Yeovil - Scout Report

By Chris, in News,

Yeovil Town come into the game only having scored two goals in their last six games, a run of 4 defeats and two draws shows the lack of form by last years Championship struggler’s. However, they cannot be written off because of this as fortunes frequently change.

On the 8th of November Yeovil beat Crawley Town in the F.A Cup at home by one goal to nil. The last time they won in the league was back in September against Peterborough.
League wise The Glovers haven't scored since the 18th of October and the last time they scored more than just one goal was back on the 6th of September, they beat Bradford 3-1 away from home.

Run down of their last six games.
Saturday 11th October 2014 – Port Vale 4 Yeovil Town 1
Saturday 18th October 2014 – Yeovil Town 1 Swindon Town 1
Tuesday 21st October 2014 – Sheffield United 2 Yeovil Town 0
Saturday 25th October 2014 – Yeovil Town 0 Rochdale 3
Saturday 1st November 2014 – Chesterfield 0 Yeovil Town 0
Saturday 15th November 2014 – Yeovil Town 0 Fleetwood Town 1

The Players – Fact Sheet
Highest Goal Scorers; James Hayter 2, Kieffer Moore 2, Joel Grant 1 and Simon Gillett 1.
Persistent Foulers; Ben Nugent 1 Red Card and 5 Yellow Cards, Kevin Dawson 4 Yellow Cards and Ofori-Twumasi 1 Red Card.

The Key Players.
Brendan Moloney, Kevin Dawson, Sam Foley and Joel Grant.
The former Notts loanee Brendan Moloney will be a key player for Yeovil both defending and attacking, whilst on their day Kevin Dawson, Sam Foley and Joel Grant can all cause headaches for their opposition counterparts.
Joel Grant is particularly good at pulling the strings and getting involved in attacking play.
Sam Foley is a player Notts will need to be aware of as he can allude attention and quickly find space to pose a threat to any defence, he also has an eye for goal.
Notts will be best falling back to the typical 4-4-2 formation or 3-5-2 with at least two of the midfielders providing cover at the back. This will counter measure Yeovil and prevent them from breaking freely, Haydn Hollis and whoever partners him must be aware of the threat of pace, whilst also being sure to deal with the task from crosses.

Style of Play, Strengths, and Weaknesses.
Quick, direct and rely heavily on the spaces created on the flanks. Yeovil Town like to drill or float crosses into the penalty area where they are a threat. Many of the chances that have been created in previous games have come from set pieces or crosses, whilst the direct dynamic play allows them to attack with speed.
Their ability to get crosses in towards tall players is their main strength.
Yet Yeovil Town can break down sides with their smooth, possession passing which when watching would leave you questioning as to why they're bottom of the League One table.
They generally zonal mark teams, packing multiple players onto a single player which leaves them open and disorganized at the back. When hit with pace themselves, Yeovil drop off creating space in front which limits chances for opposition sides, yet presents chances whereby crosses or long distance efforts leave their players rooted.
Their lack of clinical finishing, sees good chances often wasted.
Yeovil are particularly weak themselves when dealing with set pieces and crosses, if the balls are direct enough players committed to runs will get into them.

Is all really lost?

By Chris, in News,

The F.A Cup is a major opportunity lost by exiting in the first round. It's the perfect opportunity to spread a little cheer among the fan base, gather results and of course add money to the coffers. All things which Notts County could all do with in abundance.

Everybody always looks forward to the trips away, whilst the possibility of gracing a top tier team at Meadow lane – but is all really lost? I don't believe it is.

Notts currently sit 4th within the 2014/2015 League One campaign, it's only just past mid November and after last season exiting the F.A Cup doesn't seem all that bad at all.
We've all wanted a squad that plays for the shirt, that extra pride which the players put in goes along way and it's part of the reason why we are currently doing so well within the league. Don't get me wrong, I am disappointed but in comparison we have a bigger picture to face.

On Saturday Notts get back to League One football, a win at Meadow Lane would be the perfect way to respond to struggling Yeovil Town.
If we won, we could perhaps move to 3rd depending on how Preston do against Bristol City.
We still have a game in hand over both Preston and Swindon, it might also allow us to gain space over Sheffield United who have played exactly the same amount of games as us at 16 and we share the same amount of points, 29.
Sheffield United face Oldham on the 22nd of November 2014, neither side are really scoring or winning by many goals and I see this ending as a draw but perhaps Oldham could do us a favour?

