PoN - attempt at longest dental appointment

Recommended Posts

Well, it will all begin at 08:30 on Thursday morning, now for those of you who hate going to the dentist, look away now.

The appointment is set to last 8 hours (Eight), yes you read that right.... I mean this has to be the longest dental appointment in living memory, right?

Might have to enquire at the Guinness pump in the local, I reckon I could be in with a shot at the record.

What the heck are you having done that takes 8 hours?!!!!

Also I dread to think of the cost!

well, on Thursday, for the top set there is scheduled 6 extractions, either 6 or 8 titanium implant being put in, and then the temporary bridge fitting while it all heals... if he gets on with it ok, and if I am coping ok, then, there could well be another extraction and another 4 implants going in on the bottom

yeah the cost makes my eyes water more than the treatment...

That's why I haven't been to the dentist for 22 years now. Lost all confidence when they started every appointment with everything looks fine, then ends with we had to do this, that etc...

Fortunately, I've not had any issues or toothache in that period (apart from one Boxing day when I had toothache and finally realised it was my teeth getting used to the new electric toothbrush the Mrs had got for me!!)

I have scoped out all the emergency dentists for when the time does come, but I'm keeping everything crossed!

Well I hope all goes well @PTID1862, rather you than me. :panic:

I believe @super_ram once had a similar expense, though if I recall it was because they messed around with scans.

Hope your okay @PTID1862

Super will be cringing when he reads this.He did have a bad dentist experience a few years ago and he's still getting over the experience.

i dont think the dentist is all that bad, i hate going to see my local doctors.

doctors these days just give pills to help you feel better, which sometimes isn't always the case. at least a dentist does have your best interests at heart, if they decide to do work on your teeth they follow best practice. a doctor should, tho it goes out the window insult of giving pills.

I'm not even going to comment other than to wish you good luck @PTID 1862.I feel ill enough thinking about dentists.Oh and I know what you mean @hissingdwarf..

Thankfully we have a very good NHS dentist and it's actually a pleasure to go and see him. He always remembers personal things about us when we visit and it's like he's a friend.

Before we found him I had a terrible fear of dentists after a bad experience when I was young consequently I didn't visit one for over 20 years. The pain of bad toothache made me have to go whether I wanted to or not, we found this dentist and I told him of my fears and he couldn't have been more caring, he kept my mind off things by talking and explained every procedure whilst he sorted my teeth out, which included extractions and fillings. I was really surprised it wasn't painful at all.

When the treatment had finished I had the normal NHS rates to pay which are a lot cheaper than private.

The worst thing for me is the needle, I hate them.

How did it go @PTID1862?I hope it went well and you're ok.

@super_ram thank you

It went better than we thought for a couple of reasons, firstly when we got there and went to pay, found out the bill was only going to be 6 and a half ish (I can't remember now exactly), secondly my treatment was a success and was actually finished early, which proved to be a godsend... the Mrs was in the shops, and had to curtail the spending spree...

Well after my last round of work, in which My dentist decided in his wisdom not to take out the tooth that was required, and to put the implants in the wrong place, meaning I still have to have two more implants inserted....
