  1. Well done @Fan of Big Tone and @Fozzy. I used to enjoy the occasional cider, but I only drink one now on special occasions, usually if out having a family meal. Otherwise, I don't drink alcohol because for the last 4 years I have been focusing heavily on my health. When I had kidney stones, I was told then that drinking alcohol wouldn't be good for me. I was encouraged to drink plenty of water, which I do, but I admit I went through a spell where I drank nothing but water with one drink of orange and lemonade, drinking less water. I had a pre-diabetic scare, I still do, but I have managed to lower my blood sugar levels. This getting older malarkey isn't fun. Yet provided I can keep my joints strong and avoid dislocations as much as possible, spend quality time with my family and children. Whilst losing weight and avoiding further health complications (not just diabetes) I will consider myself thankful.
  2. You may remember that there was a former member in our group who used to go by the name "Who r ya?". You Pies!!", he was a frequent member who enjoyed sharing his views on Notts County with us. He roughly spent 3 years with us and during that duration he posted 1,263 times. In 2019, a few months before he disappeared. He told me that he had been unwell, he said that it wasn't anything serious and that he would be fine. I wished him a speedy recovery, not thinking much more about it. It turns out, he passed away unexpectedly. I don't know the cause, the details are very vague, but I reached out to a relative who earlier today confirmed his passing. There have been a few members who in the past have died, and it's been known, however, I find it quite saddening that despite my initial concern. A member who had established himself as a very kind and caring person, could pass away without us truly knowing. I have tried to reach out, it's difficult because the email address used seemed to be a shared one. That e-mail links me to an account on Facebook which at the time I tried to unearth what happened seemed dormant. It's with my deepest regret to inform members that he has passed away. Rest in Peace, Pete Day.
  3. @Fan of Big Tone - done. You're welcome.
  4. @Fan of Big Tone don't feel obliged, but would you like to me to crop the image so the players can be seen more clearly?
  5. When I got my first job, I used to have to be in for a 7am start. I would wake up at 6am, get dressed and then nod off for 10 minutes. @GrannyPie would wake me, as she would be preparing to start work on her sawing machine. Sometimes, she struggled to get me to wake up. I'm proud to say that I have never been late! Plus, I occasionally would nod off on the bus. As you can probably assume, I am not an early morning person at heart! After being there for a while, I was given the responsibility to open up the restaurant for breakfast. This meant I had to wake up at 5am! so I could be in for 6am, so I could set up the service. Take stock of the storeroom and prepare what orders had been placed the night before and, what time the chef would be expecting them to come down. I seem to recall seeing @super_ram more, as he would head off to work early himself. I also worked many night shifts within the function room, which would see me finish 11pm to 3am in the morning. I would still be expected to work 3 hours later! Fortunately, those were usually limited to weekends only. So not only would I fall asleep on the bus going to work, I started taking the 35 bus home, so I could sleep for longer on the way back. I did the same at a different hotel/restaurant, so I was pleased when I got to work in a care home and my starting times were heaven. I loved that job, made plenty of friends. Yes, I called the residents my friends. I treated them as I would anyone, I didn't speak down to them and I wouldn't ignore anyone either. @GrannyPie also made friends with many of them. I couldn't wake up early now on a regular basis, my meds knock me out, and I would only grow more tired as the day went on. It's both a real and perfect excuse as to why I am not a morning person. PS. Before COVID. I got into the habit of having overnight oats and waking up at 7 to see the children off to school. Sometimes it was more than 8am but that's still what I would call early.
  6. Followed you earlier, from both myself and the Pride of Nottingham. Don't be afraid to chip in with a like or comment on the PON page, I am trying really hard to improve our presence on their. Thankfully some of the lads are very forward with their support and post some great comments! PS. Your display picture disappeared for me for a short time.
  7. Yes, 7 players can be named as subs. Which means more players on the bench and more of a reason to have depth in the defensive area. There were times last season where we were very blessed in attack, but a little lacking due to injuries in defence. This will help resolve that, as it will naturally give players more of a chance to feature. Instead of the same players almost guaranteed to get on, with 5 only being named before. We can leave a keeper there, then use the remaining 6 spaces to give Luke Williams more room for thought on how we can make important changes.
  8. I was about to link three of their articles, but I see they're behind a payment gateway which is fair enough. 14p isn't much to ask, not sure if you can subscribe for a day though. It does seem pointless linking though, as nobody without an account and subscription could read them. Their paper has been very good to Notts, I almost wrote two pieces for them, but personal issues took my attention away from that. This was during our first and second seasons in the National League. My duties and time was needed elsewhere, but I found them to be very encouraging.
  9. I always knew he would sign, I didn't fear he would leave because he's one of those players that knows when he enjoys his football. His performances are better as a direct result, naturally having spoken to him with another fan helps. I should've bribed him with an offer of exclusive prints for life. He's a solid League Two player, we know that. He can finally crack on with his career and put behind him his spell at Oxford, which seems to be their loss and our gain. The fact they failed to get out of him what we did on loan, it makes me thankful the club is starting to develop a reputation for working alongside players who have injuries. I was told the reason why Jodi doesn't start often is Luke Williams trying to protect him. Hopefully, we can start him a bit more often in the upcoming season, as he does change games, but he can help to maintain them on course for a win.
