  1. I have had limited time watching this season - just 4 game, so I'll base this on those 4 games - Sutton (a), Gillingham (a), FGR (h) Wrexham (h). Player of the Season: Jodi Jones Best Performance: Gillingham Best Team played against: Wrexham Worst Team: Sutton - just thugs Best Away Day: Gillingham - it was my birthday and my partner had my name read out over the tanoy at half time and we took all our children. Great fun! New Coach: Pep or Klopp, but if they are busy or aren't careful with the step up, then I would go with anyone who can keep our identity going whilst introducing some steel in our defence.
  2. My daughter has just passed her test £470 for 5 months insurance and that is on my insurance. The other takes her test next month so I'll be looking at another hike then (they are both students). I was lucky enough to be on the company car scheme and will hopefully be getting a new car by May (when my insurance needs renewing). If I get that sorted then I'll be getting an IC car for them, which will be cheaper for them. I did do some looking into the cost of insuring an EV, and apparently it comes down to the fact that they are basically a 1 tonne Li ion battery, which are perceived to spontaneously burst into flames. I would say that is a far less frequent event than an IC car catching fire, but I have no figures to back that up. It feels like an excuse to hike the premium to me.
  3. I really struggle with this game.. and similar games. My brain just doesn't do connections between words. I've had a couple of goes, but I don't think I'm going to be too successful with this one.
  4. There were some tricky ones in there today. I'm on a bad run of these at the moment, #waffle725 X/5 ???????????????????? ???????? ???????????????????? ???????????? ???????????????? ???? streak: 0 wafflegame.net

  6. Silly question - but is there promotion and relegation from the Elite League? If so is it a drop into the abyss?

  9. @robbie . The trouble with your statement that we 'should move on as citizens of our sovereign, independent Country & work together to make Brexit Successful.' is that nobody knows what successful looks like. To me in means ability to trade with our biggest trade partners friction free, for my children to be able to experience living wherever they wish without restriction and to be able to boast the best food and environmental standards in the world. I am more than happy to work towards this, but at the moment we have culture wars, the Rwanda policy (which, incidentally, requires us to accept Rwandan migrants in exchange for the refugees we send to them). So, if you are happy to get behind my 'successful' I will happily work towards achieving it with you, but I suspect your 'successful' is different from mine, as well as that of many who voted leave.
  10. JoBs approach seems to have been to keep the ship steady and don't change things about. So I would expect to see Robertson in for Gosling, The new goalkeeper for Brooks and maybe Macari for Brindley, but I wouldn't expect many changes and probably quite a flat performance.
  11. Let's hope he isn't a L1 or Championship newcomer this season too!
  12. My plans are 100% not exciting. I am going to try and put a side panel on my bath (having changed the plug and air blower for the spa bit)in the week. All that, keeping an eye on my partner following yesterday's chemo and also getting a couple runs in - a long one on Sunday and maybe a Parkrun tomorrow.
  13. What with my Waffle having 3 stars and now this - I am going to buy a lottery ticket!! Wordle 937 3/6* ???????? ???????????? ????????????????????

