Notts County have completed the signing of former Wales international Richard Duffy on a free transfer.

The 30-year-old centre-half turned down the offer of a new contract at Vale Park and also rejected a switch to non-league Eastleigh.

Duffy said he had a change of heart when the Magpies came in for him as he becomes John Sheridan's fourth summer signing, on a one-year contract.

He told the Nottingham Post: "I agreed to sign with them but when John called I felt it was a chance I couldn't turn down.

"I hadn't signed for Eastleigh but it was a tough one to turn them down at the end having said yes, I'd move to them.

"John rang and that swayed me because it was the chance to play in the Football League at a big club."

"I hope to bring a bit of experience and leadership."

Duffy, who won 13 caps for Wales between 2005 and 2008, comes to Meadow Lane having spent four seasons at Vale, where he made 136 appearances for the club.

looks like the squad is shaping up nicely, never a bad thing to sign an ex international.
