  1. @Dry Nelson Ray Thanks for the info and good luck for next season, hopefully we will both be in league 2. Interesting how he knew about Cedwyn Scott's penalties seeing as he doesn't normally take them for Notts. I'm not sure if anyone knows who the penalty taker was for Gateshead last season?
  2. Not only was Foster off his line, but there are at least 3 Wrexham players encroaching inside the box before the ball has been struck. A retake should have been ordered by the ref and a draw would have been a fairer result. That would have given us a better chance, bearing in mind that Wrexham need to go to Barnet and the improving Torquay for their last two away games of the season. First Mullin penalty shout was a fair one in my view. He fell over easily, like he always does, but Cameron clearly pushed him whilst looking at the man and not the ball. Also, Foster said in his interview after the game that Scott gave away his intention of going to the keeper’s right by where he placed the ball and his body position. He could only go there or down the middle. Just shows how much experience helps when you’ve been a top flight keeper.
  3. We won't be able to hold onto him after this season, no matter which division we are in. The lad deserves a shot at playing higher, I just hope that we have a very healthy transfer clause written into his contract (if one at all) as I would not want to be selling him for less than 1 million. That would be very good business and would enable us to sign several quality replacements in other positions.
  4. I have no fears that the Notts fans won't create a great atmosphere at Wembley, but I do think that the final game at Meadow Lane may return to being the morgue like ground it has been at stages this season. As long as we can fill the Kop, I think the atmosphere will be great as they will hold the key to creating the noise for others to follow. The last thing we will need is to go a goal behind.
  5. For Woking, we need to play our strongest side as the last thing we want to be doing is giving them a psychological boost ahead of the playoffs. For the last two matches, I would be trying to put minutes into the legs of Brindley, Scott, Morias, Vincent and Jones as they could be key players and we need them to be as sharp as possible.
  6. Can't argue with any of that, but I would say our biggest undoing were the mistakes at the back which gave away two goals and the high line without enough pace amongst the Centre Backs (that's why Maguire and Lindelof no longer play together for Utd). When we signed CLE, we did not need him, the one position we did need was another Centre Half and that is what I think has cost us ultimately this season. I can definitely see that being addressed in the summer, no matter which division we will be playing in.
  7. It's a good save, but a very nice height for him. As soon as he guessed right he was always going to save it, and it helps being around 6ft 5! I've been impressed with him, did not see him against Maidstone but he looks pretty good from what I have seen. You can't ask for anymore than keeping two clean sheets on your league debut and full debut.
  8. Wrexham have been relentless since we last played them so if they win it, you can't fault them. We have to win all of our last seven and hope that Wrexham either lose another one, or draw two, still possible but a big ask. My worry now is that the goal we conceded on Saturday reminds me a lot of Wrexham's current tactics and will definitely be deployed against us.
  9. @Chris and @liampie, Basford and Gainsborough are playing at the same level, just different leagues. Boston are in the National League North, so one level higher. I'm unaware of the playing styles of all three clubs though, and it might be that Boston's style wasn't playing to Luther's strengths. Side note: Neil Bishop is the manager of Gainsborough Trinity and they have the old Brentford striker Clayton Donaldson (now 39 years old) playing in their first XI.
  10. Been recalled from Boston and sent straight back out to Gainsborough Trinity. Seems a good move to me as they have pushed him to play a higher level than Basford but he hasn't been able to get into the starting XI. Probably a season too soon for him to play at that level.
  11. It's very clever from Notts. I think most Notts fans were calling out for a plan B centre forward, but that is not how we play. In signing Morias, we have covered Langstaff if needed and Scott in the withdrawn forward / advanced midfielder role. Currently injured, but I think it was in the warm up against Wrexham so hopefully won't be long before we see him on the bench.
  12. Important three points, but there is a definite theme developing against us by the playoff contenders. They are all starting to adopt the high press and it is unsettling us for the first half of games. The issue for them is that they cannot sustain it for more than 60 minutes, and we are then able to dominate for the latter part of games. I am worried about our backline though as they are making quite a lot of mistakes recently and a team with a potent strike force could punish us more severely than Eastleigh did. Now Baldwin is injured again, we have to look to bring in cover as I wouldn't want to go into the last half a dozen games with us looking so thin at the back.
  13. Eastleigh don't score very many and their away form isn't that great compared to at home. I think we'll win this 2-0 if we get the bit of luck that we deserve.
  14. Now I feel dirty for praising a Wrexham player for nothing……
  15. 9 times out of 10 we would have beaten Dagenham that day, it was a fluke that they got anything out of the game, let alone win it. We have to look at winning every one of our last 10 games and hope that Wrexham slip up in at least one game (other than the one we play them in). Bromley and Barnet look to be the toughest fixtures left for them, whilst it is Barnet and Woking for us.
  16. Are you talking ours or the leagues? Ours is definitely Palmer, he is the engine room and his standards haven't slipped. Langstaff and Ruben have been matchwinners, but Palmer is the same every single week. Although I hate to say it, I personally think the standout player in the league has been Mullin. He has single-handedly found points for Wrexham at times when they desperately need a goal, by fair means or foul. Without him in their side I think we would have been out of sight of all teams in the division by now.
