Ratings : Notts v Torquay

Don't know if the Post was watching the same game.. I needed 24 hours to get my mind right

Slocombe 4 Judgment and communication seems to be a problem.  A fiasco of a Sunday football goal

Brindley 6 Some incisive forward runs  but options not spotted to release the correct pass. One good shot

Rawlinson 3 Free header missed at the end of the first half and a catastrophic blunder to allow the ball to bounce. Really should have the experience to make the right decision

Cameron 4 Not the towering signing I was expecting on this performance...or maybe I am a little harsh

Chicksen 7 Great cross for Wootton to score. Frustrating that left wing play is checked to go inside when space available in front

DKE 5 Answers on a postcard, why he's having to mark Torquay's centre forward in midfield

Francis 4 Needs to stamp is authority but a lightweight 1st half, he didnt appear for the second

Palmer 7.5 Phil Turner , mark II , recycles the ball well

Ruben 7 well marked, freedom to create space just wasnt available

Wootton 7.5 Took his goal well and cruelly brought down for free kick outside the area

Roberts 7 industrious, good shot first half but opportunities limited

Spot on imo.

I’d also give JoB a 7 for injecting much needed enthusiasm. Didn’t do much else, but did seem to ‘captain’ the team when he came on.

Namene also 6.5. Needs match fitness, but will be a massive asset going forwards. Obviously has pace, needs to get game time now.

Slocombe 5.5 - Goal was poor few but he didn't really have to do too much.

Brindley 6.5 - The non-centre back the pick of the bunch for the centre backs, some good moments where he started attacks just by running with the ball.

Rawlinson 4.5 - Struggled in the air, never looked that comfortable all game.

Cameron 5.5 - Like Rawlinson, should've been more dominant aerially, ok when he got forward.

D-KE - 6 Ok, tried to get forward but never really caused them any problems in the final third.

Chicksen 6.5 - Crossing was pretty good, but never really looked that comfortable when he got forward and preferred the sideways pass.

Francis 4.5 - Poor on the ball, needed to be more aware to move it quicker, targeted by Torquay's press.

Palmer 7.5 - Probably my MotM, good on ball, switched the play well, dominated the midfield second half.

Roberts 7 - Caused their defence a lot of problems even though he was usually doubled up on, tired at the end.

Rodrigues 7 - Nice skills and touches, space for him was limited in the second half. Probably should've scored from his header.

Wootton 7 - Lots of good runs, battled well against the Torquay defenders and a great header for the goal.

Subs.

Nemane 7- Thought he made a big difference in that second half, a proper attacking outlet out wide. Great that he can just blitz past players, agree he needs more game time.

J'OB - 6.5 - Usual energy and forward running, better off the ball than on it.

Mitchell N/A - Not enough time to make a difference.

Rodrigues was totally marked out of the game, it didn't help that he had to drift to the left in order to support this area. It was as if he needed to do it, just so that he could get onto the ball - I thought Chicksen was quite poor in this regard. He never actually supported play much at all, whereas O'Brien was trying to get the movement going.

Chicksen just wanted to put the ball into the area without much thought.

So, I actually find myself in favour of @menzinho ratings - as I feel it's a fairer reflection.

Rodrigues: 6 - Had a very good first half, as he drifted deep to receive the ball and did help to get Notts forward. He also played the pass that opened Wootton into key areas. In the second half, he was too marked. Very ineffective but it wasn't completely his fault.

Chicksen: 6 - He did okay, but at times he had better options than just whacking the ball into the area. He needs to look around him more than he does at the opponent's penalty box because a lot of his crosses were never going to create goal chances - simply due to the amount of bodies Torquay had in the box (some were extremely poorly placed mind).

O'Brien: 7 - Talked a lot to the surrounding players, he looked revived and eager to influence the play. Him coming on change the dynamics of the game, whilst Neame had a similar impact - it was O'Brien trying to do things differently. He used his experience and head to out skill Torquay and, this got us into areas that others simply couldn't. He also tried to make sure Chicksen didn't just lob the ball to them, and with Rodrigues coming across - he linked well with them both.

I think we would've benfitted from playing O'Brien from the start.

A field where dreams become reality.

Slocombe 3 - Glue on his boots? He has to come for that.

Brindley 7 - Looks fantastic stepping out - so comfortable on the ball.

Rawlinson 5.5 Felt Wright got the better of him. Needs to improve understanding with Slocombe.

Cameron 6 - He was decent but again struggled with Wright.

D-KE - 5 - Positionally naiive at times and offered nothing going forwards.

Chicksen 6 - Not a winger and therefore can't beat his man as often as this game would've warranted. Good crosses though.

Francis 5.5 - Too slow passing, ball needed to be moved quicker and with greater purpose.

Palmer 7.5 - What a player. Looks at ease, never panicked.

Roberts 6 - Double marked, looked to do too much often.

Rodrigues 7.5 - Everything we did that looked dangerous came through him. Unpredictable.

Wootton 8 - That goal looks easy, but it isn't. I didn't even see him coming so no wonder the CB didn't either.

Subs.

Nemane - 6 - Struggled a bit 1 on 1 and when he did beat his man, crossing was wayward.

J'OB - 6- Injected the pace needed.