  10. @DangerousSausage: This is why we should host our own open day. It would benefit the club to save no thank you to Nottingham City Council and just proceed with something in the new season. When we won League Two we had a brilliant open day before the first League One campaign. If the club did their homework, they could turn the day into a profit by changing vendors to be present. Or, they could just do it for free, but I would imagine drinks, food etc would be a popular selling point.
  11. Personally, I am glad to say goodbye to BT Sports and hello to Sky. I never thought i would say that, but I felt disappointed with BT Sports. Their hidden agendas and biased coverage towards other teams became to the point it wasn't remotely natural at all. Only in spells during this past season did they give us the credit deserved and, that was more them sucking up to us. I would subscribe to the PiesPlayer, but I don't require match coverage and there's not much else worth it on the service. The IFollow is just games, right? It should be merged into one convenient service, obviously the IFollow is for overseas fans, but still if we had the PiesTV or whatever, we streamed our over games as Derby does then we wouldn't need to worry about anything. When the team is doing well and fans feel a connection to the club, attendance won't decrease. We could even see an increase in attendance from UK fans who can't attend regularly. I know a friend from Skegness who would love it and more than likely want to come more to home games as a result.
  12. We were allegedly in for Andrew Dallas before, he would be a decent signing but when he's played against us. He looks like an average person. Was it Weymouth that he first played against us with? I do remember him playing for Solihull Moor and feeling excited to see him in a better team, leaving feeling disappointed. Yet he did okay for Chesterfield. Two Forest friends keep telling me Notts should go in for Jordan Smith, their former first team keeper. I'm told his deal expires soon. In my opinion, James Daly is an extremely talented player. I believe he shows exceptional skill and versatility on the field, consistently demonstrating his love for the game. Darnell Johnson, who was previously considered one of Leicester City's most promising talents, could prove to be a valuable addition to the team, especially if Connell Rawlinson re-signs and Johnson is brought on to rotate between games.
  13. John Bostock vs. Wrexham will get my vote all day long.
  14. We should do what Derby does, they stream their own highlights away from EFL service and @super_ram always praises it. I haven't subscribed to the PiesPlayer or anything for ages. I tried mentioning in a fan committee at the club that this is lost revenue because I can just rely on YouTube. The extended versions of things are mostly padding; the best bits are always available for free. I haven't used the IFollow, maybe some of the Italian Magpies have done though.
  15. I wish their genuine fans all the best, not the deluded or fickle ones. Not the ones who don't go to games, act as if they're massive fans and expect everyone else to support Nottingham Forst. As for Forest, I do enjoy the occasional banter, but I wish no harm on them. We received a lot of messages of support from fans when we were relegated, before the playoff finals, and more recently against Chesterfield. They wished us the best. I think we really need to become more like Liverpool and Everton. The husband of the fan that drove me and Cal to Wembley and back, he's a great guy and wishes us nothing but the best. It's given me a new perspective on Forest. @jsrjay also wished us all the best, he used to join me for the odd game here and there. There's the prospect that they could send us some good upcoming talent, which would be of benefit. I am pleased for those good Forest fans I know that they have stayed up. It's great for the City: Nottingham City Council are probably amongst a full on 'Premier League survival tour' a loop around the city centre and gathering in the market square.
  16. @AmericanPie, thank you! It really does mean a lot.
  17. I believe you should be able to listen to it, the worst case scenario is to use a VPN and set it to the UK. You're welcome. I missed the live airing, so I wanted to check to see if it was available after.
  18. Those were very good guesses with Frank Vincent and John Bostock. I wouldn't put anything past you @CliftonMagpie. I see you're holding your cards this round quite close to your chest, I think you may have given a bit of a big clue with the first part. We shall see. I am surprised. @super_ram hasn't had a stab at who it could be.
  19. If like me, you missed this and would like to listen to it. I believe this is it - https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/p0fln7v6 I'm currently listening to it right now.
  20. I celebrated @super_pie's birthday on Monday, we went to see @super_ram on Tuesday.... I feel like Craig David.. Wednesday is a blur. I wasn't feeling well, so I mostly rested and did PON related things. Thursday, I celebrated my birthday a day before as Jake was out until 10pm due to his explorer's group and college. We had something to eat together. Friday was busy with PON, as I was yesterday. Today, I went out for a few hours and had a walk. Popped by @super_ram as promised.
  21. It is a mess now, they shouldn't have gone all in on demolishing everything if they couldn't budget for it. It won't be long before it sees the taxes going up. I'm still annoyed about the money which went into the Vic Centre refurb from the council. Plus the money wasted bailing a failing energy company, the list is endless, and I am bothered enough to list them all. My brother would happily do this though - he did earlier when we were at @super_ram's as he is annoyed about the decision not to allow us to celebrate our promotion. The history in the picture is mostly lost, our older buildings looked much better than some of this modern stuff.
