Match Discussion: Game 46 - The Rovers (H)
Totally gave up chasing back for the one on one miss in the second half. Looked thoroughly dejected. Still miles off what we know he can do. Embarrassing when a young lad on loan is the only player willing to put the effort in. He was light years ahead of his teammates.

Match Discussion: Game 46 - The Rovers (H)
I liked the way Rovers played, solid back four and runners from midfield, Street up front for them also looked quality. We on the other hand did the same old thing that weβve been doing for months now, a stretched three across the back, a boxed midfield and two wide players trying to get it to Jatta. It just has not worked at home and any half decent set up can easily hold it at bay. I think weβve won 4 home games all season against any side in the top 17, that is a shocking and quite frankly an unacceptably statistic, and we looked a totally dejected side, bereft of any ideas. At least weβll get the spring bank holiday weekend off.

Match Discussion: Game 44 - The Robins (H)
Jarvis for definite @Robbie, Whitaker Iβm not so sure about as he is a bit weak. Totally agree about Palmer, heβs always been the guy that makes us tick, but too often this season he has just been content with sideways passes and has lost a yard of pace. JJ is a different matter, if we make the playoffs he is vital to us and he needs to get match fit sharpish, so he will only do that by starting. I would prefer us to play three in the middle with Didzy playing further up and alongside Jatta, too often we get outnumbered in the middle of the park so playing a central three would address that.

Match Discussion: Game 44 - The Robins (H)
Missed the game as I was driving back from Manchester, but listened to the 2nd half on the radio. All I will say is that to lose seven home games in a season where the opposing have been so poor is unforgivable and the management cannot be defended over this. Promotion has been there for the taking this season and the whole club have badly let the fans down with some huge mistakes. Playoffs even look doubtful now as we canβt buy a win and a poor Donny Rovers side are more than likely going to win the league when they play us which in all fairness is quite laughable. A lot of talk on X that Matt Palmer told the fans in the Kop to βF Offβ during the game, did anyone see this?

Cristiano Ronaldo at 40. Is He the Greatest?
Absolutely, Maradonaβs skill was just on another level and you cannot argue with his ability to raise average teams to greatness, he was definitely the most skilful that I have seen. I suppose the article though does state βCompleteβ player and you would find it difficult to argue against Ronaldo.

Aidan Stone Has Left Notts.
Wish him all the best wherever he end up. Not a great keeper to be honest. As @Sophie dsays, he had slow reactions and was also poor under the high ball, choosing to stay on his line rather than coming for any crosses. His kicking wasnβt that great either, yes the defence was terrible in front of him granted but he did nothing to inspire any confidence.

Wagamamas
Love Wagamamas, food is freshly cooked and really tasty if you like Oriental cuisine. Personal favourite is the Beef Donburi and sticky rice but I also love the Katsu curries. Not the cheapest but well worth it.

Rumour: Crowley going to MK Dons?
His comments really havenβt helped his cause in trying to convince people that in reality, he isnβt a very nice person. Heβll go to MK and within 12 months he will be looking for another exit because he isnβt getting everything his way, the man is showing precisely why he has the journeyman tag above his head. I look forward to hearing the very warm welcome Notts fans will give him in April, heβll have a stinkerβ¦

Rumour: Crowley going to MK Dons?
If it is Β£300K, there is no way I wouldnβt snap their hands off, especially for a league 2 journeyman whoβs already had 12 clubs. Would prefer to keep him because he does make us a lot stronger going forward and can do things that no one else in the squad can, but I wouldnβt want a disinterested player just seeing out the season and trying not to get injured. Probably explains the signing of the Everton lad and the clubs thinking around signing Jarvis to play more centrally.

Charlie Whitaker signs
I assume the 6 month contract is a form of insurance for both parties to see if he can make the grade and get regular game time for us? He will also be putting himself in the shop window for the summer if he does make an impact, so would hope we may have an option written into the contract to extend. Looking like Crowley is on his way to MK either tonight or tomorrow, so it would seem he will definitely get some opportunities to play.

Notts V League 2's Top Teams
The top teams of League 2 have a far more effective high press and that is our Achilles heel. We need more pace higher up the field (hopefully Jarvis will help with that) as an outlet and we need to make better decisions at the back. Sometimes you just cannot play your way out of trouble and need to put your boot through the ball. I think the Walsall home game highlighted brilliantly our strengths and weaknesses in one game. First half they let us control the ball and they couldnβt get close, second half they made changes and brought much more energy and urgency both on and off the ball which we just couldnβt cope with. A lot of league 1 sides would spot our weakness quite quickly, so we need to find a solution.

