  1. Trying not to be too cynical but if they (being the management team) sat up late all week planning to just hoof the ball into the stratosphere bypassing the midfield then January will have a familiar feel to the last few years. The team talk must have been all of 5 seconds long, right lads just ******* hoof it and see what happens. When defending try marking space...
  2. Its going to be a long season if thats how we intend to approach games. By the sound of it our left back should have been left back in Nottingham. A poor poor first game with yet again a poor plan A and absolutely no other plan.
  3. The only change I'd make to that is Hawkridge for Hewitt
  4. He simply isn't good enough
  5. Pierce Bird is the stand out signing for me, all he lacks is experience which he'll get when he plays, lets hope he gets the chance to make that most human of gestures (a mistake) without being hounded into never being seen again. I know of at least one club a lot higher up that were taking a serious look at him.
  6. I'm looking forward to watching the game, I don't think there's any real issue between the clubs, infact aside from a few d1ckheads on both sides the game could be non segregated, the only potential issue is that all of Forests d1ckheads seem to all come to the games and spoil it for the rest of us, likewise all of our d1ckheads come out the woodwork for the Mansfield games
  7. Yeah one of the best prospects of our recent times, he went to Watford, can't remember his name at the min, think he was 14 years old, first name might have been Tom?? But can remember him going to Watford, three lads went to Derby , i think at least one went to Forest and a couple went to Mansfield.
  8. The most successful of all youth players released by us would have to be Wes Morgan, unless someone knows of another player? Most of the head turning is done by the parents who just want to say my lad plays for .... most of them know the best option would be a smaller club but its about ego's now more than ever.
  9. If they're not ready they're not ready, someone has to foot the bills and unfortunately no club can realistically afford to keep players just in case they realise they're potential. Also a lot of very good young players peak at a certain age and never regain that level irrelevant of how many opportunities they are given, the best example of this is Spencer Weir-Daley, when he was 15 he was by far and away the most talented player in his age group country wide, he got several years as a pro out of his peak at 15 yet never even got close to that standard ever again. Pierce Bird is a good example of letting them go and keeping track of how they do, he wasn't ready first time round yet he went away and developed his game at a level more suited to him at that stage and now he has returned, hopefully signing this week. Of all the recent youth players you have mentioned the only one good enough at point of release / offer to train is Montel Gibson, the others irrelevant of what nation they represent just weren't / aren't good enough.
  10. Not a bad signing, quite a clear indication that we are going to be playing fast wide football. Not a lot of youth in the team though, whilst the signings have been good so fat we need an injection of vibrancy that young players bring with them
  11. Class act, easily still good enougj for League 1 in my opinion. All very good players shine no matter their team mates and his 14 goals in each of the last two seasons, when lets be honest we have had two crap sides are testamant to that
  12. Rob Milsom should have taken the penalty, great left foot. Hopefully he'll get the next one
  13. Colin Slater just saif that Liam Noble only makes one change to his Notts team tonight, the blokes quality
  14. We have got to play Stanley & Osbourne. The reason we aren't creating any chances is that KN has set us up so defensively he has had to sacrifice any creativity, Stan provided more of this in the 5 mins he was on the pitch than we did for the previous 85
  15. There has been a big change in how some clubs assess whether any potential player could possibly make the grade, our own chairman recently commented on this very subject on his Twitter account. Even a club the size of Manchester United have taken this new style approach which critiques a player's mainly physical attributes and that is the grading for whether or not a player is good enough. They all forget the one golden question that you cannot coach into anyone. Can he play? You can coach explosiveness into a player, hire a sprint coach and do specific muscle training, same as strength etc etc but you cannot coach ability onto a player. As a Football Association and football in general we seem to always be trying to recreate another country's system but with a fatal flaw, being smart about it. Ask yourself how many of the Spanish, Dutch, Brazillian or Argentinian national sides would meet the frankly ridiculous criteria this country is adopting? What do you think the first question Barca ask? Is he 6ft plus and an athlete? No. Can he play? Yes. The first question the Arsenal academy ask is can he play? Our own Jimmy Sirrel asked this as a quality not being able to run around a lot. Next time you watch kids playing whether in the street or on a pitch, just ask yourself one question. Can he play? 16. Should have brought Aborah in earlier, hopefully Osbourne & Gibson get a chance next week
  17. Would love to see Aborah play with the option of an outball to Osbourne & Gibson
  18. To usher in the Alan Hardy era I thought I'd start a new piece that will be a fortnightly ramble about all things football and also some things slightly away from football with the focus being on what effect this has or could have on Notts County. This week I will be starting with the January transfer window. The two transfer window periods only favour the teams paying the biggest wages - they can attract the better players at the start of the season, leaving very little, low-lying fruit for the smaller clubs. This system is best suited to the Premier League and like many other things should be left there but that's a rant for another ramble. Under the old system the smaller clubs could pick up a better player during October and November than would be allowed at the start of the season due to players falling out of favour as the season wears on and wanting to play - this is another facet to this system, the player power this has inadvertently granted them (anyway back to where I was before this ends up at Donald Trump...). Now clubs have to wait and the void just gets bigger - look at Mansfield and Newport, between them they have brought in nearly a whole new team. Then you have Notts County, who, because of this transfer embargo, are having to stick with what we have and are relying on good old man management to stir the players into giving a toss, something that happened against Mansfield thankfully. I wait with baited breath to see if it can happen again and again and again like we need it to. If that fails, given the emergency loan window has been scrapped (thanks FIFA, sticking up for the little clubs once again I see), we have to rely on our own youth players who we can bring through without the hassle of having to worry about embargoes. One of which has come through in Sam Osborne, he should be starting every game now, his energy and directness causes defences problems. Another youth team player I would like to see is Montel Gibson, give him a chance to start a game and he will score. If you are planning on going to watch our youth team at any point, if he is playing watch his movement and the positions he takes up, we are desperately missing a player of his abilities up top, it is of no chance of luck that he finds himself in the right place at he right time. If our future is in the youth, let them play. Share your thoughts about this feature on Pride of Nottingham by signing up to the website, visiting the forum and joining the conversation.
  19. I thought he'd watched the previous games? P***ed off now with that team
  20. With that team selected we're gonna get hammeref 5-0 at least
  21. I reckon the young lad will be Jack McMillan in midfield Whoever it is it will be nice to see another academy player make it into the first team
  22. Can you honestly see Alex Rodman being dropped?
  23. The ref was right to call the game off, i would have liked it to be 3 mins previous as you could see how much the ball was holding up yet i still had three bellends sat behind me in the kop calling for the game to be played as its "only a bit of water". Hopefully the replay will be on a Saturday that i'm not working
  24. Collins & Oliver have for to start every game now!! COYP
