I’m feeling very sorry for the media team at Notts at the moment. Almost every time the club posts a social media communication, a sizeable proportion of the replies seem negative, complaining, or even rude. The media team are simply providing a service to us as fans, sharing factual updates about staff changes and commercial decisions that affect the running of our club. Yet the tone of many responses suggests that the media team are being treated as fair game — a place for people to vent frustrations about transfer decisions that, of course, they have not made. I felt this especially strongly yesterday when Ollie Cooper arrived on loan: a highly regarded Championship player who many believe can revive his international career once he finds the right regular role. I’m personally delighted with the signing, as I’m sure are many of you reading this. But that isn’t really my point. My concern is the tone of the replies. Reading the reaction as an ordinary fan was disappointing enough, so what must it feel like for the people — or players — on the receiving end? Everyone is entitled to an opinion, and I’m certainly not afraid of sharing mine. My plea is simply this: aim messages at the right people, and keep them civil. That already happens on PoN, for which I’m very grateful — and it makes the contrast elsewhere all the more striking.

I’m sure it’s like a water off a ducks back and they are used to the vocal minority on social media who give us fans a bad name, it’s embarrassing to read sometimes and I try not to read the comments. I prefer this place which is much more civilised (usually).

Thanks @Fan of Big Tone That sounds like a sensible strategy. I'm sure the negativity directed at the club decision makers and recruiters is worse in the summer break when we haven't got refs' decisions, or opposition players to rant about. 🤔

I try not to let it get to me but I feel a little bit sad that there are Notts fans who are so critical and pounce on any bad news or even rumours, and can't even receive good news in the right spirit. I agree it's unhelpful and disrespectful. I had a bit of a rant on the other site recently which I'm embarrassed about but couldn't stop myself! I need to just accept that some people are not happy unless they're unhappy. Anyone working in a media role will be well aware of that side of human nature.

There are fans on social media that go too far when they berate the club on social media, but I do believe that constructive criticism is acceptable when it is warranted.

When a Football Club's board sits down to discuss planning & strategy, are we led to believe that everyone agrees about every aspect as one? Of course not but they will air their opinions in a constructive & respectful manner.

Everyone as an opinion including the fan base & as long as opinions are kept civil, & respectful, I don't see a problem. After all, this is a discussion forum. It thrives on opinion & all opinions should be welcomed even when we disagree with that opinion
