  3. Very sad news this, Rest in Peace Peter Bircumshaw.
  4. We need strengthening and extra additions, though I do feel we can take this as they go - if we haven't signed anyone soon I would expect trials to be offered for the pre-season friendlies.
  5. I have faith that Kevin Nolan will be able to work his magic with negotiations, for me it all stems down to the usual submit and that is money. Fingers crossed the signings we make can do the talking required to lift the fan base.
  6. I think people forget that football is largely a mental game. This past retained list largely made sense to me, there is albeit one or two changes I would have made personally - yet on paper we have a decent spine to the pre-existing squad. Also, nobody forced the players to extend their stay and if they hadn't - I am convinced people would be responding differently. The same players who saw Notts dip into the relegation zone are also the same players that started off quite brightly and turned things around under Kevin Nolan. I hardly think we would go down the route of dispersing the whole interior squad. Whilst I do think we certainly need more quality in terms of creativity and playmaking, as I have also mentioned we do require a young striker - these are things which can be addressed given the time. I'm really not sure we can go about signing players based on if they would or not get into the Mansfield squad, I'm sure other clubs don't compare in this fashion but the facts are we need to give the players time under Kevin Nolan. We need to trust his judgement, we should support the players - including Curtis Thompson and Hadyn Hollis. Lastly, I don't get why the poor form is always labelled the players fault. We was doing alright until the 'takeover' crept in and the circus reappeared. John Sheridan has to take his portion of the blame as do others.
  7. Curtis Thompson can do well when played in his natural position unhindered by injury, he's one of them I would like to see fight for his place - he's done it before though. I assume Richards won't be released regardless, but I don't think he will fit into our starting 11. He needs to gain experience and loaning him out seems the most ideal solution. It's a positive sign when all the renewed contract players speak highly of the management at Notts. Previous seasons we was told that x and y would sign, only for them to join other rivals or even taking a step above into League One - so I'm inclined to agree with SDA on this.
  8. There's a lot of work involved but I am still unsure about the quality and creative cover. I don't think 4 signings will give us that, it seems a little short and narrow. I'm excited mind. I also believe they're doing their best to sign the right players.
  9. Fixtures can change, especially if both clubs agree and I think we should wait to see if certain ties could be rearranged. I'm not overly concerned myself, I think the important focuses right now are signing players and getting the fans behind the club.
  10. I'm a little concerned and curious about why Alan Hardy says we only need 4 more players, though take things as they come. The core may respond better to Kevin Nolan from the off, I just hope for a few quality signings and a real sign that we are up for this season. Yet I'm feeling positive about things in general.

  13. It's cliché to say this but all the fixtures will be key, Brian Stubbs and Les Bradd spoke about Jimmy Sirrel wanting his players to be 'defensive' and not to concede - whilst allowing the attacking minded players to pinch the goal or run the show. We really do need to look after the points available both home and away. Despite it being nice to think Meadow Lane could be where we become unstoppable and forge a strong fortress at home. Fact is if we are aiming for promotion dropping points is only negative.
  14. Bring 'em on I say! It will be a good test to see what the squad as about them at the start and I always personally expect to see some changes. I think the fixtures look quite good.
  15. Notts County will begin the 2017/18 League Two season with a trip to Coventry City on Saturday 5 August. As fixtures go, it is arguably one of the trickiest propositions for the Magpies, with the Sky Blues coming down from League One the previous season. Things do not get easier either, with local rivals Chesterfield coming to Meadow Lane a week later in County's first home game of the campaign. In terms of the other first local clashes of the season, Lincoln City will head to the Lane on 23 September, while Mansfield Town are the opponents at the One Call a week later. The regular season will then finish with a home game against Luton Town on 5 May. Here is a list of all the fixtures. 16. With Jon Stead and Shola Ameobi both signing the contract extensions offered to them by Notts County, it dismisses my concerns over who can lead the Magpies front line during the 2017-18 season. The majority of fans I know were quietly confident about both of them signing, but I had my doubts and I thought it would be just one of the two staying put. Yet it is fantastic news that Kevin Nolan has successfully managed to retain them both, they showed us last season what a hard-working duo could do up front. Even when they didn’t play together, they allowed a poor Magpie squad to bounce back and shine after the 10-game losing run in League Two. Both players have a wealth of experience, each has something vastly different in their locker and I feel that they can be the key to passing the torch on and for this historic club to find their own natural goalscorer. We all know it’s very unlikely that they will have the engines to play game after game from August to May - we have to accept that we will need someone else to step in for one or even both from time to time. This isn’t a negative for me, I firmly feel it presents a perfect opportunity for Notts to recruit a young upcoming striker who can thrive as an understudy to the pair. Stead has recently expressed his concern with the Notts squad, sending out a message that most fans will only know too well. He said in relation to requiring a couple of 15-20+ goalscorers, "we are going to need a couple of them. I know the manager is working to get players in and I still think we are a little bit light. I think we need three or four more players in then we can have a right go." There’s no denying we need more strength in depth in certain departments, yet a concern for me is injury up top and a lack of a pacey, speedy threat. Aaron Collins would be the perfect example of someone young who fit the mould, he arrived with few expectations from my own opinion but quickly highlighted to me why he fitted the bill. I feel Nolan should identify a young striker of that calibre who can fill the void and take the strain off Stead and Ameobi. I’m not expecting fireworks from the off, yet it would be a great blessing to know we have depth throughout the squad and I feel the pair offer a lot of attraction to other potential signings – if we were able to get some creativity on the flanks and centre of midfield, for example. Providing we strengthen the defence properly and allow the attacking players to do their thing, then I don’t see why a young striker couldn’t thrive at Meadow Lane. I realise that we require a squad of about 22-25 players, but having the quality and depth in the squad will be paramount to Notts having a successful go this upcoming campaign. Honestly, Notts should be far more hardworking – the question right now is all down to where the creativity will come from? 19. I feel like Haydn Hollis, this season will be about them proving themselves. Curtis Thompson can be a bigger asset for us, he just needs to take the chances (which he does tend to do) but he needs to avoid injury and just sitting on the bench. He must fight for a place, I want to see this from him.
  20. Hopefully he can enjoy his football like he did at the end of last season, it makes such a huge difference when you smile and enjoy what your doing. I also feel him extending his stay will encourage signings, as we now have a bit of depth - I know the years are clocking up but upcoming players will look up to him and Stead. I'm delighted to see him remain at Notts.

  23. Jon Stead has put pen to paper on a new contract at Notts County. During the 2016-17 campaign, the 34-year-old was the Magpies' highest scorer with 14 goals, and he won the League Two Player of the Month award for September. There was interest from the United States for Stead, who was sidelined by injury midway through the season, but he has now committed his future to Meadow Lane and he says he is "delighted" with the decision. He told the official club site: "It took me a while to make sure it was the right thing for me and the family, but it definitely is and I can't wait to get going. "I want to be here. It's exciting times - there's a real buzz about the place. You don't want to be looking from the outside and wishing you'd been involved. "I know the gaffer sees me playing a big part in his team and that's all you want to hear as a player." Manager Kevin Nolan added: "He doesn't only bring goals, but his all-round play, experience and professionalism are first class. "He's the type of player any manager would love to have in their dressing room." It is unconfirmed how long the new deal is for, but it is believed to be for one year. 24. I'm hoping we sign better myself, though he can do a job - he just needs focus and work.
  25. I think that extra quality we require will no doubt emerge from the loan market, I know most will want to avoid it - yet if we are smart and recruit in the right players. We might actually see some budding talent at the lane again. Use the budget to get good league experience, add the power and quality from the loan market. Kevin Nolan will have his contacts.
