Comedy then and now: is dark humour taking over?

Recently, whilst watching YouTube a lot of old comedy shows and comedians have been appearing in my video list. One of which is Tommy Cooper. I don't watch a lot of comedians these days; I just don't find them as funny.

There are a lot of good comedians out there, but they are completely different.

Peter Kay is one of the few who reminds me of the classic style, as these days it seems more about quick wit,Β sarcasm, irony, deepen, black and dark humour,Β controversial one-liners etc.

I used to enjoy watching Jack Dee and I think Russell Howard is one of the best currently. I just miss the family style entertainer, I suppose. The UK used to have many who could be silly, bring laughter but in a way that was wholesome.

i used to love watching the comedy panel shows but they have become very repetitive and usually quite mean spirited, i get the harmless poking of fun at each other but some can go too far just for a laugh.

i also like watching russell howard, i think he pokes fun of things in a humorous and down to earth way.

tommy cooper was a very funny act, a bit like ken dodd. so many greats from those days.