  15. @Robbie I agree, we won't agree on this, but it is refreshing to have a considered intelligent debate rather than the rabid slanging matches which are more common on this subject. It's a good discussion. I think that Brexit was the result of austerity. It created a large group of people who felt marginalised and worse off who were looking for someone to blame. The right wing press fed the anti EU sentiment and Farage and Johnson brought the popularism which tipped the balance - along with a fair sprinkling of breaking electoral rules and blatant lies. Still, it is what it is, The trouble with Global Britain is that we have gone from being a captain on one one several battleships in a large fleet afloat on the sea of international relationships, to the Admiral of a fleet of 1 frigate trying to steer between the fleets of China, the US, and the EU. We need to change our behaviours internationally to reflect this if we are to be successful... we are more of a New Zealand than an international power these days. We are not in a position many conditions on trade deals and will have to accept what we are given - increased migration from India for example, hormone injected beef from Australia and chlorine washed chicken from the UK. To trade with other countries you have to comply with the prevailing rules in the market into which you are selling, but if you can't impose your domestic laws on your trading partners then you have to accept theirs - the idea of making your own laws in isolation is a fallacy.. This is what made the single market work and kept costs down and standards high, everyone agreed on the rules of engagement and the block was big enough to impose or at least resist attempts from other countries to change EU law. Unfortunately this was presented as Political Union, but it was simply agreeing ground rules. In my field of work, we were adept at taking an EU directive and then making our own set of regulations which were different to say those in Ireland as they suited the UK economy. We would often bring in additional requirements over and beyond those required by the EU.. That is why we will need to accept lower food standards, environmental standards, removal of working rights and freedom of movement and a lower standard of living. This is actually what we voted for, it was just dressed up as independence. There is no such thing in a globalised world.
  16. I agree we need to move on, but Brexit will never work. What is Brexit for a start - it is a collection of slogans; 'taking back control' (whatever that means), 'sovereignty' (whatever that means), but nothing of substance. It is interpreted as different things to different people, so there is no 'one direction' to pull in order to make things work. There was no plan, there is no plan and until one party has the courage to say 'this is what Brexit means, vote us in on that basis' we will forever flounder in the sea of international politics and economics. It was built on lies and so is destined to fail.
  17. I read those and they are all so easy to disprove - for example a 1% increase in trade with out EU partners was significantly more in £ terms than with the other countries - 1% of £55 billion is greater than 2.8% of £5 billion (or whatever the figure is). Small firms have been disproportionally hit compared to big companies by Brexit - far from not looking after smaller companies the single marker facilitated them, as they did not need to face export barriers to trade in the EU. Now they either need a presence in the EU or struggle under the mountain of paperwork needed to get product abroad. The EU may be a protectionist negotiator but then so are most large countries or blocks - the US, India and China are no different. Is it not better to be inside a large trading block, rather than small and outside? I could go on, but I won't. Brexit has happened, it has failed miserably, but we need to get on an accept we are all poorer for it and get on with it. I mean poorer, not just in terms of economics, but world standing, culturally and happiness as a country - I have never known the country to be so hostile and miserable. I work for a large multinational and am regularly told how fortunate my colleagues feel not living in the UK or the US... both are seen as basket cases. We are closing our UK operations (my department is in the US and I work remotely), but that decision was based partly on it being more difficult to work with Europe and the UK being a small market. Our focus is in Ireland and Germany.
  18. I think they see him as being in contention next season and want him out on loan getting playing experience rather than sitting on the bench, so it could be a win-win all round.
  19. I think he will be on the bench as well this weekend. Our style needs understanding between our players and I don't think they will have this at this stage. I think it's less important for the goalkeeper, but I think it will be a couple of weeks before we see him.
  20. Your disappointing is my roaring success!!
  21. I reckon he will go on the bench and replace Austin / Bostock in the centre in the second half. That will allow JoB to do the coaching role.

  24. @Robbie I think a UK league would fall foul of different FA jurisdictions. I believe that Cardiff, Swansea, Newport and Wrexham have either special dispensation as they were in the set up before the Welsh League was set up, or they were required to resign from the Welsh FA and join the English FA. When I lived in Newport, AFC Newport were required to play in England as they could neither train or play in Wales unless they joined the Welsh leagues. They used to be called the Nomads for that reason. I could see a UK cup competition being rather fun though. A league without the big 6 or 7 would be a far more interesting competition.
  25. @Robbie That is an interesting approach... and with the limitless amounts of money could be made to survive. Fans would certainly get behind it (they always do) and FOMO would mean the top clubs would jump. I can see ManUre, Man City, Newcastle, Chelsea, Arsenal and Spurs going. I think Liverpool would have to jump too, or risk becoming irrelevant. That would be enough for the TV companies to jump on board and the funding for the Premiership will dry up. That could cause a massive problem to he remaining PL clubs and on down the pyramid. At that point the only thing that could stop it would be parliamentary intervention or banning of those clubs and players from FIFA competitions - but LIV golf shows that is largely ineffective.
