Last September Steve McClaren took  over from Nigel Clough at my club.I wasn't very happy at the time but I'm very happy to be to be proved wrong SO FAR .Rams were comfortably placed in the championship and, with 2 or 3 loan signings and a little tweeking of the formations and playing style went on to narrowly miss out on promotion to the promised land.About a month after SM's appointment  Sean Derry became Notts manager but his, and Notts,  situation was much different, with  Notts in freefall and facing almost inevitable relegation.SD's approach was similar to SM in that he brought in some good loan signings and tried to get an underperforming team back on track.SM failed to get promotion but SD secured safety on the last day of the season at Oldham .So near ,yet so far for us,jubilation for you                 .                                                                             During the close season The Rams have managed to secure longer contracts for most of our players but SD has seen his playing staff decimated,.I am very happy with the way things are progressing at the Ipro, especially as it looks like Thorne will become a permanent signing.I will be even happier if we can sign a good right back and cover for our centre forward. Meanwhile SD has made some promising  signings but also suffered the setback of losing a player for the coming season.                                                                                                So what about the match today. On paper  it should be no contest -The Rams just missed promotion, the players know each other and should carry on where they left of last season.Notts pulled off 'The Great Escape' but have virtually a completely new team, still getting to know each other so  SD has a real job in his hands                                                                                                                                                                            Pre season friendlies are about match fitness and experimenting,so the result doesn't really matter but performances do.I just hope the weather doesn;t spoil things and no-one gets injured.....and  no one falls out with me.I  am going by the way.

I didn't go to the match, what was your opinion @super_ram?

@hysongreenpie opposing teams fans are made welcome on here, as long as they behave and super_ram does or he has to answer to @GrannyPie

I wasn't very impressed with Derby.

They played some good football and shown some sharp finishing, however I became frustrated quickly. It was like watching a side desperate to win no matter what, shirt tugging, diving (or going to ground easily), the list was endless. I referred to @super_ram that it was like watching Mansfield Town, although I hear they behaved themselves in our friendly.

Poor conditions and I was concerned about the flooding which occurred in front of the Pavis Stand.

The friendly at times was lively, some lovely touches and passing from the trialists who looked like decent signings. We lacked the build and bulk of players like Derby, decent teams will end up overpowering and bundling our players off the ball. It was good to see some of the players being tricky and quickly getting the ball back, I don't want to sound impatient but I do have (slightly) concerns that we need a squad. They will need to gel more and settle in, I have faith in Derry though.

To what iv seen, took step back from last year (all down to losing best players) SD as got 3 weeks to fix it .....plenty of time. Derby looked ok in parts imo I wouldn't say PL material.... yet.

A decent workout for both teams. The rain made the surface very slippy , so changing direction and stopping became tricky with both sets of players falling/slipping over.It also made it difficult for the goalies handling especially from hard shots. It would appear that @notts-joe only sees oppositon players shirt tugging.I admit there was one blatant tug from Will Hughes and in a normal game I would not have complained had he been booked(It was done in an obvious jokey way and Notts accepted this) When @notts-joe was moaning after the game I asked Jake(super-pie) what he thought about the shirt pulling and he said he agreed with me.

With regards to winning at all costs I say if a player doesn't put himself about a bit then the fans accuse him of not trying enough( a few  comments by Notts fans around me when Notts player were out muscled) or the Rams were too physical(again comments-like 'it's only a friendly' )

One of my concerns about Derby last season was that we had no answer when teams 'bullied' us It is a very fine line between being hard but fair and being dirty and yesterdays conditions didn't help.I don't think the Rams overstepped the line but agree with @notts-joe  that some  Notts players need to be stronger.I also agree with @notts-joe regarding the new signings-plenty of encouraging signs.I was impressed  by the quality of deliveries into the box from free kicks. The Rams ,IMO,still look a bit rusty but looked better when they went up a gear and I felt they still had a bit in reserve. Notts players are obviously  still getting to know each other. There's still 3 weeks to go to the real kick off and I expect SD to sort out Notts deficiencies.

Thanks for the reports guys, I agree we have lost some good players and the new influx will need time to gel. I am a bit concerned that there are some important positions that need filling before the season starts.

It shouldn't be a surprise we lost to the Rzms they ghouls be one of the top teams in the championship next season.

the poor condition really did play apart in the game, i was not impressed but i felt we looked more creative. our ideas at times was similar to what we did under our previous manager and passing back in good positions is frustrating.

great goal from us, best of the game. super should be happy.
