Following the announcement of his new contract extension, Jodi Jones has his sights firmly set on promotion as he prepares for the upcoming campaign with Notts County.
The Malta international winger, who was pivotal last season, believes the squad is now in an even stronger position to challenge at the top of League Two.
βI think weβve improved in the areas we needed to,β Jones commented. βWeβve added some quality players, and you can see it in the way weβre playing. Weβre confident, but the key is not getting carried away too soon.β
Jones, a vital creative force for Notts, is keen to develop his game further by adding more goals to his tally. βI love setting up my teammates, but I need to start scoring more myself,β he said. βThatβs something Iβve been working on with the coaches since day one.β
Despite his preference for playing on the right side of the attack, Jones embraced his role on the left wing last season and thrived. However, the winger admits that returning to his natural position could unlock another level of performance. βThe right is where Iβve always felt more comfortable,β he explained. βI can go inside, go outside, and get more shots away. But Iβll play wherever the team needs me.β
The contract negotiations took some time, but Jones was never distracted from his main goal of giving his best for the club. βThings sometimes take a while, but I just focused on my football,β he said. βIβve got big ambitions, and I want to help this team push for promotion.β
Jones also spoke about the importance of consistency in the league, recognising that itβs not about how well the team starts, but how they finish. βItβs about being consistent,β he remarked. βWeβve seen teams finish strong and go up, so our focus is on maintaining that form throughout the season.β
With his future secured and his focus on goals and promotion, Jones is ready to take on the challenges ahead. βNotts County isnβt a League Two club,β he declared. βWeβve got big ambitions, and I want to be part of that journey.β
