Sheffield Football Club is an English football club from Dronfield, North East Derbyshire. They currently compete in the Northern Premier League Division One East, on the eighth level of the English football pyramid. Founded in October 1857, the club is recognised by FIFA as the oldest existing club still playing football in the world. Sheffield F.C. initially played games under the Sheffield Rules and did not officially adopt the new FA rules until 1878.

This was the first ever inter-club football match and it's a bit of a shame we don't make more of it. Darrin Foss writes a lot about this period in his book Notts County FC and the Birth of Modenr Football. Highly recommended.

They were a regular feature on our fixture list until the 1880s, by which time Notts and other clubs (allegedly) had professional footballers on their books while Sheffield remained staunchly amateur. As a result, Sheffield fell behind and were drubbed in the teams' last meetings. It would be great to revive this fixture as a pre-season friendly. With them planning to open their new stadium next season, it could be the perfect time.