Josh Martin: Stay or Go?
Still not convinced that he is worth keeping to be honest. I didnβt see the Cheltenham game but thought he had a steady game against Walsall. I wasnβt impressed with his performance against Swindon and thought he flattered to deceive, a lot of nimble footwork but more often than not he played the simple short ball back rather than attacking and taking on his full back. I doubt we are paying him much but would give him no more than a contract till the end of the season, and I wouldnβt be disappointed if he leaves with Brown in the next week or two, especially if it creates space for a better option up front.
-
Will Jarvis signs
Looks like a really good signing and appears to be comfortable with either foot, but I would say he is predominately right footed @Robbie as from the videos Iβve watched, he mostly shoots with his right and also takes penalties the same. Appears to also be quite sharp and weβve been missing pace up front ever since letting Nemane go.

Cedwyn Scott leaves Notts for Carlisle United
Wish him all the best, and going to work for his old manager might be just the pickup he needs to really get his career going again. Without the injuries Iβm sure we would have has another great striker on our books because he had the game and finishing ability for it. Carlisle could be the right club as Iβm sure he will get the game time, he just needs an early goal. Donβt forget Sam Slocombe is also still at the club, at least until the end of the season.

Match Discussion: Game 25 - The Robins (H)
Looked like an own goal from where Iβm sat. Not complaining ????
-
Match Discussion: Game 22 - The Dons (A)
Iβve also wondered this, and can only think that he is struggling with his health, otherwise he should at least be on the bench. Surely we will be replacing both Martin and Brown in January? Neither have done enough to stay with us. I must admit that after the Salford game I was bemoaning the decisions made by the management in playing 4 players out of position, it just shows what happens when the square pegs end up back in the square holes.
-
Match Discussion: Game 21 - The Bantams (H)
Iβm hopeful of a win tomorrow as long as we donβt concede another sloppy goal as I can see heads dropping. The one thing Iβd like to see: Dan Crowley banned from our third of the pitch and find heβs playing just to the side of Jatta.

Roquefort Wensleydale (with cranberry) Mature Cheddar Danish Blue Bought some Shropshire blue to try this Christmas which is a new one for me. Iβve always Loved a blue cheese, but even more so as Iβve become older.

Kelly Cates to replace Gary Lineker as host of MoTD
I gave up on MOTD years ago, itβs now 70% waffle and 30% football. Much preferred the days when Jimmy Hill was a sole presenter so all we got was extended match highlights of two or three games. Same with the Big Match on ITV, football coverage was a lot simpler and so much better, now itβs a case of just listening to analysis and watching a few very brief highlights.

Match Discussion: Game 20 - The Ammies (A)
14 points from the past 13 games, scoring only 11 goals, sorry to say that we are not in a good position. Inverted wingbacks do not work with league 2 standard players. Jatta is being starved of service because we are obsessed with keeping the ball but doing nothing with it and Notts fans are basically pinning all our hopes now on JJ coming back and hitting the ground running. Crowley comes back and is played out of position, Abbott is moved out of position to accommodate a player playing out of position Thatβs four players played out of position in the game, when they could have all been played in position and been more effective, that is sheer madness!

Match Discussion: Game 20 - The Ammies (A)
There has to be a tipping point when you just have to accept that this coach cannot motivate the team to play. With the players he has had available since being at Notts, a 34% win record is unacceptable. A coach more obsessed with possession than end product, constantly trying to make inverted wingbacks work and trying to make league 2 defenders play like Beckenbauer. Practically the strongest lineup (minus JJ) we can put out and we play like that. Totally unacceptable.

FGR new stadium
Nailed it @DangerousSausage, why replace a perfectly good and hardly used stadium with something completely new, unless youβre feeding your own ego. Government subsidies are obviously paying him well. No matter how many steak bakes you offer me, Iβll not be going to it.

Return of the seven.
Issue weβre going to have is the length of time it will take these players to get back up to full match fitness and also the heavy workload that those left have had to endure as they are also now picking up injuries. I hope we can stay in touch as Januaryβs fixtures look very favourable but our form of 10 points from the last 9 games suggests weβre going to slip away again. The next 3 are massive games now, we simply must get 7 points as we then have to go to MK who are now flying after a horrible start.

League 2 Watch. 2024/25
Current form table, not a great read. Thing to note is that Saturdayβs opponents are currently doing better than I realised.
