Player ratings v Orient

Piethagoram is a bit late, so here are my thoughts:

Collin 6 – no difficult saves to make, but kicking and command of his area was a bit better.  Slowly improving.

Tootle 6.5 – looks suited to the wing back role, put himself about well.

Hollis 7 – kept things simple, good positionally, didn’t do a lot wrong.

Duffy 6.5 – solid performance in the middle of a back three.

Laing 6.5 – see Hollis, although knock a point off if his red card was for kicking the ball away.

Dickinson 7 – looked good defensively and going forwards.

Rodman  5.5 – competed a bit better, but his forward threat was minimal.

O’Connor 6.5 – much better, more involved and gave us a bit of shape.

Milsom 5.5 – anonymous for much of the game, but stuck at it even though he seemed to be struggling late in the game.

Stead 8* - our only threat first half, another great goal out of nothing before he went off.

Forte 6 – hard to know his position, but he did look a threat at times.

Collins 7.5 – Collins could be very good.   Pace, power, and a superbly cool finish for his goal.

Oliver 6 – good substitution, gave us an outlet when were under the cosh.

Richards 6.5 – nicely weighted pass to free Collins, really hope to see more of him.

Overall a very enjoyable afternoon.  A pretty dull first half was followed by the sort of second half that makes it well worth the money.

Positives:

We showed real fighting spirit after going down to 10 men.

Sheridan’s substitutions were spot on.

The crowd really woke up when we scored, we can create a good atmosphere if you give us something to cheer!

Jordan Richards – what a pleasure it was to see the son of a legend grace Meadow Lane.

A home win.

Within touching distance of the play-offs.

Above the Stags in the league.

Negatives:

Just the one, the fact that the destiny of the points could have been decided by the **** with a whistle rather than the 22 players on the pitch.  How he failed to award a penalty (and possible red card) for the foul on Collins is beyond me.  At least I can criticise him without it being called sour grapes.

@Elite_pie Yes, I am a little late...

Well, here is the scores from the Piethagoram jury of one :D

Collin 5.5  – Was more protected than of late. Nearly spilled a shot in 2nd half and still doesnt feel comfortable commanding his area.

Tootle 6 – Better afternoon than at Cheltenham - certainly improved in 2nd half

Hollis 7 – a towering performance when he needed to put his head on it. One lapse 50 pence header in 2nd half which I forgive

Duffy 6 – Took a booking for the team, quite solid

Laing 5.5  – at times in first half, you could see maybe why Motherwell had discarded him. Ref have no choice with 2nd yellow after kicking ball away

Dickinson 6 – held his line and was combatitive.

Rodman  5 – better 2nd half, was more involved, though surprised he wasnt subbed at half time

O’Connor 6  – improved performance 2nd half

Milsom 5  – He too could hve been subbed. Defensively held position but little creativity

Stead 7.5  - Seems to have more room as Forte occupies other defenders. Class goal

Forte 6 – better than Idle, gets into positions, without ever feeling that Stead and him are a partnership. The good news both can score

Subs

Collins 7 – Basically Campbell with a goal scoring pedigree. Great finish, nice to have a player prepared to run. Should have had penalty, ref apparently admitted afterwards he got the decision wrong...nice to have a ref with honesty.

Oliver 6 – Was able to hold ball up under pressure.

Richards 6.5 – Peach of a pass, but it was the it's timing just as much as anything to put Collins through. No nerves, just slots in nicely. Pedro would again be proud

Summary

A poor nay dire first half, where Orient dominated from the off.  Second half, JS raised the team which was greater than its individual parts

Here's my take on the game:

Collin 5.5 - Nothing too strenuous for him to deal with, tried to at least come for crosses, but punching was a bit woeful. Distribution still poor, but overall he was better than previous games. Jury is still out.

Tootle 6 - Did Ok, but would like to see him get a few more crosses into the box from the byeline.

Laing 5.5 - Carries the ball well, but his distribution was poor today. Should not have been in the situation to get sent off as we should have been given a penalty a few seconds earlier.

Duffy 6.5 - Pretty solid and played well generally.

Hollis 7 - Pick of the back four, he was strong defensively and caused problems at set pieces going forwards. I still look at him and think he would be a much better player if he put on a stone of muscle.

Dickinson 7 - Best game I've see from him so far. Strong defensively and tried to get forward. I will add that he looks as though he could lose a stone in weight though.

Rodman 5 - Again the weak link of the side, but at least put a shift in this week. Still don't quite see what he brings to the team.

O'Connor 7 - Much better and the kind of display I thought we should be seeing week in, week out already by now.

Milsom 7 - I thought he had a good game and was our best midfielder in the first half. Wanted the ball and was involved in most of our best play in the first half and covered a lot of ground. Tired in the second half and looked to be limping late on.

Stead 8 - MOM without a shadow of doubt. Caused their back four problems and was our main threat in the first half. You can tell his confidence is high at the moment as the ball is sticking to him!

Forte 6 - I thought he was playing a little far apart from Stead in the first half, but looks much better when the ball is in front of him, rather than having his back to goal.

Subs:

Collins 7 - I actually thought he was the wrong substitution for Stead and Oliver should have been brought on instead. He should have had a penalty and scored a great goal, so that shows what I know!

Oliver 6 - Needed his strength up front to tie up their back for and he certainly tried to do that, good substitution Mr Sheridan!

Richards 6 - Did exactly what was asked of him and played a cracking ball through for our third. Could be some player for Notts, son of a legend and the whole fan base will want him to succeed!

Final Thoughts.

The extra man in midfield is definitely helping Notts and the back four, but I'm always left with the impression that they are a bit soft and don't want to get hurt.

The back four still annoys me with the amount of times they hook the ball up field blind and it gives the opposition momentum coming forwards. Boot it into row Z if you can't see a black and white shirt to pass to and then reorganise.

Non penalty decision: It looked a penalty from the opposite end of the pitch, but the ref was miles behind play and did look across to the linesman for guidance, but got none, so was left to make the call on his own.

Stead: On fire at the moment and long may it continue. Let's hope the hamstring is fine for Tuesday!

Collin 5 – Negatives today was mostly with his distribution but he looked uncomfortable at times when Orient just knocked empty balls into the box.

Tootle 6 – Did his job well, contributed, looked stead overall.

Hollis 7 – One of reliable performances and he easily dealt with Orient, I felt proud to hear people singing his name and encouraging him for once.

Duffy 5 – Caught moaning a few times (I hate this in football) but all round did okay.

Laing 7 – Partnered well with Hollis and would talk constantly with other players, alert and defended well. Not at fault for the sending off, though he should have stuck to saying nothing.

Dickinson 7 – Played better, focused and eager to drive forward. He got caught out a little but would make up for it.

Rodman  5 – Never really noticed much from him myself but what I did, he did alright.

O’Connor 6 – Worked as a team player, tried to influence Notts and held players nerves after Orient had pulled one back.

Milsom 4 – Felt he looked very infective and tired, he should have passed more than trying to take on Orient players.

Stead 9 - Superb in the second half, he didn't put a foot wrong - he did well in the first but drifted a little too much for me.

Forte 4 – Worked well with Stead and others, yet he didn't do much and when in control he lost it a fair bit by doing nothing at all.

--Subs--

Collins 7 – Well taken goal, put in plenty of effort - he needs to watch the ball better and try to control his own movement when intercepting the ball but I was told he has a swagger of Grealish about him and I see it too.

Oliver 4 – Not a lack of effort, more skill related but very ineffective in the Orient area.

Richards N/A – Sadly can't rate him, as I didn't realise he had entered the field.
