Weekly chat - Monday 30th June to Sunday 6th July
Afternoon all. I looked for this thread but couldnβt find one, so I thought Iβd get it started. Hopefully the regular posters donβt mind. Iβve got the whole week off work. Today Iβm out in the garden, and on Wednesday I plan to head into Nottingham to see what the city centre has to offer. I need to pick up some new clothes, so thatβll be part of the day out. With pre-season not too far off now, Iβm using the week to get things done thatβll be harder once the football kicks back in. One of those is catching up with mates at Nandoβs. We usually try for Saturdays, but with a free Friday Iβve got the chance to make it happen. Itβs been ages. The weatherβs lovely today. Thereβs a light breeze which keeps things cool. Iβm looking forward to reading what others have been up to.

An interesting read...a fraudster jailed for selling fake Scottish tea
He was just being greedy, with no real plan, only trying to make some fast money. Itβs not surprising he got caught behaving like that. Some people fall for things far too easily. It really proves how important it is to use proper, trusted ways to check if a product is real or not.

Carabao Cup draw, away at Wigan
Wigan are still a big club, and it should be a great match for the fans. It wonβt be easy though, as theyβve still got some strong players. Itβll be a good test for us to see how we match up against a side like that.

Must-See Films in 2025
With a few exceptions, most new films donβt feel entertaining or interesting. A lot of them are generic, almost copies of past movies. One exception is Novocaine. Itβs a little predictable, but itβs fun and easy to follow. There are some genuinely funny moments that donβt feel forced and will make people laugh. These kinds of films are rare now. Itβs almost as bad as what TV puts out.

Pavis, KOP or Family Stand: Where do you sit when attending games?
I sit in the Kop, and itβs a big part of my matchday experience. The walk into the ground, with all the fans queuing at the big gates, really shows how far we have come.

England U21 a joy to watch
I donβt watch any U21 football, but maybe I should start. If players are organised and have some freedom, passing and creating chances should come more naturally. It sounds like Iβm missing out. More fans should watch them, as they are the future first-team players.

The appointment of Dr David Rhodes as Director of Performance.
Having someone with this kind of experience handling performance can really change the game. Keeping the players in shape and ready to go is super important for a successful season, so itβs awesome to see the club putting money into this part of things.

Tobias Solberg : Odds-checker 1/2 to become Notts Head Coach
Iβve been thinking about how League Two clubs bring in foreign coaches, and honestly, itβs a bit complicated! Hereβs my take on it, in simpler terms: First off, these coaches need something called a Governing Body Endorsement (GBE) from The FA, which is pretty much the biggest challenge. The FA wants to see that the coach has tons of experience (like managing in a decent league for several years) and has the top coaching qualification, which is the UEFA Pro Licence. If they donβt meet those requirements, thereβs a panel that can review it, but honestly, I think itβs tough for League Two clubs to get any exceptions. Then, the League Two club itself needs to get a special Sponsor Licence from the UK government before they can hire someone from outside the UK. Once they have that and the coach gets the GBE, the club issues them a "Certificate of Sponsorship," which is basically just a reference number. After that, the coach has to go for an International Sportsperson visa. This means filling out an online application, gathering a bunch of documents (like their passport, the GBE, the CoS, proof of English skills), and paying some pretty steep fees. They also have to provide fingerprints and a photo. Usually, if theyβre applying from outside the UK, it takes about three weeks to get a decision. So, how likely is it for these coaches? If the manager ticks all the boxes for The FAβs strict GBE rules, then Iβd say they have a good shot. But if theyβre banking on that βexceptions panel,β itβs a much tougher road. Basically, it's all about showing theyβre βeliteβ and can genuinely help improve English football, which might be a bit of a stretch for League Two sometimes.

Cedwyn Scott, mental health break at Notts
Being nearer to home will hopefully benefit him, though I do wonder how heβs adjusting to a new squad and the challenge of making new friends in this environment. Depression is tough, so my thoughts are with him, and I truly value what he accomplished during his time at Notts.

Junior Morias recalled.
I donβt think comparing training to actual game time is a fair comparison; itβs like apples and oranges. Some fans believe he had a chance to impress in matches, but the fact is heβs had fewer opportunities than Mai Traore and some of the other signings the club has persisted with. I donβt believe training has anything to do with this, not at all. I think itβs more about his position and possibly his height. Notts seem to believe we donβt need many options up front. With Junior Moriasβs height up against a lot of League Two teams with tall defences, I think thatβs the real issue. Iβm among the fans who hope he gets a chance, as I feel let down by the way Notts have treated him. As for his eligibility, there is no restriction from him playing for Dagenham & Redbridge and Woking in the National League. Players can compete in Non-League football without it causing issues in the English Football League. The two-team rule only applies in League Two and higher, not in Non-League and below. As long as his registration is processed, there will be no restrictions stopping him from playing.

Supporter Patience and Rebuilding
Do you think that if Notts were promoted this season, the club could improve enough to remain in League One? Itβs a much tougher league, with teams that have far more quality. My concern is that most supporters may not be patient enough to see Notts rebuild and take the time needed to strengthen. With the performances weβre seeing now, I wonder if we should focus more on addressing the teamβs form to better support our promotion hopes. I might be in the minority here, but while I hope for promotion, I also realise it would take a lot of work, and Notts might not be ready for it yet. I would prefer for the club to be well-prepared and capable of staying up. The current poor form might even reflect some doubts within the team itself.

Notts Announce the Notts County Supporters Committee.
I think the club should have thought about the relevance before proceeding with this news, making sure fans knew who was who. Not everyone involves themselves with supporter groups or trusts. It's something I have never done; I don't feel the need to be in one. The purpose of supporter clubs is quite dated now, and without prejudice, none of them represent me. I do hope it helps to bridge the trouble caused by former owners, but the club shouldn't just hand anyone importance without earning it. I also don't know who the current SLOs are, and I don't think the fan-elected SLO was ever publicly let go. So what happened there, I do not know. But surely another election should have been conducted?
