Favourite Books You Read As A Child

Featured Replies

Definitely, alot of ideas for his stories and jokes change everyday. I still have the little book he made me that said it was about dinosaurs but inside it had no dinosaurs, just loads of people

Harry loves us reading books....He's been obsessed with an Arthur one about going to school, since he started nursery! But he will gladly have you read to him. But we have always read to him so I think thats why.

Personally I loved burglar bill, jolly postman (one harry now loves) and all disney books.

Im looking forward to my nephew Jakes birthday as were planning on buying him some books, as he loves reading....maybe some horrible henry and some harry potter which he will hopefully treasure when he is older!

I like all the bits that come in the letters of the jolly postman book, i have wanted to get it the kids for awhile but not got around to it.

I'm sure he will love them, he likes the horrid henry book he got from school a few years ago. All the kids like books. Ellies favourite (which she knows the main bit of by heart and reads out along with me) is "The smartest giant in town" and also "The tiger who came to tea"(which she also knows alot of it too) I loved that when i was younger too.

Ava likes looking at books too but at the moment has the habbit of getting a pen so she can draw in them like she does on paper.

Jake still loves reading all kinds of books, but especially funny bones, dinosaur, sharks and ghost books. He wasn't very happy earlier when we took them all to the library and he couldn't find a book about sharks, but he eventually found one about scary looking fish which he loved.

I think Harry looked at a few books when he was around here before his birthday. It would be nice to have him over again sometime :)

Yeah, Jake and Ellie get quite argumentative with each other after school sometimes but nowhere near as much in the holidays as like you both said they get tired.. also niggly too.

Ava keeps missing naps in the daytime now and then gets very overtired and niggly towards the end of the night.

It's amazing how  much a very short nap of less than half an hour can totally revitalise the kids though. :)

This morning I read Harry a short Toy story book about 10 times.

No you didn't, you just think you did! Ask Harry, he'll remind you that the book was only picked up once. You just forget and think you read it more ;)

I read Ava a book the other day in the Library, she picked it up and I loved it myself. It was called 'My Dad is Brilliant'.

A field where dreams become reality.

If they like the book i'm surprised its not more. Its abit like yestaday Ellie wanted to do ring a ring a roses, which we did but Ava wanted to join in and that was it Ellie was asking Ava if she wanted to do it again and Ava kept nodding so i think we ended up doing that non stop about 15 times if not more. Back on the terms of books I think theres alot of newer imaginative books out now, but i still prefer the older ones like Dear Zoo and Tiger who came to tea. That reminds me of a book i wanted to get ages ago "there was an old lady who swollowed a fly."

Theres quite a few books that we will remember for years to come, but i think nowadays i still prefer to read books that i remember as a child to my own children. Nowadays if somethings on tv its also a book and theres lots of toys and clothes made with it on too. Which is ok in moderation, but there seems to be abit too much of it now.

In the mid 50's there was a Disney film called Davy Crocket-King of the wild frontier, which generated a craze for merchandise. I was 8 or 9 at the time the film was out and everyone at school HAD to have a Davy Crocket coonskin hat and a pistol. There was also a record out at the time and other things Davy Crocket related. As you say K8,the amount of toys/books etc advertised on TV and on display in shops,  often at inflated prices, makes it very difficult for parents.

If it was all at reasonable prices it wouldn't be so bad, but some of the prices just because of the brand/name is unreasonable. Clothes with characters on have gone up alot in the past year, that is a bigger problem for us because the kids like all the cartoon ones and they have all shot up recently... especially Jake.