Our very next game after Yeovil Town is actually Sheffield United, there's no better time to be playing them.
Our current form is actually very impressive, the odd blip here and there but the squad are battling.
You would certainly call this progress compared to last season right? It's for this reason why I have put aside my disappointment and decided to remain optimistic.
I wrote a blog before things started to click that I felt Notts were on the verge of something special, I really feel that this could be the season whereby we make the play-offs and dare I say it gain promotion? Don't we all dream of this? Time is now to try and make that difference.
We have a tough run of fixtures – Sheffield United (a), Swindon (h), Rochdale (a), MK Dons (H) and Bradford (a).
It doesn't get any easier at the very start of the new year, however I feel we can get some very respectable results. In the row of five games, I would hope we could at least take 9 to 11 points. It might be more like 7, yet I believe we can win more than two of the five.

No matter what you feel, let's focus on seeing where we are come the end of December.
Let's get straight back behind the lads, fill the stands on Saturday with encourage and just have a crack at this the right way.

The only way, the BLACK & WHITE WAY! YOU PIES!!

The Match Officials

By Chris, in News,

Saturday 22th of November, Notts County return to Meadow Lane against Yeovil Town. Notts are currently the inform team, however the squad will have to put the F.A Cup exit by Accrington to the back of their minds and focus on progressing further in League One.

Youth Team Report

By Northants Pie, in News,

The last week has proved to be a disappointing one for the young lads of the youth team, firstly they were knocked out of the FA Cup by Peterborough 2-0 with a lackluster performance, then just as they thought they could put that performance behind them with a quick return in the league last Saturday against Mansfield Town the game was called off.

FA Cup Report
Peterborough 2 - 0 Notts County
Peterborough ran out comfortable winners, in truth it could and should have been a lot worse save for the performance of the two central defenders Thomas Rigby & Keenan Layton who did their utmost to repel the near constant pressure and attacking threat shown by Peterborough with both drawing constant praise from the Premiership scouts in attendance.
Our midfield department was not at it's best but our lack of pace, mobility & tactical awareness in the holding role allowed Peterborough's midfield far too much room which caused our central defenders problems all game. It was testament to the strong performance of the central defence that Monty Parkes in goal didn't have too much to do, what he did have to do he did very well apart from their second goal where he was caught flat footed, he had no chance with the first goal as the Peterborough No 9 Jonathon Edwards calmly finished into the bottom corner.
Aside from a brief 15 minute spell at the start of the second half where our right back Jordon Richards hit the post with a well struck shot from 25 yards out, the entirety of the game was played out around our own 18 yard line.
Colby Bishop had no chance to affect the game as he was dropping deeper & deeper into midfield to try and get the ball, when we did get the ball up to him it was usually through a long clearance which gave him little chance to control the ball, when he did flick the ball on there was no-one there to get on the ball.
All in all it was a disappointing way to go out of the FA Cup.
Next up for the lads is a league game against Grimsby Town FC at the Eagle Valley Stadium, which is the usual 11am kick off.
The updated league table can be found here.
A copy of the team sheet for the FA Cup can be found here.

Oh dear. After being on such a high for the majority of the season so far, the FA Cup has sent us right back down to earth. Accrington Stanley... who are they? Well, they're the League Two team that knocked us out of the competition at the first hurdle (well, the second attempt at the first hurdle).
After the goalless draw at Meadow Lane, it was going to be a somewhat tricky proposition travelling up to the Crown Ground on a cold Tuesday night, but there was always the feeling that County's superior class would shine through. Not so.
Granted, Shaun Derry's charges had a fairly good start when Michael Petrasso had a chance early on, which cleared the bar, and it wasn't long before Notts took the lead.
Garry Thompson did well to thread the ball to the feet of Ronan Murray while under pressure in the box, and the Irishman struck a good finish across goalkeeper Jack Rose.
Soon enough, the hosts countered through Andrew Proctor, who powered into the box but was put off by Taylor McKenzie, ensuring that the shot would bobble wide of the post.
Rob Atkinson and Shay McCartan added to the pressure when they also threatened Roy Carroll's goal, but on the flipside, Notts were denied a penalty when Thompson was caught by Rose, with the referee giving just a corner.
Just as it seemed like the Magpies were going to take a lead into the break, Luke Joyce crept into the box and powered a free header into the goal to give his side the equaliser.
And just four minutes after the restart, Stanley were in the lead when Marcus Carver floated a ball above Carroll and into the net from the edge of the area.
Substitute Jake Cassidy came close to pulling Notts back when his shot cannonned off the the bar, but despite the visitors trying to desperately claw a goal back, it wasn't to be, and as the referee's whistle signalled the end of the game, the Magpies were out of the FA Cup.

