  1. He's a character in his interviews. Hope he does well tbf, it's a different venture for him but I genuinely don't think the man will ever retire.????
  2. Since I missed yesterday, I'll post a double for today. Both goals Notts related. Firstly, 3 years ago, Elisha Sam scored this worldie against Oxford City in the FA Trophy Quarter Final. Secondly, sticking with the FA Trophy, 4 years ago Michael Doyle scored this sensational stoppage time winner. The commentary speaks for itself.
  3. @Fozzy Wasn't that Sunderland? Because I remember seeing a few posts of him posting about Sunderland and then Sunderland fans tweeting about him deleting the comments and being confident they were going to sign him. Maybe it was both clubs but I do agree that someone has obviously come in for him but Notts declined the offer. There was a speculative rumour floating around that Notts had rejected a £3m offer from an unnamed Championship club early in January. So it could be either of those I guess. There was certainly a lot of interest. Bolton, Birmingham, Middlesbrough, Sunderland amongst the main names.
  4. I listened to the game on the radio and from what I can gather, it didn't sound like the greatest game of football but Notts can feel very hard done to not to have got at least a point from the game. The referee didn't seem to have a good game either. Stal was gesturing for a card on one of the Mansfield players for a cynical foul, which is a bookable offence anyway, but also because it was apparently the 3rd time he had committed a foul. There was also claims for a penalty for a potential foul on Langstaff. 13 shots and just the 1 on target. That's a poor stat to have in a game. It sounded like we were getting there but no urgency to properly attack or make any sort of great chance to find an equaliser. The best of the bunch that I heard of on the radio was Jodi Jones hitting it over after capitalising on a mistake by a Mansfield player. Baldwin sounded like he had a very good game at the back. Stone also sounded like he did well between the sticks and made some good saves. It's not great losing to a rival like Mansfield but it's not as bad as the 4-1 defeat we suffered at Meadow Lane earlier on in the season I suppose.
  5. @DangerousSausage Depends on whether Leonardo Di Caprio or Billy Zane support a Football team to tag along too ???? @Robbie That would make for some very interesting conversations over dinner and a few drinks. Great Choices!
  6. @DangerousSausage Totally agree, to a point. Shearer in 1996 hadn't scored for something like 2 years for England but Terry Venables stuck by him and told him that he'll still continue selecting him despite a lack of goals on the International stage. Shearer did start scoring granted but same could have been for Andy Cole given more of a chance. It's all maybes, maybe he would have scored more or maybe not had he been selected more. But, again to your point, the emergence of Owen definitely put a halt to Cole getting in.
  7. @Fozzy Happy Gilmore is great film. Adam Sandler films are brilliantly funny. Chubbs was a great character. @Fan of Big Tone Really? I'm surprised, not even a single Rocky film or Predator?
  8. In 2013, Jack Wilshere scored this fantastic team goal with a delightful finish for Arsenal against Norwich. This is one of my all time favourite Premier League goals.
  9. The Rocky film franchise is my all time favourite. So it's sad news to hear about the passing of Carl Weathers who played the part of Apollo Creed. Rest in Peace ????
  10. FFP was enough to worry teams it seems. I'm guessing that given the Everton points deduction, Forest and Everton facing punishment as well as Man City being taken to a hearing was enough to make clubs think twice before splashing the cash.
  11. @Piethagoram It's possible but I have to admit I'm surprised that bids didn't come flying in for Macca or whether the price wanted by Notts was too much for some to even try.
  12. You've won a prize of a weekend getaway but you have to choose 3 people involved in football, past or present, to join you. Which 3 are you choosing? I'd go with Neil Warnock, Peter Crouch and Gazza. All 3 are characters in their own way. It might be a little chaotic at times but it'll be an absolute laugh.
  13. @Ohh Tommy Johnson Agreed. We know he has the speed but I think he also has the ability to do so as well. Maybe we'll see him do it more often under new management.
  14. 100%. I'd have chosen Fowler over Cole tbf. Fowler was an unbelievable striker, definitely deserved to feature more for England. That was the main issue in some strikers who perhaps should or could have appeared more didn't have as many caps. Sheringham and Shearer, especially in Euro 96, was a very good partnership and Shearer often acknowledges Teddy in his podcasts as his favourite striker partner because of how well they linked up and worked as one. @Robbie there were so many to choose from it was just the case of who do you leave out to make room for the others worthy of a shot?
