Sheffield United Vs Notts County

I felt our defense held up but let us down when we needed them, now the fault is with the midfield and I would agree with Joe. Fotheringham was class, he was very cool and kept trying. I liked that he acknowledged the support and tried to get us to lift them!

Now Jamal Campbell-Ryce had a poor game.

He lost the ball quite a few times and lacked support from others, yet he did not support play very well.

Liddle's challenge was reckless, he should have headed it or waited for it to come down. In his defense he hasn't cost us and he's been one of our most reliable players but it would have been a quick reaction for him and he did not mean to catch him.

Was our lads carrying bug spray? They kept dropping like flies!!!!

Well we set off at 11:30am yesterday and immediatly ran into traffic just getting out of Weymouth. We only got to Brammel Lane at about 7:20, constant traffic all the way up to Sheffield, took us a while to find the ground then find somewhere to park. On the way back, the M42 and M5 were closed so we had to make a fairly big de-tour, and only got home at 3:50am. The things we do for our football clubs eh?

Great day though, despite defeat I was pleased. A 2-1 defeat at Sheffield United playing with ten men for 75 minutes is no disaster. We went about it the right way with 10 men. Everyone around me was constantly shouting "push out" but we did the right thing. If we tried to go for it and push out with 10 men they could easily play the ball in behind us, or catch us on the break and we could have been on the end of a right drubbing. Granted, United could have had a few more goals but for some pretty woefull finishing but I thought we limited them to very few clear cut chances and defended the box well, we deffinatly frustrated them at times.

My one concern was the lack of balls we won on the air. Enoch took his goal very well, my ribs are hurting from the celebrations. I've not been at a Notts match for a very long time where our fans have gone quite as crazy as that! It was a shame we couldnt hold on, I truly believe that had we managed to stay level for another five minutes things might have been different. They would have started panicking, the fans would have got on their back and they would have resorted to hoofing it forwards instead. The actual free-kick that led to their goal was never a free-kick but that was just one of many mistakes the officials made on the night. Sheffield United got every 50/50 decision. We didnt make his job easy, and our lads need to learn not to run through opposition players. I've not yet seen the Liddle tackle on the television but my instant reaction was that it was a red card, and I've no complaints about the decision. Not too sure what Liddle was thinking though, there was no need to go in like that at that stage of the game. Even if the lad had gone through to score there would have been 75-80 minutes left and we would have had eleven men!

Still, thats football. It's all ifs buts and maybes. The lads did us proud. 45 games left to win the league yet :D

Although we lost I think we coped very well with 10 men,not disheartened

I had a group of grumpy old blokes sat behind me Joe and they just complained about everything all night, even had a go at me for staying stood up for a while after our goal and singing! I couldnt help but turn round and say "not bad for a useless c***" eh?" when Enoch scored as thats exacly what they called him! Shocking. I just think, you go to football as a hobby at the end of the day, so why keep going if you cant enjoy it? If you always find something to complain about surely its time to go and do something else? Rant over

Watched the highlights not so long ago. I still think Liddle deserves the red card. He didnt get their lad in the face like I thought he had but it was still a very dangerous challenge and to be honest he could have broken their lads ribs. Enoch's goal looks even better on second viewing, noticed he had to put up with a defender tugging on his shirt as he pulled the ball down though! Loved the reaction of our lads too, everyone of them ran over and hugged him, it clearly meant  a lot to them.

The free-kick that led to their second goal, well I 'm even more angry about it having seen it again. Their guy clearly goes in two footed on our lad (cant remember who now) with studs showing, yet gets a free kick for it!? Unbeleavable. It dosent excuse the defending of the free kick however, it seemed there was a lack of communication or confusion as to who was marking who. Poor old Alan Sheehan was trying to keep two men out; one of which had hold of him round the waist but ofcourse the referee, mr Keith Stroud missed that!

Thing is we can talk about this as much as we want but it wont change anything. We'll put it right next time out :) Just wish I could be there to see it really. I cant lie, I get a bit sad after I've been to a Notts game and enjoyed it so much whatever the result when I think it'll be another few months before I see us again :( It's by far and away the main thing I miss about Nottingham

Having seen the video there's not much I can add to the above comments, particularly Weymouth's.Regarding the sending off-it's one of those that if it had been the other way round we would all have been screaming blue murder and agreed completely with the ref. There was no malicious intent, just the wrong decision.

@super_ram when you say the wrong decision do you mean by the ref or by Liddle?

As I said before, I think by the letter of the law he had no choice but another ref may have overlooked it as early over exuberance.

I assume he will be missing for 3 games?

I think Liddle was a bit over-enthusiastic and reckless. The ref could have used common sense and been more lenient by giving a yellow card and a stern lecture. The fact the match was being shown live on Sky may have influenced his decision, whjch as you said,to the letter of the law,was the correct one.I wish referees would be just as strict with players who go down too easily and especially with shirt pulling.

Yes County really on a loser when Liddle was sent off so early in the game. I thought Febian Brandy did well for United and rightly got the man of the match award.

Brandy played well.

He's a little cheating swine though - Shame he couldn't have been this useful for us but then again we never really gave him enough chance. Mind you, I wouldn't like to see a player who looks for fouls wearing one of our shirts. You can tell Sheffield United's got him ;)

Wasn't like it at Walsall was he @sadlad?

Lets just say he won us about 8 of our 11 pens last season!! He knows how to go down for sure. However he really improved as the  season went on and has that bit of pace. Scored some good goals and we were disappointed he took a side-step to a fellow L1 club.