Tuesday evening will see Notts County travel to Accrington Stanley in a bid to progress to the second round of the FA Cup.

Failure to beat John Coleman's charges at Meadow Lane on Sunday 9 November means that the Magpies have a replay on their hands, the original game finishing goalless.
For Stanley, loanees John O'Sullivan and Sean Maguire will not be eligible to play in the FA Cup first-round replay.
Blackburn Rovers midfielder O'Sullivan and West Ham United striker Maguire have not been granted permission to play in this competition, so Josh Windass and James Gray are in contention to feature at the Crown Ground.
Full-back Adam Buxton and midfielder Anthony Barry are both back in training for Stanley, but Tuesday's fixture may still be too soon for them.
Stanley have failed to score in either of their last two fixtures, with manager John Coleman suggesting he may need to make some changes in his line-up.
For Notts, goalkeeper Roy Carroll is set to play his third game in five days, after he lined up between the sticks for Northern Ireland in Romania on Friday night before his frankly legendary feat of heading back to England - on about three hours' sleep - to feature in Saturday's League One win at Coventry City.
Mustapha Dumbuya and Mike Petrasso are still away on international duty with Sierra Leone and Canada respectively, so they won't feature (let's not be too harsh on them, given Carroll's audacious precedent being set!).
Loan signing Stephen McLaughlin is again cup-tied, while Louis Laing, Jake Cassidy and Hayden Mullins are struggling with injuries.
The winners of the tie will be at home to Yeovil Town in round two.

On The Table

By Chris, in News,

Pride of Nottingham returns with it's 'On The Table' feature, each fortnight we will focus on how the League One table has changed, which teams have made the most movement and their results. We have witnessed some jumps, as we ourselves move up to 4th after defeating Coventry.

However, Bristol City firmly remained glued to the top of the division but other teams around have fallen and risen. Let's see how they compare to where they previously stood!

As mentioned Bristol City stand tall at the very top, with 17 games played they have 36 points yet they lost 1-0 away to Swindon Town on the 15th of November.
With Swindon's win to the League One leaders, Swindon have moved from 3rd to 2nd place, as Preston North End drop back inside the play-offs. Preston lost 2-1 at home to Bradford City, a Joe Garner equalizer was cancelled out a minute after Bradford's Mark Yeates scored in the 86' minute.
Notts County enjoyed a narrow 1-0 win over Coventry City to move up to 4th.
Sheffield United once again moved back within the play-offs, they jumped up from 8th to 5th after beating Doncaster Rovers 1-0 away from home.
MK Don's drop from 4th to 6th after their game against Scunthorpe United was postponed. Peterborough United remain 7th, they haven't moved despite drawing 0-0 to Walsall at the Bescot Stadium.
Rochdale also drop down by 3 places, they move from 5th to 8th after losing 1-0 away to Port Vale. Oldham remain 9th, they also haven't moved after drawing 1-1 to Crawley. Whilst Fleetwood Town have also remained at 10th despite defeating League One struggler’s Yeovil 1-0 away from home.
Barnsley enjoyed a 3-2 goal rush against Colchester at home, they also remain in the same position and stand respectfully at 11th.
Port Vale move up from 13th to 12th, whilst Bradford City also move up a single place from 14th to 13th. Chesterfield drop from 12th to 14th after drawing 0-0 away from home to Crewe Alexandra. Crawley remain at 15th, they drew to Oldham 0-0.
Walsall remain 16th, whilst Doncaster Rovers also remain 17th and Colchester United are also unmoved, they sit at 18th. Gillingham jumped from 22nd to 19th after defeating Leyton Orient 3-2 at home. Leyton Orient scored a penalty in the 48' minute, only to see a double strike by Leon Legge first on the 55' minute and then on the 74' minute. Chris Dagnal equalized for Orient around the 90' minute mark only to see his goal cancelled by Cody McDonald.
Coventry drop one place from 19th to 20th, just one place away from the relegation zone. Due to the defeat at the hands of Gillingham, Leyton Orient drop down from 20th to 21st.
Scunthorpe United also move a place down from 21st to 22nd however their game against Play-Off contenders MK Dons was postponed. Crewe who was glued to the bottom of the division for considerable amount of time have seen their form turn around, some big wins have seen them move from 24th to 23rd and on the 15th of November they drew at home to Chesterfield 0-0.
Yeovil who lived the dream of playing in the Championship last season, are pinned to the bottom of the League One table. Their 1-0 defeat to Fleetwood signals a change in fortune for the once former regular mid table side.

