Discipline

Featured Replies

It seems we have a problem with discipline, according to Patterson we’ve had 5 red cards this season, god knows how many yellows, I believe this is costing us. Yes we need to be hard and aggressive and not let teams bully us but it needs to be controlled.

We especially need to cut out yellow cards for petulance, what do others think?

It looks and sounds horrendous but we seem to be punished for petulance whilst opponents get away, unpunished, with thuggery. There is some mitigation, in my view, particularly in recent games.

Norburn was, arguably, an tad unlucky v C’field, his 1st yellow seemed harsh and he was fouled himself a few seconds prior to his challenge. The “boot” business was daft & he should have been more careful, given his card. Tonight, he was just irresponsible and incredibly dim.

Ndlovu’s red was ludicrous, simply a dreadful decision. Both players had their foot in the air challenging for the ball, 1 made contact, the other didn’t, end of story. That’s never a red card in a million years, crazy decision.

The data does suggest we have a problem & it is costing us, so players need to sort themselves out and the management/coaching staff need to address it with a degree of urgency.

Our lack of discipline is going to cost us an automatic promotion place. With the injuries starting to pile up too, it's a big headache for Martin Paterson.

I think Norburn might have a two game ban instead of just the one game due to his 2nd red card of the season.

Notts have been accused of not being physical enough which has cost us in recent seasons, but lack of discipline is different to showing physicality in games. It's just a self inflicted wound.

Notts are in fourth place in the League 2 Poor discipline league.

There is mitigation in some cases @YoopEyes, Ndlovu's red was debatable and you're always going to pick up yellows due to the nature of this league. If you're not "up for the fight", you won't even be in the running.

Norburn's combative nature has done us good, but he's let us down twice now when every point counts. I've seen a few games now when he's been a red card waiting to happen - it's his responsibility not to be an idiot, but it's also down to MP to take him off when it's clear to everyone what's going to happen.

I mentioned that Ndlovu’s red card was ludicrous. We are a bit beyond the “unlucky” stage tho’.

The crazy element to me is that we are usually provoked or, at least, involved in mutually combative exchanges - the thuggery and dark arts that opponents utilise appears to go unpunished, for the most part. That is a result of both “cheating” and inadequate officiating in my view.