  15. That was a great piece to read. Makes you applaud the man even more. Never knew the stories about him being stabbed or being involved in a car crash that left him in a very bad way. Certainly could have been worse but he never gave up on achieving something in football despite having his playing days done with. He was certainly motivated and gave everything, football and outside of football, his all.
  16. They do say you can't win a football game without scoring a goal and to win you have to outscore the opposition. A few managers, especially during the 80's and 90's lived by this but there's also the opposite saying that if you can stop your opponents scoring, you can't lose. So there has to be a fine balance. Notts are capable of scoring goals as it has been shown this season and last but more needs to be done to sure up the defence. We can't keep going into games expecting to outscore the opposition in 6, 7 or 8 goal thrillers.
  17. I've seen this account on Twitter a lot recently, especially yesterday, but I wouldn't read too much into it. Doesn't seem to be very reliable with information but who knows maybe we were in for him. Considering he signed for Motherwell on loan before this, I don't know why they would have accepted a bid for him.
  18. Andy Cole definitely had a lot to offer. They called him Cole the goal for a reason. Prolific at both Newcastle and Manchester United during the 90's. However, around that time, England had a whole host of strikers to choose from. The likes of Shearer, Sheringham, Les Ferdinand, Ian Wright, Michael Owen, Robbie Fowler. It was always going to be a tough ask to get in to that England squad as a striker. I think he perhaps could of or should have been given more of an opportunity maybe a bit of rotation every now and again. Had he been around a bit later, in a different generation, he would have been given more caps.
  19. Sticking with the underrated goal theme, in 2004 Patrik Berger scored this against Charlton. Brilliant technique and volley.
  20. Look forward to seeing how he fares at Notts and in League Two. Hoping he proves to be a great signing.
  21. @super_ram I always wondered why he never hit the ground running as much as he could or should of at Derby. He's certainly capable of bagging goals but it never worked out for him at Derby but if he wasn't being used well by Lampard, it's understandable as to why he never did as well as he could have.
  22. There's no denying that Italy have been one of the best, if not the best, at producing some of the greatest defenders to have ever graced the game. There was a billboard years ago that had a picture of Paolo Maldini on it with the slogan "Italy's Goalkeeper. Easiest job in the world" I came across this on Twitter (I still refuse to call it X) You could easily have a back 3 of defenders but you'd have to leave out one or two defenders that should be in there. So for me I'd have to go with a back 4 consisting of; Cannavaro (RB) Nesta & Baresi (CB) Maldini (LB)
  23. Good striker tbf. I agree with that tweet, he will get goals in League 2. He definitely is a player capable of playing at a higher level.
  24. Rewind to 2010, Johan Elmander scored this delightful goal for Bolton against Wolves. Great balance, footwork and finish. It doesn't get talked about as much as it should. I'll be posting a different goal each day. Feel free to add your own goal of the day. There's bound to be some absolutely beauties to see.
  25. Yeah I read about this when they first announced reformatting the UCL. They basically want teams that have history and reputation to be in the competition more. There was a lot of fans angry and annoyed at this proposition. Quite rightly too. Take Chelsea for example, since Abramovich came in in 2003, they've been a regular feature in the Champions League and have won it twice. Even if they position how they are currently, they could still earn a place due to history. I think that idea may have been squashed but essentially this is exactly what UEFA opposed about the Super League so essentially if they were to go that route and stick with the idea, they're going to be hypocrites. Personally, I think the Champions League should be what it states CHAMPIONS. They have a UEFA Coefficient Standings so why not utilise it? The champions of the top 10 nations, based on the coefficient league, play out a league or even a straight knockout format rather than having 4 or 5 different clubs being able to enter it. Also, if you get eliminated from the UCL, teams should be out of Europe all together. None of this nonsense about relegated to the Europa League than relegated to Europa Conference League. Once you're out of your European competition you have "earned" the right to play in, that's it over done. All these things put in place by UEFA, the FA etc. they make it sound beneficial to the game for everyone but read between the lines, it only increases the dominance of the already elite and keeps them there for a long while, as you've pointed out.