Carroll Plays Twice In 24 Hours

By Chris, in News,

Yesterday Notts fans both across the world and at the Ricoh Arena where surprised to see the addition of Roy Carroll to the starting line up. He achieved the unexpected by making his way to the stadium in time to pass a fitness test and to report to the management team.

He had featured in Northern Ireland's 2-0 defeat to the hands Romania on the 14th,, however not put off or wanting time to relax. Roy proceeded to make his way to Coventry in time to be selected.
The 37 year old, managed to get all the way to Coventry in time to replace Fabian Spiess who was expected to start.

Roy Carroll the replacement for Bartosz Bialkowski, caught a flight from Romania to London's Heathrow Airport at 7am. The veteran keeper than collected his car, drove up the motorway to the Ricoh Arena and reported to the Notts County coaches and manager Shaun Derry declaring himself fit to play.
Notts chairman Ray Trew praised the dedication of Roy Carroll by saying, “Shaun Derry spoke of his desire to get the right sorts of player in this season and I think what Roy has done for this club today shows exactly what the Manager meant.”
Ray told the official site “These guys have put their bodies on the line and challenged for every ball in every match this season and we have reaped the rewards, so whilst I would like to praise every player who took to the field this afternoon, I have to reserve special praise for Roy because I know what it meant to me, but more so I know what it meant to our supporters and he has my heartfelt thanks for what he has done”.
At 37, it's quite the achievement to feature internationally for any nation which speaks alone. However, to play two games in two days it says a lot about the desire and dedication to feature as part of the cause to the side he's quickly emerging as the “signing of the season”.
Notts secured victory over Coventry when Garry Thompson netted the winner and only goal in the 72' minute – Full Match Report Here.
Joe Jones
Today's game between Notts County and Coventry City is bound to go down in Magpie history. Not so much for the result, a solid 1-0 win to the visitors achieved thanks to a Garry Thompson goal in the second half, but for the actions of one of the team members.

Roy Carroll played for Northern Ireland in a Euro 2016 qualifier against Romania in Bucharest, keeping the score down as his nation was defeated 2-0 and getting the Man of the Match award.

Nobody would have expected Carroll to turn out for Notts today, given that he would have had to catch a flight from Romania back to the UK and make his way to Coventry in the space of about 15 hours.
However, this is just what he did - according to BBC Radio Nottingham's Colin Slater, Carroll caught a flight from the Romanian capital to London Heathrow airport at 7am local time (Romania's two hours ahead).
The veteran stopper is then said to have collected his car and driven up the motorway to the Ricoh Arena in Coventry, before reporting to Magpies manager Shaun Derry and declaring that he was fit to play.

The Sky Blues surely would have been shocked at the team announcement, which shows commitment and determination of the absolute highest level - not to mention the boost it would have handed Notts and the travelling fans.
That said, the first effort of the game fell to the home side, Adam Barton slicing a low shot wide in the second minute.
The game proved scrappy in the opening stages, but come the quarter-hour mark, the action started coming, with Haydn Hollis forcing a good block and Stephen McLaughlin seeing his deflected shot saved.
The best chance of the first half fell to Notts when Mike Edwards’s header was cleared off the line by Aaron Phillips in the 29th minute.
Carroll was feared injured when Phillips clattered into him towards the end of the half, the stopper struggling to walk off the field after the whistle went, but he was good to go into the second half.
The Northern Ireland man had to be alert to punch away a James O'Brien corner, while moments later, Jack Finch blasted a long-range effort that flew just over.
Coventry seemed to grow into the game and continued to threaten, but the deadlock was to be broken by the visitors, Thompson racing through on goal in the 72nd minute before chipping a ball over goalkeeper Ryan Allsop and into the net.
With two minutes left of the game, the Sky Blues felt they should have had a penalty when Hollis looked to have fouled Gary Madine, but referee Michael Bull waved away the appeals.
Ultimately, the final whistle blew to confirm an excellent away victory - buoyed by the Notts performance and Carroll's titanic effort to get back in time to play for his club - which sees the Magpies climb to fourth in the table.

