Match Report: Early Goals and Solid Defence See Notts County Defeat Carlisle United 2-0

For me, that has to go down as the best performance of the season, & maybe the best performance under Stuart Maynard 

In the first half Notts dominated. Dan Crowley was superb once again, Scott Roberson came back as if he had never been away, & Alassana Jatta is something else up front for Notts.

When he's in the team he gives Notts something extra. Th goal he scored was very well taken, but it came from a route one long pass from Bass.

The second goal was a typical Notts well worked goal finished off superbly by Robertson.

The second half was Notts having to show grit & determination to keep a spirited Carlisle at bay. A great defensive performance plus two World class saves from Bass, kept Carlisle at bay.

Notts have demonstrated that they can show flair to open up defenses, but they can also show grit & determination & grind a result out if necessary, as they showed in that second half.

Two wins & a draw since the narrow Gillingham defeat is a good way to bounce back & Notts are back to second in the league after nine matches.

We were a bit fortunate in the second half, but Alex Bass was brilliant in goal. Defensively, we looked strong, though there were a few moments when Carlisle managed to get a shot off. I thought they were quite poor up front and at the back, but their midfield wasn't an issue. I'm proud to see us hold on to the lead we worked hard for, and to get a clean sheet as well.

I’m so pleased Notts got the win. From the videos I’ve seen and the commentary, our fans sounded in great spirits. It seems like we’ve got more resilience this season.

The second half wouldn't have been enjoyable to watch, but the opening goal was pure class. That's the difference having Jatta in the team makes, everything seemed to shift once Stuart Maynard made the changes. We've played a lot of minutes recently, but it was a solid win. Alex Bass and all the defenders did well to keep Carlisle at bay.p

What an assist from Alex Bass, his long balls really impressed me, and it’s something we should encourage from time to time. I thought Notts worked very well in the first half to secure the 2-0 lead, with solid build-up play for the second goal. Kellen Gordon did well in my eyes; yes, he played it back at times, but he always looked for the right decision. It was great to see Jatta back in the team, his goal was route one football at its best. Our second goal showed a different style of attacking threat, but the second half was definitely nerve-wracking. I’m pleased for the players to get a good win, especially at such a tough ground.

I don’t feel like we’ll concede easily with this squad. Stuart Maynard has the players giving their best. While some goals are a bit soft, we must remember we’re still a League Two team. Things will go against us sometimes, but with a keeper like Alex Bass, teams like Carlisle, who had a strong second half, show the fighting spirit of Notts County. It was a fantastic result away from home, with the job done in the first half. We can’t underestimate the importance of each player working hard to stop Carlisle from coming back into it.

it was a very good win for us against a team that improved as the game progressed, without those early goals it could have easily finished either way and the clean sheet is a big thing for alex bass. you can see what they mean to him and having a goalkeeper of his class and ambition, its great for us fans.

It was a great win and result. I’m pleased Notts got the 3 points on the road.

Both halves were a switch in who controlled the game. I thought Carlisle actually made more of a game of it. They had a few good chances in the first half and came out strong in the second 45 minutes. Those goals proved to be the difference, but we hardly had a touch in their half once they took control. I don’t think we even managed to get a shot away. I think all our efforts came in the first half, which goes to show how important Alex Bass and our defending were.
