Notts County Secures Third Win in a Row with 3-1 Victory Over Accrington Stanley

PON_News

Notts County roared to the top of the Sky Bet League Two table on Saturday afternoon with a fantastic 3-1 victory over Accrington Stanley at Meadow Lane.

The win, their third in a row, puts them in first place after six games in the fourth tier, and goes a long way into giving belief in their campaign for back-to-back promotions.

An early header by Dan Crowley was soon cancelled out by a looping Josh Andrews header, but a sensational brace from Macauley Langstaff in the second half put County in the driving seat on the way to three massive points. Only one change was made between the two sides, both of whom followed 2–1 victories over Tranmere Rovers and Salford City into this game, with just Jay Rich-Baghuelou absent for the visitors in change with Joe Gubbins at the back.

The action at Meadow Lane got off to a flying start, firstly as a simple cross into the area by Accrington was fumbled by Aidan Stone, but the goalkeeper recovered in time as Whalley looked to divert home inside the first two minutes. Notts managed to shake the scare off and soon had the ball in the back of the net, as a wonderful recycled cross by Jodi Jones met the head of Dan Crowley at the back post to give the hosts an early advantage.

Jones had another chance to fire in a cross from the same position immediately after the goal, but he sent that one into the grateful arms of Toby Savin. Accrington were presented with a great opportunity to bite back just before the half-hour mark as a slip from Kyle Cameron allowed Whalley to break in on the right, but his delivery was poor, and it allowed Notts to clear.

They gave away a cheap foul on the flank soon after, though, and a high ball to the back post was headed back over the flailing Stone and into the back of the net, with striker David McGoldrick unable to hack the ball off the line at the death. The goal took the sting out of the game somewhat, with neither side carving out anything clear-cut.

The second half began with County making their way back into control. A sharp bit of footwork from Macauley Langstaff on the right wing saw him squeeze away from Rosaire Longelo, but his cross was cleared away to Palmer who recycled it into a low shot for Jones that fizzed wide. However, Langstaff would not be denied for long as he scored twice in quick succession to put Notts County firmly in control.

Although Accrington Stanley were defeated by Notts County, the winners of last season's National League Play-Off, their missed opportunities were truly regrettable. Josh Andrews equalised for the Reds in the first half, and they had double figures in shots at the Magpies goal but couldn’t grab another. County made sure of victory in the final minute and took three points as they rose to top of the table and Stanley dropped to eighth.

i thought accrington stanley looked like a decent team, but with no disrespect intended nothing special. they are not a side i would want notts to allow to control the game, as we saw what happened after we took the lead and they grew into the game. i just feel our quality really shined, especially in the second half when we created chance after chance. langstaff had several efforts, so i am pleased he got two today, even though he was limping before his second. awesome performance!

Superb win for Notts today, I thought we dug deep when they levelled the game and showed some excellent quality to get back into the game. The second half was very lively, but Notts did enough to get the win which was fully deserved. I am incredibly proud of the way the team played.

A very good victory and performance against a decent Accrington Stanley team, you can tell they are a good side. They played well going forward, as their statistics show, and could have easily controlled the game after equalising. The warning signs were creeping in almost as soon as we scored. We played very well in the second half, more determined and better in control. Langstaff getting yet another brace is great to see, our team pulled off a good victory today.

What an outstanding performance by Notts! They demonstrated true resilience and determination to bounce back after the setback of going level. The victory feels even more empowering, knowing that Notts are now at the top of the league table. The players put in a solid performance, and the entire squad showed their strength and depth. It’s truly a testament to the team’s character and ability to overcome adversity. Well done, Notts!

Notts played exceptionally well to take the lead in the game, with Dan Crowley’s header being well-placed and lifting the game. However, nerves did creep in and passes started to be misplaced. Accrington Stanley did well to seize on this and made it difficult for Notts by creating their own chances. When Accrington pulled level, they had a couple of efforts which made me nervous that they would take the lead themselves.

Thankfully, in the second half, playing in front of the KOP, Notts shined. It was a superb performance by the squad, with Richard Brindley, John Bostock, Connell Rawlinson, Kyle Cameron, Matt Palmer, Dan Crowley and David McGoldrick all working well together at various times of the game to give Macaulay Langstaff the opportunity to get on the scoresheet. Palmer, Stone and Jones were my standout players. Simply brilliant

This win just goes to show the quality Notts has this season. We’ve gone to the top of the League Two table and that's not a place we are familiar with. I feel like there’s something special in the air around Meadow Lane, an undercurrent of excitement and belief that is propelling the team to give their best. The likes of Dan Crowley and Macauley Langstaff have been instrumental in these wins, and it’s clear that their impact on the pitch is immeasurable. Consistently strong performances like these will undoubtedly help us maintain our position at the top.

What a game! Although Accrington tried to level the field, they ultimately couldn’t hold off Notts' persistent attacks, especially in the second half. Langstaff’s performance added further vigour to our spirits. Three wins in a row! We’re riding a wave of positivity here.

Needed a great effort to get the win as I think Accrington will be in the mix come the seasons end they looked well organised and drilled

Following up from the Tranmere Rovers and Doncaster victories, this was another great performance from Notts. Controlled the game well, especially in the second half and crowned it off with a well-deserved victory. Crowley and Langstaff were the standout performers.

Impressive performance by Notts County against Accrington Stanley. Crowley and Langstaff seem to be making a habit of starring in these games. With this win, our chances for back-to-back promotions look even more likely. Can't wait for the next game! Up the Magpies!