There haven’t been many fixtures between Notts County and Coventry City, in all fairness: just 36 in the last 94 years. The first took place on the 6th November 1920, the Meadow Lane match ending in a 1-1 draw.

There have plenty of high-scoring games between the two, with several 5-1s, 3-0s and 4-2s over the years.

Notts County have the upper hand in the head-to-heads – 18 victories over the Sky Blues, 11 defeats and 7 draws.
Our last fixture was on the 8th Feb 2014, which ended in a resounding 3-0 league win for the Magpies.
In 2001, Coventry were relegated from the Premier League after 34 years in the first tier. At the time, only Liverpool, Everton and Arsenal could boast longer tenures in the top flight.
In 2012, Coventry were relegated to the third tier in English Football for the first time in 48 years.

Coventry’s new stadium, the 32,609-capacity Ricoh Arena, was opened in August 2005, but following a rent dispute with the ground's owners the club opted to play their home games at Northampton Town's Sixfields Stadium starting in the 2013–14 season, a move which didn’t prove popular with Sky Blues fans.

On 21 August 2014, it was announced an agreement had been reached allowing the club to return to the Ricoh Arena for the next two years with the option of another two years.
The club’s proudest moment was undoubtedly the 1987 FA Cup final at Wembley, which was won by the Sky Blues after an enthralling 3-2 win after two hours of football.
Following Tottenham Hotspur player Gary Mabbutt’s own goal in extra time, which set Coventry on the way to their win, a fanzine was created called GMK – Gary Mabbutt’s Knee!
---
Coventry defender Aaron Martin is available after being cup-tied for the midweek win over Plymouth Argyle.
Skipper Reda Johnson could be included after playing in Benin's 6-1 loss to Morocco on Thursday, but will not be back in England until Friday night.
Notts are without captain Hayden Mullins, who hurt his calf in his comeback against Accrington Stanley last week.
Goalkeeper Roy Carroll, defender Mustapha Dumbuya and winger Michael Petrasso are all on international duty.

Q/A with Ray Trew #2

By Chris, in Media,

Once again Mr Trew's taken time out of his busy schedule to answer questions asked by our community here at Pride of Nottingham. It was July 2013 the last time we put a series of questions to the chairman of Notts County Football Club.

Several members of the community took to ask questions, we asked everyone to help select which questions should be put to Mr Trew and here we are.

Question asked by WeymouthPIE; How happy are you with the current position of the club on and off the field? Is it in the position you expected or hoped it would be in at this point when you first took over?
To be honest and frank after the promotion in 2010 i thought we would sail through league 1 and become a championship side. However, i had a rude awakening but i have never lost site of this dream. I am more than happy with the progress this season and i dont mind admitting that its shows to me that there is no correlation between monies spent and success. This season and its no secret i cut the playing budget considerably but we now probably for the first time since my take-over i have a management team who believe in what we are trying to achieve and are happy to work with the budget given to them.

Question asked by hissingdwarf; Do you think the artificial pitch is the way to go? Have you consulted the players on their feelings?
I can say that at the Chairmans Conference is Cyprus in 2011 we were one of the clubs who proposed this. Unfortunately at that time it got voted down. We did this because it was apparent to all the damage the surface suffered from the Rugby. Now we have reached agreement with the Rugby to vacate Meadow Lane then need to 3G or 4G is much less. I am still personally in favour of lower league clubs playing on this surface because the risk of getting Winter games called off is few and far between.

Question asked by Northants Pie; If you could do one thing for the betterment of football in general what would it be? More particularly the football league?
Simply change the way the voting mechanism works. We currently have a system in the FL that even if you had both League 1 and League 2 voting in favour of change if the Championship voted against it, it would fail. I personally think the voting system is outdated and at the determent o football in general. It should be one team one vote in my opinion.

Question asked by Canadian; What is your outlook for the next 3 seasons. Is the aim to reach the Championship?
I think with our management team the club is in safe hands and we are building slowly for the future. The ambition and aim is to have Notts playing year in year out in the Championship that goal has never changed.

Question asked by PTID1862; How does FFP affect both the club and yourself?... are the club currently within the rules without additional revenue injection?
We manage to work with FFP only because the cash i inject into the football club. These monies are not allowed to be put in as loans but have to be Capital. Unfortunately, without someone injecting cash each season the club could not work with FFP simply because the expenditure is greater than our income.

