25 Goal a season striker

Why are some fans obsessed with us signing a 25 goal a season striker?
The way I see it is we don’t need one with the system we play we have goal threats from 3 or different players who could all bag 15+ goals each quiet comfortably. The system Ian Burchnall employs also seems to suit this model. I’d rather be in a position where we have defences having to look out for threats from different areas creating opportunities and space for others while one is being marked than be reliant on one player to score the majority who can quiet easily be marked out of a game. Sutton had no one score over 15 league goals for them last season and it worked out well for them. Les Bradd said on the Magpie circle that the season we got promoted 50 years ago we had 4 or 5 players scoring 15 + each and that’s how I see it this season there’s others that will chip in as well so I don’t see a shortage of goals at present with the style Ian Burchnall employs.

It's a thing of the past.

English clubs used to have 2/3 very good strikers, that would get a fair amount of goals between them - yet it's harder to find just one who can score 20 goals. I don't think Notts needs another prolific striker, I personally felt someone like Wes Thomas would've been more than effective.

i.e someone who can score, but can also do the work-out wide - take players on and assist.

A field where dreams become reality.

Players who score 25+ goals a season are rare and the idea that you can pin all your hopes on one bloke who will score loads of goals is outdated. We've already got Wootton, who'll get about 15 to 20, and Roberts and Rodders should comfortably get into double figures given the chance. If you've got several players who are a goal threat, you're in a better position.

All the same, we do need another striker to compete with Wootton, and we only really have Mitchell (I don't see Sam and Knight as strikers). Fingers crossed he lives up to his promise at KL.

You would be very lucky to find a 25 goal a season man in this league to be honest as anyone who normally gets that amount will be looking to move up the ladder. Wootton has the ability if everything falls into place to hit 25 goals in a season, but he would need a lot of chances to be created and the season after he would most likely be gone.

I remember Gary Jones hitting 25 goals in one season, never did it before or after and the only genuine 25 goals a year man you could say Notts have had on their books for generations is Lee Hughes.
