  1. Likewise, I don't find myself overly disappointed, as the team displayed a commendable effort and performed quite admirably. It's essential for us to elevate our performance from the start of matches, striving to exert dominance throughout, although overall, I believe Notts County is progressing positively. I concur with that sentiment. Furthermore, the adjustment to a higher league standard will naturally require time for us to settle and implement a strategy that will hopefully position the club to outperform the majority of weaker teams. On the topic of needing more quality up front, I hold a differing view. I believe that a sturdier and dependable defence, anchored by a robust and towering centre-back, would provide the much-needed solidity at the back that we require.
  2. Tshimanga would excel in League Two; I had thought he would perform well with Peterborough, but similar to managers, some players require more time to flourish. The predicament lies in the fact that football is heavily focused on immediate results, and if Wrexham is offering money, Peterborough may opt to accept the offer and finalize the transfer.
  3. Notts haven't been that poor; we simply need to pose more challenging questions to Morecambe and make them exert greater effort. If we manage to take the lead early in the second half, we might be able to dictate the flow of the game. The momentum seems to be shifting towards Morecambe, as they are becoming more assertive in their attacking efforts. They appear less inclined to play on the counter or take their time; their confidence is growing.
  4. Welcome to the Pride of Nottingham, @MagpieRoy.
  5. The preview for the game is very well-written and comprehensive. Feel free to reach out if you require assistance with any of the content. If not, you've got it, gaffer!
  6. So far, if we were aiming for a point, you would be content, but we haven't quite challenged them sufficiently. I would concur that Meller and McGoldrick are the pivotal players for the two teams. I would say the gaffer's analysis and decisions regarding the game have been accurate, and it does seem likely to conclude in a draw unless someone can step up. I have concerns that they might take the lead and then adopt a defensive stance. A 1-1 scoreline could be a plausible outcome. Come on Notts!
  7. You have to admire Jodi Jones and how he's not overconfident about his ability, but rather focuses more on the team's performance and achieving a win. Personally, I hope he is acknowledged with the goal, even though I don't think he will be. We all know he scored.
  8. The win has to be the objective, I am sure Morecambe will be in the vicinity of the playoffs, but if we are to overcome the disappointment of the opening game against Sutton United, securing a victory is imperative. We must play in a manner that demonstrates we have recovered from the setbacks and are determined not only to make comebacks against teams at home, but also to secure vital points on the road. I am eagerly anticipating the game and its outcome. Whatever transpires, I will accept it and move forward.

  10. For me, there are two things: belief and confidence. I think the first win is always the most difficult, and after Sutton United, we needed this win just to focus on what we do have. We need to understand that in these early stages, anyone can beat anyone, and until form takes hold, things may be a bit hit-and-miss. Yet it is my hope that this will give our squad a boost of confidence and make them believe that we can dig deep to get a more positive outcome. I thought in the second half, Notts played some superb stuff, and the rotation of the players helped to inject life. It was a very pleasing result and a decent performance.
  11. I wish him all the best; it’s a shame, but I think he should make a solid recovery like Tobi did.
  12. It’s excellent to see things are coming together; I need to up my own game, but I will be hands-on. I think the live topics have a lot of potential, and if we can have some fun discussions, I think it will only catch on further.
  13. Richard Brindley in the centre of the CBs is a revolution; he looked extremely comfortable and solid. He offered energy going forward and steady cover, alongside Kyle Cameron and Connell Rawlinson, who I felt were below average today. Brindley played outstandingly, giving strong cover. I thought we were guilty of overplaying it at times. Grimsby is a good side and deserved their leads because, until the second half, they were the better of the two teams. Whatever Luke Williams said at half-time, it got a response. I have to say, I would still prefer Sam Slocombe to start, but Aidan Stone is making good strides. The thing for me is that he never looks likely to save shots, even ones which the opposition blast wide. He’s excellent in distribution and in the air. I’m pleased for John Bostock; he deserved to get on the scoresheet.
  14. I’m not that bothered, it was a big day and these nerves will settle. Luke Williams has the difficult job of getting the best out of them, so I tend to ease off the players because quite early on I felt we should have changed the tactics we were using. The formation just didn’t give us any advantage over Sutton United. While I say this, I am not annoyed or angry with Williams. I do feel he has a portion of the disappointment on his hands though.
  15. It’s good news that Macaulay Langstaff has signed a new deal. I agree that both him and Notts will have put in a release clause, even if it’s not publicly acknowledged. Teams who may be watching to see how he does in League Two might not be tempted to pay a premium for his services, but it puts Notts in a strong hand when it does come to these discussions. I think for now we just have to enjoy seeing him play for us.
  16. I enjoy watching The Magpie Circle from time to time, usually when the guests are worth watching. This is one of those episodes that fans should watch. It’s a very good show and I appreciate Mark Stallard putting his free time into featuring on it.
  17. It sounds like a good move for Curtis Thompson. He seems to like teams that aren’t what you would expect to do well. I never saw him doing so well at Wycombe. I didn’t think they had the team to go the distance they did, but he was firmly part of that journey.
  18. Great pictures, @Fan of Big Tone. I haven’t been there for years now, due to the homeless and student drug users, but I will try to get to see this. Hopefully, the area has been cleaned up since then because it ruined such a nice place.
  19. Hull City 2-2 Sheffield Wednesday Ipswich Town 1-3 Stoke City Leyton Orient 0-2 Portsmouth (Joker) Peterborough United 1-1 Charlton Athletic Harrogate Town 2-0 Forest Green Rovers Swindon Town 1-1 Crewe Alexandra Dagenham & Redbridge 0-2 Southend United York City 0-0 Kidderminster Harriers
  20. How annoying would it be if Notts won convincingly after losing to Sutton? It would be nice to have a good League Cup run, but at the same time, the league is far more important, and doing well would just be frustrating considering how poor the Sutton game was. I do want Notts to do well, but if they went out and played like world-beaters, I would be hacked off.
  21. Omari Patrick looked class; I think he would do well in our squad. It’s a shame we didn’t have Joel Taylor, as his height would have been useful against Patrick and Sowunmi.
  22. The highlights don’t show just how shocking Notts were. Yes, the way we conceded wasn’t pretty, but the whole game was a lot worse than the highlights showed. It’s not something I wish to see again.
  23. There was a chance that Notts could have pulled it back if Aidan Stone hadn’t been sent off, but it might not have made a difference. Notts have played just as badly before and then picked up once things had settled down. I think it was more than just a bad day at the office; Notts just looked woeful.
  24. I don’t see the point in taking the knee or booing. FIFA and the FA have both stated that there is no room for politics in football, yet they continue to allow it to be political. People just want to see football return to what it used to be, without political agendas. I didn’t boo, nor would I, but it needs to be stopped both ways.
  25. The first game of the season is always one of the most important, as getting off to a good start and securing early points can provide a huge boost. Sutton is known to have had issues with their pitch, which is said to be one of the worst to play on. It is unclear if this has changed since they joined the Football League, but Notts County will need to persist regardless. Based on previous encounters, a draw seems like a likely outcome. However, having Macaulay Langstaff and David McGoldrick in the squad could provide some strong attacking options. McGoldrick, in particular, would likely relish the opportunity to score. My prediction for the game is a 2-2 draw, but I hope that Notts County can secure a 0-2 or 1-2 victory.