Question asked by Cobby; What do you attribute Derry and Abbott's current success to when compared with previous managers?
This is a very good question which i have to say i have given a lot of thought to. In my opinion the important aspect for them is team spirit and players having the right attitude. We have been offered and had the ability to sign some what i would regard as Top Players at this level but they would not sign them because in there opinion they didn’t have the right attitude. ITs ironic and i have covered this off in a previous response but it highlight to me that there is no correlation between monies spent and success.

Question asked by hissingdwarf; Out of all the players purchased, which has been the worst purchase and which was the 'one that got away' that you regret the most missing out on?
I am not going to talk about specific individuals and i am sure i dont need to mention names because we all know who they are. With regard players we have missed out on there have been a number which i scout identified but the manager in situ at the time didn’t fancy for one reason or another. A number of these players have gone on to play in the Championship and Premier League and what is more sickening for me, been sold for vast sums.

Question asked by TonyHateley; What has been your greatest regret since becoming the owner of Notts County FC?
Quite simply the number of managers i have gone through. My biggest problem was i wanted immediate success and if a manger didn’t deliver this then i was trigger happy. I decided when i hired Shaun and Greg that even if we were relegated i would have stuck wight hem because believe in what they are trying to achieve.

Question asked by Dripsey3; Do you have sleepless nights thinking about the amount of money it will cost to compete in the Championship if we get promoted? Did you know that the Championship is the 6th highest spending league in Europe? Are you sweating yet?
Surprisingly not. Notts work better as a business in League 2 and the Championship. We are fortunate geographically if we were able to get into the Championship that we would have a number of packed house in many games because there are so many Midlands Clubs playing in it. In addition next season Championship Clubs get from memory another £3million a season from the PL so as a business model is works better than League 1.

Question asked by liampie; I would like to know if there is any more plans to develop meadow lane further and if not, does that means you're happy with the ground?
We have had plans drawn up now for just over 2 years on the development of the Family Stand. When i feel the time is right we will push the button on this project.

Question asked by Cobby; Thankfully Greg Dyke's proposals (i.e. B TeamS) to "help" the English football fell of deaf ears. What were your thoughts on his proposals and do you think there is a way the FA could help the English game while also benefiting lower league teams?
In short no. We now live in a era where you have the tail (i.e The Premier League) wagging the dog until they lose some of there power within the game nothing will ever change

Question asked by Notts-Joe; Can you tell us anything new regarding the progress of Jimmy Spencer? I heard that the club have paid for some expensive equipment which will hopefully help in return and news regarding him returning to light training. Can you shed any light on this and Jimmy?
Yes we have invested in some new equipment to assist with many injuries. Jimmy has made use of this equipment and his rehabilitation is now much more advanced. We are hoping if this progress continues he will feature before the end of this campaign. My personal opinion for what its worth and this is not to say the people filling his boots have not done well but if we had him playing this season we would be much higher up the table and close on the heels of Bristol City.
----------------------------------------

Extra question
Question from TonyHateley's six year old Grandson George: My Grandad says you bought Notts County for a pound, the tooth fairy gave me £2 last week can I buy it off you?
Its very easy to buy a football club but its no so easy maintaining one. Whilst i may have brought it for a pound i have spent over £18million to date either in direct cash or through sponsorships directly and indirectly by companies under my control.

Youth Team Report

By Northants Pie, in News,

Ahead of our new weekly update on how the potential future of Notts County is progressing we are going to have a recap on how the season has started so far.

The youth team play their matches within the Football League Youth Alliance U18 North East division, the league consists of the following 13 teams.

Bradford City - Burton Albion - Chesterfield - Doncaster Rovers - Grimsby Town - Hartlepool United - Hull City - Lincoln City - Mansfield Town - Notts County - Rotherham United - Scunthorpe United - York City.
We currently sit in 5th place in the league with 14 points from 9 games, a link to the full league table can be found here
There are two separate cup competitions, one being the Football League Youth Alliance Cup, the other being the FA Youth Cup. Unfortunately we were knocked out in the first round of the Youth Alliance Cup on penalties 8-7 to Burton Albion after the game finished 1-1.
We have been drawn against Peterborough United in the first round of the FA Youth Cup with this game being played tonight 12/11/2014 at London Road, details of this can be found here along with Head of Academy Coaching Mick Halsall's thoughts on the game.

