Fourth officials

I see that our "friends" across the river were a bit peeved when the fourth official gave a hand ball against one of their players which resulted in a penalty and the player being sent off. This is very interesting because I didn't know that a fourth official could do that, how can he see a penalty standing on the half way line when the ref and his assistant who were much nearer missed it? As it happens video analysis proves the decision to be the correct one.

 

What do you think, should fourth officials become more involved? They get enough harassment from the managers as it is, I can forsee more if this becomes the norm.

I personally think that some decisions could be made on monitor... examples could be anything that happens and then there follows a natural break in play, give the official time to review, although I wouldn't be in favour of stopping play all the time...

 

But the decision should be made directly to the referee via earpiece

3rd umpires in cricket have their moments, but overall have added to the game, not taken away from it.

Most clubs now video every match to broadcast so I'm sure it could be done without any major upheaval to the game itself.
