  1. I’m with @Super_Danny_Allsopp on this. Very good player by all accounts, but it is in a position we don’t need cover in, unless Ruben is going? If Ruben does go, I would rather he was replaced by a proper number 10 rather than a jack of all trades (no offence to Brunt at all).
  2. Could have been different if they had kept 11 on the pitch but we will never know and I’m not complaining. It was a definite penalty, but I’d like to see the replay as I did not see it as a deliberate handball. As for Wrexham, they were basically a look for set pieces and long throw into the box sort of side and reminded me a lot of a John Beck team (for those with long memories). They got lucky with the goal they scored and never really looked like getting another to be honest, apart from the pen, which was more of an error from Vincent than good play by them. I thought Richardson and Palmer were immense and the rest excellent, it’s bonkers watching Cameron’s ability with the ball at his feet as centre halves aren’t supposed to be able to do that!
  3. Happy new year everyone. I celebrated by getting slightly inebriated at home!
  4. I would say that if it is detrimental to the first XI strength, then call the game off, like all the other promotion contenders have. No point playing the game for the sake of it with a weakened side if it could mean throwing away points. The only reason I can see this going ahead would be for the gate receipt money.
  5. No football for some of that year and hardly any fans for the rest means it could have been a lot worse. Would like to see the accounts for all sides in the division to see how others were affected. Hardy lost us more with supporters money.
  6. They've withdrawn as there is only a 5 day window for the game to take place after postponements. I would say that pretty much guarantees that our game will be off, or they will be forced to play with a depleted squad (not sure what takes precedence). It was only a matter of time, before it trickled down to the lower leagues after the news of premier league clubs postponements, Maidenhead have also withdrawn from the competition for the same reasons.
  7. Pretty fair markings and I agree with @Chrisand @Elite_piethat Vincent was the MOTM. he was all over the place and his energy definitely made us more dynamic until he was burnt out and subbed. He's reminding me a little bit of Andy Hughes after he signed many years ago, raw but infectious. Richardson had a very good debut and looks a quality player. He was under utilised in the first half even though he was available, but we always seemed to choose a different option. He has given us much better balance and I can see him ripping Miller apart at Chesterfield as he can't defend effectively. I would have given the man off the match award to Wootton if he had scored a hat trick, he missed a really good chance early in the first half. and had another good chance later but headed wide.
  8. This does look to be a bit of a coup to be honest. Bit of a weird signing though as we had just signed Parsons for a similar position, unless Brindley has picked up a knock? I can see this as being only for the month loan, in order to give him some game time until the football league transfer window opens up again as he does look to be too good for our level. Maybe we have signed him specifically with the Chesterfield match in mind?
  9. That's quality @Chris I remember that I chose Lundy originally as my profile pic because I always felt he wasn't valued that much by Warnock even though He was such an intelligent footballer and very good in the air. His partnership with Gary Mac was amazing under Mick Walker.
  10. Ruben Rodrigues £250K Kyle Wootton £50K Cal Roberts £125K Richard Brindley £50K Dion Kelly-Evans £20K Based on today's prices and contract status. Looking at the market, nearly all the suitors would be from League 1 and there isn't that much money kicking around, apart from the biggest clubs.
  11. Europe returning to Totalitarianism...…. Certain occupations should be mandatory, but to remove freedom of choice across the board would be unbelievable.
  12. I very much doubt a bid would come in for him much above 50K with the knowledge that he is out of contract in the summer. I'd prefer to keep him for this season and let him go in the summer as he offers more value to the team than the money we'd receive. We won't get promoted without him, he is too important a cog and we would not find a replacement of the same calibre for the money.
  13. I used to take part in pub quizzes a few years ago, but not anymore. I found that they were becoming a bit too competitive after they were only originally done for fun. We used to win our fair share back in the day, but then you started to see serious teams forming just to win the (not that generous) prizes, so we gave up as it stopped being fun.
  14. @Pie since 89 we were in the top flight at the time the plans went in, so I can understand the reasoning for DP to create a 20000 all seater stadium as it would have been a similar size to the old one and I seem to think that there was talk at the time of 20K being introduced as the minimum capacity allowed. I was a little baffled reading this thread with members that haven't been active for ages and then I clocked the date of the posts!
  15. Unfortunate result, but if I had to pick, it would have been to get knocked out after 90 minutes than have to play extra time and penalties. Priority is the league and I wouldn't want those extra minutes to mean that we lose on Saturday.
  16. It was more of a reference to his ridiculous 6ft 9inch size than footballing ability and Wootton handled him brilliantly, he just bullied him to the point that he never looked like scoring.
  17. Great game to watch from our perspective and the result was never really in doubt once we went in front, even with Solihull bringing on a basketball player in the second half! I thought everyone played well, although it took a while for Palmer and Roberts to get into the game and Chicksen made a couple of positional errors. Our first goal was pretty special, brilliant through ball, great cross and excellent finish. Also good to see Mitchell get his first league goal which he took well.
  18. Personally thought he was very average and was a bit lost without a dominant centre half alongside him. I wish him well, but I would seriously doubt he will be good enough long term for Wednesday, especially seeing as he is already 21. He will get better as he gets older, but might need to take a step down to achieve what he wants.
  19. League two sides shouldn't hold any fear from us, in fact it looks as though there are probably at least half a dozen sides that would be comfortable in that league. Keep it tight at the back and nick a goal up the other end. Only downside of a good cup run from what I can see is that we would be putting our players in the shop window.
  20. I'm confident that if we can keep the squad and especially Cameron fit, then we will be strong enough to crack the top 3 again. We need a goalscorer, Roberts to find his form and Ruben to carry on what he is doing up front. If we have to cover injuries, do it with experienced loanees, rather than kids. I don't think the fixtures coming up are any harder than the ones we have had, plus we haven't played the bottom 4/5 in the division yet and as I mentioned the other day, without injuries to Cameron and Rawlinson, I think we would be top or very near to it. I'm looking for us to be around 4th in the table by the halfway point and hopefully still within 5 points of the top position. Strngthen a couple of positions for the second half of the season and have a real crack at finishing top. The key will be if the Burchnall football will still be as effective on the heavy winter pitches.
  21. That would be utter madness on our part!
  22. The accident statistic always leaves me shaking my head, as all it will mean is that the shift will move to mornings, especially with kids having to go to school in the dark. At least the current system leaves most children travelling to and from school in daylight hours. That hour in winter makes very little difference. Personally I'm not too fussed either way, but would be definitely in favour of having a double summer time (like they had for the 2nd World War) during the months May to August in order to maximise daylight hours in the summer.
  23. Excellent win against my second team. Looking at comments made by home and away supporters, I think they could well end up being the team to beat in the league this year as they were missing several players. Our recent upturn in form has so much to do with the Rawlinson and Cameron (especially Cameron) partnership and just shows what we were missing against Woking Halifax and Altrincham. Frustrating as we could be top of the table if they hadn't got injured, or we had signed an experienced loanee to play alongside Lacey.
  24. Would that be the old Magpies pub on Daleside Road? I used to go in there before home games as it was just at the end of Meadow Lane. The site is now a KFC & Harley Davidson garage.
