  1. Kevin Nolan has spoken about Notts County duo Lewis Alessandra and Will Patching, praising the former and providing an update on the latter. The 29-year-old attacker scored against Basford and Leicester City and is pushing for a start in the League Two opener against Colchester United. Manchester City academy product Patching, meanwhile, made his debut for the Magpies at the weekend when he came on as a substitute in the 2-0 defeat at Luton Town. “Lewi is just a quality player, a quality lad and a good kid,” Nolan told the Nottingham Post. “He is lovely to be around and is great on the training ground. “The lads we have brought in have taken him to new levels which is good.” As for Patching, he said: “It’s going to take him a while to get up to speed. He is way behind the lads, but he is training fully now with the boys. “He got 15 to 20 minutes on Saturday and he will now be playing in a game on Tuesday to get his minutes up. “But I think we will be seeing him in the League Cup game when we can get him extra minutes and get him in a proper competitive game.” Share your thoughts about this news story on Pride of Nottingham by signing up to the website, visiting the forum and joining in the chat with hundreds of fellow Notts County fans. 2. Kevin Nolan has admitted that some people at Manchester City were surprised to see Will Patching get released. The former England youth international is now at Notts County, who had seen off numerous clubs for his signature. Luckily for the Magpies, Patching shares the same agent as Tom Crawford, who is also at Meadow Lane having joined from Chester FC. “When we spoke to a couple of people at Man City they were surprised Will had been released,” Nolan told the Nottingham Post. “They thought he would be given another year and he also had a few offers to go to higher clubs as did Tom Crawford. “But it was quite funny because Tom’s agent is the same as Will’s. “He thought Notts could be the right fit for Will because it’s men’s football. “I am really looking forward to working with him.” Share your thoughts about this news story on Pride of Nottingham by signing up to the website, visiting the forum and joining in the chat with hundreds of fellow Notts County fans. 3. Notts County have announced the signing of Manchester City academy midfielder Will Patching once his contract at the Etihad expires on July 1. The 19-year-old, who has been with the Premier League champions since the under-six age group, has agreed a two-year deal at Meadow Lane. “I’ve never had an experience like this before,” Patching told the official Notts site. “I’m looking forward to it. “I love having the ball at my feet and I can chip in with assists and like scoring goals, but I can play in a deeper holding position as well. I enjoy set pieces, too. I do a lot of work on them so hopefully I can score a few here. “I can’t wait to work under Kevin Nolan. He’s got good attributes as a manager and he played in my position, so he can help me with a lot of things I need to work on. Hopefully I can go on to have a career like his.” Share your thoughts about this news story on Pride of Nottingham by signing up to the website, visiting the forum and joining in the chat with hundreds of fellow Notts County fans.