  22. I had my walk, then spent some time chatting with @super_ram - as Luna was running around grabbing things to show and play with everyone. It was nice to spend a bit of time also out in the garden. My task at some point is to help tidy it, plus reseed the grass. Two options, use an image compression tool or IMGUR. JPG (plus other format conversion tool): https://compressjpeg.com/ IMGUR: https://imgur.com/upload If you're using your mobile, IMGUR: https://img.doerig.dev/ [This bypasses IMGUR's mobile lock, as they're trying to get people to use a terrible app. Just copy the image after uploading, paste in here. If you're uploading multiple images, it's best to copy the links over one by one.
  23. True, @Joe Jones thought it would be nice to back a player. We had a difficult time doing it, as we were only offered youth players which we didn't mind, but there was an option being held back for some reason. I asked Joe to enquire about Jonthan Forte after his previous sponsor hadn't picked him up because he wasn't expected to play. We felt Forte offered good value, and we wanted to support him. I wrote an article at the time. No surprise that he improved our team once he did start getting game time. Jonathan Forte was a good servant for the club, who thankfully helped to improve our season and did well against Coventry when we lacked firepower. His spells with the club are prime examples of something who wanted to succeed, give his all and just get on the scoresheet whenever he could. I am thankful to Joe for sponsoring him for the Pride of Nottingham.
  24. I just released the latest Notts Alumni feature after a five-year hiatus. I encourage all who read this to please give it a read. If you enjoy it, why not share it on social media? This time we take a look at Jonathan Forte's career and time at Notts County.
  25. Born on July 25, 1986 in Sheffield, England, Jonathan Forte is a former professional footballer who played for several notable clubs during his career, including Notts County. Forte began his football journey as a schoolboy at Rotherham United's Academy, but later joined the Sheffield United Academy, where he played alongside Billy Sharp. During his youth career, he also featured for England at youth level. He made his professional debut for Sheffield United in 2005, playing in the Championship against Plymouth Argyle. He went on to play for various clubs, including Doncaster Rovers, Rotherham United Scunthorpe United, Notts County, Southampton, Preston North End, Oldham Athletic, and Exeter City. Forte's career saw him play for several clubs on loan, including Rotherham United and Doncaster Rovers. He later signed for Scunthorpe United in 2007, where he spent three years, scoring nine goals in ninety-eight appearances. In 2008, he joined Notts County on his first loan spell at the club, initially for a month. Forte scored a hat-trick on his debut against Barnet and his short spell at Meadow Lane ended with four goals in four appearances. The striker later re-joined Notts after renewing his loan in 2009, where he scored a further 4 goals in 14 appearances. Forte then signed for Southampton, but he only played 11 times in three years, scoring just two goals. In 2011, he had a short loan with Preston North End, where he struggled to score and only made three appearances before securing a loan back to Notts in 2012. Forte found his earlier form with the Magpies, netting five goals in ten appearances. In the same year, he was also loaned out to Crawley Town, scoring three times in twelve appearances. He would rejoin hometown team Sheffield United on loan in 2013. Before leaving Southampton in 2014, after playing as a trialist for Oldham Athletic against Australian outfit Melbourne City, Forte signed permanently for the Latics. He went on to score a career record amount of 18 goals from 60 appearances. In 2016, Forte and Notts had another reunion, joining the Magpies for an undisclosed fee. During his time at Meadow Lane, Forte became a fan favourite, scoring some crucial goals that helped the club avoid relegation. In the 2017-2018 season, he scored a crucial goal against Coventry City in the playoffs at the Ricoh Arena. In the home tie at Meadow Lane, he wrongly had a goal ruled out for offside which would have put Notts level at 2-2. Forte then joined League Two club Exeter City, where he played for two seasons, scoring five goals in 27 appearances. He left the club in 2019 and unfortunately had retired from professional football at the age of 33 due to injury. During his 15-year career, Forte played for ten different clubs and scored 80 goals in 412 league games. Throughout his career, Forte was known for his speed, dribbling ability, and clinical finishing. He was also capable of playing in a variety of attacking positions, including as a central striker, on the wings, and as an attacking midfielder. His versatility and work rate made him a valuable asset to his teams and helped him establish himself as a regular player throughout his career. Since his retirement, Forte has become involved in coaching and mentoring young footballers. He has set up his own academy, the Jonathan Forte Football Academy, which provides coaching and training to young footballers in Nottingham. Coaching and mentoring can positively impact the workplace in various ways such as building stronger teams, supporting talented employees, aligning the organization's culture and ethos with employees, creating a more inclusive culture, improving employee satisfaction scores, and staff retention. Jonathan Forte was a versatile and skilled footballer who played for several notable clubs during his career, including Notts County. He established himself as a regular player through his speed, dribbling ability, and clinical finishing, which enabled him to play in a variety of attacking positions. Despite retiring in 2019, he will be remembered as a hardworking and valuable asset to the teams he played for throughout his career.
