Josh Vela is another former player who’s turned out for both clubs. He’s one more name to add to the growing list of MAGnets.

Who's your Man of the Match v Tranmere?
Well done to Matt Palmer. It’s great to see fans voting for different players, and I think the winner was spot on. He’s earned it.

Who's your Man of the Match v Tranmere?
It’s great to have choices again. More than three players caught my eye, but two really stood out and deserved to be in the mix for this. I went with Matt Palmer in the end. He’s been excellent lately, and it’s good to see him keep improving and pushing on with his game.

Martin Paterson Hails Back Line and Second-Half Response at Prenton Park
The thing that impressed me most was how the players actually listened to Martin Paterson at half time and came out with purpose. Too often so far this season we’ve seen decent spells without taking control, but at Tranmere we grabbed the game straight after the break. Matthew Dennis is sharp in those areas and Kellan Gordon’s goal showed real composure. The final 15 minutes were about character, defending wave after wave of long balls and set pieces. That’s exactly the kind of away day steel we’ve been lacking. No one is saying it was perfect, but this felt like the first time we looked like a team capable of handling the physical side as well as playing good football.

Ollie Norburn urges calm focus as Notts County prepare for tough Tranmere Rovers test
It’s good to hear Ollie Norburn speak. He made a fair point about how captains lead in different ways, but I still feel Notts could do with someone who’s more vocal on the pitch. Matt Palmer has been excellent again this season. He’s consistent and reliable, but I think it might be time to pass the armband to someone else next year. A fresh voice could help drive the team forward. Ollie’s return to football has been impressive. He carries himself like a proper professional and looks like he’s only going to improve with each game. I hope he can take control of the midfield and help lead the team with real fight and hunger. That kind of attitude could make a big difference in tight matches.

RIP Steve Thompson
Such a sad thing to hear. Steve Thompson was a proper football man, straight-talking and honest in how he shared his views. He was a very good player too. My thoughts go out to his family and friends. Rest in peace, Steve Thompson.

No More Mixed Messages
I believe the media has a duty to dig into the truth, and Notts should never stand in the way of open conversations between the head coach and players, especially when there are concerns like Alassana Jatta possibly having his head turned. I don’t blame the club for this. To me, it’s clearly his agent pulling the strings. But if this back injury isn’t genuine, it reflects badly on both Jatta and the club. Martin Paterson’s response hasn’t helped either, it’s only added fuel to the fire. This was a chance for the club to quietly shut the door on the rumours, but instead they’ve left it wide open. I rate Jatta highly, but I only want players here who are fully committed.

Match Discussion: League Two - Tranmere Rovers (A)
Tranmere away is one of those fixtures where you feel hopeful at first, but the closer you get to kick-off, the nerves start creeping in. Prenton Park is a proper old-school ground, and in some ways it reminds me of Meadow Lane. It’s a good place to take in the atmosphere, and I hope it’s not too tense. Watching 90 minutes of flat football can make things edgy on the pitch. If Notts can start well and get the fans behind them early, it could be a cracking game. I’ll leave the team selection to Paterson, but I do think keeping the line-up settled would help us build some consistency and improve performances. As for the score, I dread to guess. If Tranmere get the better of us, it’ll be a tough one to take. I wouldn’t set up for a draw, but I’d gladly take a point if we put in a proper shift.

Progress Report
Very good comments. I mostly agree with what @liampie and @Chris have said. We didn’t realise just how important Jason Turner was to Notts until he sadly passed away. It became clear then how much he did for the club. People have said it was like working with three people, because he was so involved and made sure everything was done properly. I’ve never met Joe Palmer, so it’s hard to compare fairly, but the lack of updates from him doesn’t help. The club used to say it wanted to be open, but Palmer seems quite closed off. Maybe he’s more focused on the business side. The idea of the club having a clear goal and everyone working towards it seemed to fade once we got promoted. @Robbie made a good point about not tearing apart a promotion-winning squad. Notts does have a habit of doing that, but this time the squad did start off well. There were a few poor signings, but most of them did improve the team. Does it feel like Notts are going for promotion from League Two in the right way? It doesn’t seem the same as when we went up from the National League. Most of what the Reedtz brothers are doing off the pitch is spot on. The improvements are brilliant. But when it comes to this season, it feels like we’re not as serious about promotion. The signings are okay, but it does feel like they’re cutting corners now, when before they had folders full of research.

