremely well-coordinated game that strategically exploits teams with a strong defensive approach. If good teams do it well, it allows for many chances without the loss of the ball. I can easily see English clubs adapting this into their game, someone like Williams' should be able to do it well.
  21. I wanted a bit of Jam in it, but the cake was lovely. It was nice to have @super_ram over, I know Ellie has wanted to come over sooner. I gave Ava a big hug from @GrannyPie, to which Ava then hugged the photo frame we have and kissed it. She was delighted that Super Ram came over, we had some food together.
  22. Reading the leaflet, it seems like a message worth promoting but the way in which it was seems to be totally uncalled-for. That's the issue with the world right now: people go to extremes to get a message heard. It's very annoying TBH, I watched a YouTube video about this, and it was never mentioned that it was two cars.
  23. The close season felt weird, because there was still news and things were late due to the playoffs, so the release list etc - it kept things active here. I mostly used the time to crack back on with PON. Pre-season has been enjoyable. I had hoped to make the Boston friendly, but I didn't feel great. I still hope to make the Shrewsbury friendly, then it is straight onto the season. To be honest, it seemed slow at first and then picked up quite quickly, it only feels like yesterday I had played to go to Nuneaton.
  24. @Fan of Big Tone, totally unrelated to the game and how good it was of course. It's just a coincidence that they drew. I am kidding, it's been a sleepy afternoon here.
  25. Shaun Brisley is one that comes to mind, I think that's a recent signing for them, but I do have another CB in mind which I seem to be confusing with Brisley in my mind. There was a player who joined another team after leaving us, not long after Brisley played for Notts.
