Does The Notts Team Need to be More Physical?
There were times this season when the Notts team were subject to lots of physicality from the opposition. Stuart Maynard complained about their opponents strong arm tactics on several occasions. He thought the Notts players were not getting enough protection from officials. There were times when the Notts team were bullied by the opposition. It happened in the playoff semi final & in other games too. Should the powers that be at Notts recruit a number of strong & physical players for Notts to become more of a bully on the pitch rather than the bullied?

Weekly chat Monday 19th to Sunday 25th May
Last of the fine weather today before we get the predicted rain early on Saturday morning. I won't be sorry, I'll welcome it. The garden needs it. Still digesting the sacking of Stuart Maynard & mulling over who may replace him. Notts just need to ensure that they replace Stuart with someone who has loads of league 2 experience & has a successful record too. It's going to be an exciting few weeks but the owners need to get it right.

- Retained list
Just an observation Notts announced their retained list. Did Stuart Maynard have input in that decision before he left Notts? Surely it would have been better to wait until the new Head Coach had been appointed first. Contracts weren't up in most cases until end of June. The decision could have waited a little longer.- Who do you want for our next manager
Notts weren't doing well when Williams up sticks & left. A new Head Coach had to sort out the mess he left. I'm just not convinced that it would be the right choice to bring Luke back. There are lots of alternative Head Coaches that could do a good job for Notts. I'm so grateful for what Luke did by getting Notts back to the EFL, but it's time to move on from the Williams era now.- Waffle word game

First of all I don't think he'd come back, but if he did, if a Championship Club came in for him, would he be off once again? I don't think the Reedtz brothers should take a chance on that happening again.- Weekly chat Monday 19th to Sunday 25th May
Cloudy & overcast most of the day here. Spent some time in the garden weeding & watering the plants. The lawn hasn't grown at all since the last cut a week ago. I decided against watering it as hopefully we will get some rain at the weekend. Pleased that Ben Duckett who plays for Nottinghamshire, scored 140 runs for England against Zimbabwe at Trent Bridge today. England scored 498 runs in one day so the crowd got a lot of entertainment today. Bazball is still alive & kicking.- Possession based football from Notts. Would you change it?
Possession based football is only effective if a team uses the ball effectively. Too many times this season the opposition was very effective with their tactics against us. Too many times Notts came up against sides that employed a combination of high pressing, counter-attacking, and exploiting spaces behind the Notts defensive line especially at Meadow Lane. Notts just found it hard to deal with & there didn't seem to be a plan B or C to counteract it. On the few occasions Notts went direct, & this was few & far between, it was successful. Notts did have some success from dead ball situations such as Corners, but it was never a big part of the Notts game, as the team preferred to create chances from open play. When Notts are playing well & play with slick passing movement it is a joy to watch, but if it is not working or our best players are unavailable there has to be an alternative plan. Having 75% of the play at plough lane & getting outplayed in our final match is not a good look. Sometimes you have to win or try to win by a smash & grab like we did at Carlisle in October.- Possession based football from Notts. Would you change it?
Now that Notts are going to appoint a new Head Coach in the near future, is it time for the owners to give that Head Coach, whoever that person may be, total control over the Notts style of play? In other words, should Notts change their style of play from game to game depending on the opposition & conditions such as state of the pitch & the weather or should Notts continue playing possession based football every match regardless?- Who do you want for our next manager
Someone who has lots of League 2 experience. I would prefer to have a leader with some presence who will bring positivity to the squad & be a strong leader. I hope that he will have the scope to use any style, shape & physicality to win a football match. Too many times the team has been bullied of the park. This needs to change. If the new Head Coach wants to go route one or surrender possession & hit on the break with pace, so be it. Notts also need a strong Club Captain & Vice Captain, & I'm sure the new Head Coach will make appropriate changes after he's settled in.- Maynard sacked
It's the right decision in my opinion. As I have said previously, Stuart did improve the team from last season. He improved the Notts defence & that clearly shows up in the season's stats. But I didn't feel that he could take Notts to the next level, but I do wish him well, & I'm sure it won't be long before he is back in Football in some capacity. This decision clearly shows that the owners have intent in getting promoted as soon as possible. I do hope that they will appoint an experienced league 2 Head Coach who has a good record at this level. I also hope that the new person in charge will be allowed to play different styles of play rather than having to play 100% possession based football all the time. I'm also pleased that the decision has been made quickly so that the new person in charge can get to know the players & have input into the types of new players he wants. - Retained list