Notts County squad 'needs reinforcements' - Paterson
The board surely can’t believe the job’s done, especially if Jatta’s heading out. It would be a disaster not to bring someone in to replace him properly. I agree with the calls for another striker, and I’d add a keeper to that list too. It’s hard to see why Kelle Roos keeps getting minutes when others are missing out. The focus seems to have been on midfielders, but it’s strange not to strengthen the areas where we’re clearly struggling. It doesn’t quite add up. If nothing else, we need a striker. But with the way things are at the back, a centre half might be even more urgent.

Scouting dossier : Have Charlton Athletic been looking at my recommendations
I wouldn’t let it put you off just because only a few people replied. These things can take time, and sometimes folk need a bit of encouragement. I’m always up for hearing about new players. Please think about giving it another go, you can always follow up later with how your picks move between clubs. You never know, it might spark more interest.

Scouting Dossier : England U21 v Slovenia
Valued at around £400,000, or so it’s said, you’d think there might be better bargains out there for that kind of money. I’m fairly sure the fee for Alex Bass is still sitting in the pot. https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/martin-turk/profil/spieler/700643

Allasana Jatta Injured.
The rejected £750,000 bid from Plymouth Argyle might be where all this started. Even if Notts only put 30% of that back into the squad, it could still make a real difference. It might help strengthen the areas we’ve struggled with early on. Alassana Jatta’s been a solid player, and I’ve got no hard feelings towards him. If he does go, I’d rather it be with respect and a proper send-off. He’s earned that much. It’s a shame, though, if he’s refusing to play just because there’s talk of a move. That’s not the way to go about it, and it doesn’t help anyone.

Gordon Bennetts on the touchline: what could possibly go wrong?
@Robbie, It’s only a bit of fun, but Kellan Gordon reminds me of a tap. One minute he’s boiling, the next he’s freezing. You never quite know what you’re going to get. Keanan Bennetts is still a bit of a mystery. The jury might not be out, but if you gave him a shoe box to defend, I’m not sure it would survive the half. That said, they’re both decent squad players. They’ve got their moments, just as they’ve got their off days. You take the rough with the smooth.

Who's your Man of the Match v Bromley?
If Nick Tsaroulla had stayed on, I think he would have been a strong choice for my vote. He was excellent and handled a tall Bromley side really well. I’ve voted for Matthew Dennis because I believe he deserves it. He made a big impact and stood out across the match. If Nick had played longer, I think I would have weighed up both performances more closely. It would have been a tough call between the two.

Matthew Dennis Strikes Twice but Bromley Deny Notts County Victory
I felt Bromley were always working their way back into the game. Taking off Nick Tsaroulla and Barry Cotter didn’t help, but I understand it’s about managing fitness, keeping players sharp, and giving them the right amount of minutes. Personally, I would have kept Tsaroulla on and taken off Cotter and Jodi. Both need a bit of protection, Cotter because of the physical battles he faces, and Jodi because he’s not quite ready to play a full 90 minutes yet. Even though I agree the changes didn’t help us, Bromley were starting to find space and cause problems. They got in behind our wing backs and put dangerous balls across the box. Notts struggled with the high balls and looked shaky at the back. I think Bromley knew which players were likely to make mistakes, and they saw Kelle Roos as someone they could beat. It’s a shame their equaliser came from such a lucky deflection.

Allasana Jatta Injured.
The BBC do know how to stir up a mystery, without really chasing proper answers. You can't rely on the media in situations like this, and you're left to decide for yourself what sounds believable. The press want clicks, the club want to avoid awkward questions, and it's the fans who are stuck not knowing what's true. It would be better for everyone if the truth was just shared. If it's a back spasm, the timing feels odd. It’s hard not to be suspicious when something like this pops up right before a big game. If the club knows there’s some unhappiness behind the scenes, and they’re still choosing to go with just one striker while this plays out, it doesn’t add up. It raises more questions than it answers. Maybe it’s all part of a plan. Say he’s injured, then he suddenly recovers and Bromley don’t see it coming. Could be a bit of mind games, couldn’t it? This sort of thing is perfect for conspiracy theories. There’s just enough mystery to keep people guessing, and no one really knows what’s going on.