The latest Youth Alliance league game was played at the Eagle Valley stadium on Saturday the 8th November, we came out on top of the five goal thriller with a 3-2 victory against Bradford City, Ben Browne opened the scoring for us with Bradford City replying shortly afterwards, highly rated striker Colby Bishop soon put us back in front from the penalty spot, once again though Bradford city equalised just before the interval, we won the game in the second half through Rhys Myers who scored with a powerful header from a set piece straight from the training pitch.
Mick Halsall commented on the performance saying "Bradford City are one of the leagues better sides, but we competed well against the physical unit and earnt an important win, the lads attitude and desire to work shone through. They always give 100%"
Next up for lads in the league is Mansfield away on the 15th November, once again we are in action tonight against Peterborough United in the FA Youth Cup at London Road with a 7pm kick off, ticket details can be found here.

After the good times of the last few weeks, Notts have been brought crashing back down to earth, first with a defeat against Walsall that confirmed the end of our unbeaten run, and now an underwhelming 0-0 draw against lower-league opposition in the FA Cup.

The draw means that we'll have to travel up to Accrington in a week's time, in what will be a difficult and tricky tie - we really should have killed it off today when we had the chance.

Shay McCartan had the first chance of the game when he volleyed wide from a poor Roy Carroll clearance, before marauding forward into the final third later on and causing problems.
Notts did pick up as the game went on, with Gary Jones making some good runs from midfield before trying his luck with a powerful drive that flew wide of the post.
Josh Windass then caused problems in the 22nd minute when he fired over, but moments later, it was Notts's turn to threaten, Ronan Murray volleying just wide.
The Magpies continued working their way into the game, with another Murray effort and a Michael Petrasso drive threatening to break the deadlock for the home side.
Little else of note happened in the latter stages of the first half, and after the restart, it seemed like it was going to be more of the same.
Early on, Andrew Procter appeared to have brought down Murray, but the referee was not interested in giving a penalty.
Then, Garry Thompson picked out Murray in the box, but the Irishman's subsequent shot towards into bottom corner drew a good block from Tom Aldred.
As time ticked by, with little separating the two sides, Stanley began to push forward and won several corners themselves, but to little avail.
Thompson then had the chance to win it in stoppage time, but his effort curled just wide, ensuring that the result would be 0-0 and force Shaun Derry's side to travel to Accrington next Tuesday.

Notts County have only played Accrington Stanley 11 times in their history. The first fixtures were in August and December 1958, when both sides played in Division Three. The Magpies drew 1-1 in the first match, before losing 3-0 in the second.

A hiatus of 48 years followed before the teams met again in the fourth tier, now called League Two, on 9 September 2006. The result was a 3-2 win to Notts.

The last fixture between the two was in the FA Cup, with Notts thrashing Stanley 4-1 at Meadow Lane in November 2011.
The original town's team, Accrington, were amongst the twelve founder members of the Football League in 1888, before resigning from the league after just five years.
A team called Stanley Villa already existed at the time, named as such because they were based at the Stanley Arms on Stanley Street in Accrington. With the demise of Accrington, Stanley Villa took the town name to become Accrington Stanley.
The club re-formed after World War I and entered the League in 1921 with the formation of the old Third Division North, along with the other top northern non-League clubs.
This original incarnation was dissolved in 1966, before re-emerging two years later. In 2005–06, Stanley won the Football Conference and were promoted to League Two.
Ironically, Oxford United, the team they switched places with, was the team that had been elected to replace the former Accrington Stanley as members of the Football League in 1962 when they were struggling with debt.
Accrington Stanley is perhaps most well known for being discussed in a late 1980s advert by the Milk Marketing Board (for all you younger viewers, Ian Rush was one of the greatest strikers of his day, and Liverpool's all-time leading goalscorer).

Famous people from Accrington include Vicky Entwhistle and Julie Hesmondhalgh from Coronation Street, Yes singer Jon Anderson, cricketer Mike Atherton, Diana Vickers from X Factor, and Mystic Meg.
---
Mike Edwards is expected to continue to deputise for defender Louis Laing, who is out with a dead leg.
Laing's fellow Nottingham Forest loanee Stephen McLaughlin is unavailable as the Reds do not want him cup-tied.
Midfielder Craig Roddan and goalkeeper Jack Rose are in the Accrington squad after signing on Friday.
Winger Kai Naismith returns after a spell on compassionate leave, while defender Nicky Hunt is suspended and midfielder Anthony Barry injured.
