Notts County earns support from Hollywood star Ryan Reynolds, who aims to show support in promotion bid

PON_News

Wrexham’s co-owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney will be travelling to Wembley to support their National League rivals Notts County in the play-off final, according to the club’s captain.

Last month, the two teams played a crucial match where Wrexham, funded by Hollywood, won 3-2. Former Premier League goalkeeper Ben Foster saved a penalty in injury time. Wrexham has since secured promotion and won the league title.

While Wrexham players have been celebrating their victory in Las Vegas, County is preparing to face Chesterfield in the final. They hope to return to the football league after being relegated in the 2018/2019 season.

Reynolds and McElhenney have praised Notts County, who finished the season with what would have been a record 107 points. Wrexham was four points ahead with 111.

Wrexham’s captain Ben Tozer revealed on TalkSport that the co-owners will fly back to the UK from the United States to support Notts County.

He said: "I know a few of lads who play for both teams, actually. I might be going to the game on Saturday. Fortunately or unfortunately we missed having to play those games (National League semi-finals) they sounded pretty epic.

"Rob who was out there with us, he took the time to stay up to watch the games. In fact, I believe him and Ryan are flying over to watch the game on Saturday. That’s something they want to honour. We are genuinely all rooting for Notts County because of the way they pushed us this season, and we think they’re the ones who deserve it."

Reynolds and McElhenney have expressed their support for Notts County quite openly. After winning promotion, Reynolds stated: "We are rooting for Notts County. We want to see them go up to League Two and face them next year. They're incredible.

"I have such enormous respect for everything they've built and everything that they've done, and it's just insane for me that only one goes up automatically.

"It's something Rob and I feel quite strongly about."

@super_ram It looks like Ryan will have to share Notts with Rob after all! Attending the game would be a remarkable gesture on their part, signifying their unswerving commitment to football and complete indifference towards any rivalry, as they relish the experience of owning Wrexham and simply savour the game. It will be interesting to see 'Welcome to Wrexham' if it features Notts in the playoff final.

If Ryan Reynolds were to attend Wembley to wish Notts County all the best, it would certainly be a kind gesture of support. Despite owning Wrexham, it would demonstrate that he cares about the team and its fans and wants to see them succeed.

This kind of gesture can bring fans together and promote positivity in the football community. It’s important to remember that we’re all in this together and should support each other, even if we’re rooting for different teams.

It's not often that you see a club owner actively cheering on a team they've been competing against for promotion. This kind of sportsmanship is rare and should be celebrated. It reflects well on the National League, Wrexham, Ryan Reynolds, and Notts County.

I’ve noticed that this has sparked some ridiculous remarks on Twitter. I’m not convinced that Ryan Reynolds is making everything about himself. He has done some commendable work since taking over Wrexham and their supporters understand this due to the improvements they’ve seen. In my opinion, some of it is just a combination of nonsense and jealousy. I have respect for Ryan and Rob for demonstrating unity and I hope they continue to do so because football is about coming together.

I’ll accept it as a gesture of kindness and support for our club. By wishing Notts well for promotion, he’s also gotten Wrexham fans to do the same. I’ve read some comments on Twitter that have left me speechless. I think some people enjoy the drama and like to look down on others rather than just being kind.

Ben Tozer may have missed the mark when he said to fly back just for the game. But let’s be real, who wouldn’t want to catch Notts County’s final game and wish them all the best? Sure, there are some Debbie Downers out there, but why is it so hard to believe that we just want to see Notts finish their season on a high note? I mean, I want Notts to go up. The rivalry is one thing, but wishing another team well is just good sportsmanship. Let’s focus on the positive vibes and leave the negativity at the door.

Who cares? I have heard that some Derby County fans are buying tickets to support Chesterfield in the National League Playoff Final since their season is effectively over now. This is because they are both clubs from Derbyshire.

Any Notts fan upset that Ryan Reynolds, the owner of National League side Wrexham who came first in the National League and were automatically promoted, might attend Saturday to support Notts, needs to get a grip on their life. Anyone whining about it needs to find something else to be all up in arms about.

At least he has good intentions in going there. Some of our fans tend to nit pick over trivial matters and a few would even argue with themselves over insignificant things.

In my opinion, if Ryan Reynolds wants to support Notts, that should be the end of it. No one should complain because imagine how the players would feel knowing he wants them to achieve promotion.

In my opinion, it’s fantastic that Ryan Reynolds is coming to wish Notts well at Wembley. It’s usual for the owners of the winning team of the National League to attend. Fans are talking about him doing an interview, but that’s not why he’ll be there. @super_ram, you’re the only Derby fan that matters to us.