  17. Brooks - More agile than Sam, needed in 5-a-side Cameron - The only proper defender to choose from and can play a bit. Ruben - It's five aside, I need the nutmeg king. Palmer - Only having one defender means I need a link man Langstaff - 5-a-side is all about goal poaching As a side note, I once played in a 5-a-side tournament and my team won it, partly thanks to me having a 6-0 record on penalty saves throughout the tourney!
  18. Playing golf is probably the thing I most look forward to. That and just visiting different places at the weekend. Used to be heavily into cricket & fishing when younger, the cricket went with age, whilst the fishing is on the backburner until I retire. I might then annoy the wife enough to get permission to disappear for the day!
  19. I think Jodi Jones coming on at half time nullified him as an attacking threat because he could no longer get forward as much. That, along with tired legs along their front line did for Barnet.
  20. The best Notts County squad you have watched in person? Notts 81/82 squad The best Notts County player you have ever watched in person? Iain McCulloch The best Notts County legend you wished you had seen? Tommy Lawton The best Notts County goalkeeper you have ever seen live? [bonus praise for naming a memory of said keeper within your answer]. Steve Cherry. Tough one to call between him and Raddy, but went with Chez because I watched him more, although I think Raddy would have been the better keeper if I had seen more of him. Greatest memory of Chez was his amazing performance against Man City in the cup. Plus he always did a little jig when the opposition fans sang about his weight. The best Notts County defender in your lifetime? Craig Short The best skilled Notts County midfielder you have ever watched in person? Don Masson, even late on in his career he was quality. Draper was the most naturally gifted midfielder I have seen. The best Notts County winger who would take on the opposition down the byline in person? John Chiedozie (probably not the best, but was like lightning). The best natural Notts County finisher? Gary McSwegan The best player to be described as a true underdog during their spell at Notts? Gary Lund. Warnock never really fancied him, but he had a sublime left foot and was great in the air. Really took his chance after Warnock's sacking. The best worst player ever to grace a Notts County shirt? Easy, step forward Tony Hackworth The best goal from a Notts County player you have seen in person? Don O's goal against Spurs in the cup, great strike, even greater celebrations in the away end. The best ex Notts County player you have seen in person? Minds gone blank, so will have to go with Tommy Johnson when he came back to the Lane with the sheep. The best future Notts County player you have seen in person? Steve Nicol. Saw him play for Liverpool against Notts in 91/92 season and you could see his quality in a poor Notts side.
  21. Worst game Baldwin has had in a Notts shirt by a considerable distance I thought. He really did not like being given the hurry up by Barnet's press. That being said, I thought our whole back three and two central midfielders were struggling with it as well. Bostock hated it and was really found out with it, he was denied the time to get the ball onto his left foot and find a pass. I thought Palmer's ball to Baldwin for their goal was a poor one, it had too much pace on it. TAR really struggled, but it was his first game back in a long time. Our front line was much better as there was a lot of space for them to move around in, but the final ball was poor at times. Wingbacks needed to drive the ball into the box hard and low as their giant back line gobbled up most aerial balls. Second half we were much better and the Barnet press was spent after around 55 minutes. They were basically out on their feet for the last 20 minutes and this gave all our players the space and time to play. A lot of credit should go to the referee for not falling for the play acting and he did produce the highlight of the match for me with that daft spray line, I thought he was going to paint a dirty picture the way he started!!! Definite Langstaff goal BTW and I can only assume the Lino did not think he got a touch as he looked well offside to me. Our energy levels must be immense as we are looking far fitter than most teams in the closing stages of games. LW should take a lot of credit for rotating and keeping the guys this fresh. MOM: Jodi Jones P.S. Wrexham fans moaning that their side is looking leggy and tired. Is their cup run catching up with them? They have a lot of Tuesday/Saturday games lined up. P.P.S. I still love Vinny...
  22. I've read half of them @DangerousSausage, but do need to get round to reading the rest for sure. I'm a big fan of Bernard Cornwell and read all of the Sharpe books by him (apart from the last couple in India), but haven't as yet read the Grail quest series and could not get into the Starbuck Chronicles. I like the fact he does do his research and bases his books around real people and events, even though the hero is always fictional.
  23. Crikey, too many to mention, but just as a starter... Going way back to my youth, it would be Minder, The Sweeney, Six Million Dollar Man, Starskey & Hutch, A-Team, Dukes of Hazard. Then more recent would be things like X-Files and then even more recent, Life on Mars, Ashes to Ashes and Heroes (first two series as it got a bit daft and slow in the end as there was no end). I don't have Netflix anymore, and the only series I was ever interested on it was the Last Kingdom, I got Netflix because the BBC dropped it but cancelled the channel after watching the last series as there is only a film to come.
  24. Although we are missing Ruben, this might have worked in our favour. We've had a few extra days rest, Chesterfield were stuffed last night by Woking and are now in a horrible run of form. Chesterfield could not cope with the Woking high press. We also like to press the opposition, so I'm hoping that they will struggle with ours as well. Play JOB instead of Bostock and bring Jones in for Ruben, press them high and then look to bring Scott and Bostock on for the last 20-25 minutes to consolidate (hopefully when we're 2 up!).
  25. Good post @Super_Danny_Allsopp. Completely agree that either Palmer and Ruben should have picked up Lapslie, but both move up to beyond the 18 yard line. Just before the ball is played in, Baldwin glances across but he is stuck between the two attackers as he cannot commit to either. That being said, it was a quality cross that 9 times out of 10 would not have found the intended target.
