Unless Parliament protects football in this country,  the paymasters of the Premier League now seem to dictate to the FA and now towards the EFL, the financial screws for their own end benefit. I am fearful of the Premier League getting the full percentage foreign ownership to vote through no relegation at some point. Imperative that Notts mount a promotion challenge this season.

Here's part two.

Wow. A summary of the proposals:

- FA Cup rounds 4 and 5 to move to midweek in order to accomodate a winter break (although the bottom 3 divisions may play through the break).

- This winter break would apparently aid national team preparation. So our big clubs wouldn't just jet off to China and Dubai then, as Real Madrid, Bayern and co already do?

- "It is the EFL's belief" that making these two weekends available for Premier League fixtures would make up the financial shortfall caused by the lower number of games. But this isn't based on anything concrete, it's a guess. Nor is there any indication that the Premier League would share this hypothetical money with League clubs.

- Changes are mainly necessitated by fixture list congestion. That's fair enough. So why has the League just created EXTRA fixtures with their stupid B team trophy?

- Losses from the lower number of fixtures range from 600k in the Championship to 119k in League Two. Which is probably manageable.

They want to increase the number of fixtures played on Saturdays and bank holidays. That's something most people would support. However, how would this tally with the introduction of a winter break, which would remove Saturdays and bank holidays from the calendar? How would a winter break work in the Premier League in particular, where the number of fixtures will stay the same? Surely this will result in more congestion, not less. And how would this help the England team (and where have we heard that one before - were the FL born yesterday?).

I like what Accrington Stanley's chairman is doing, he asks their fans for their views and follows what they think rather than caring about money

Well, in a funny way I bet it makes him money. Smart person if you think about it, some think they can do whatever they want without listening and wonder why fans voice against them - Blackpool for example.

Blackburn's chair thought he could buy fans, false promises and the money being spent on gimmicks.

There's a lot of people in football that play these games, its quite sad.

We have to be careful as the Premier League hold all the cards. There are some significant drip down payments direct to the Football League ( I believe) and there is the remaining danger that all such distributions will get stopped.

It's wise to listen to your customers in any industry. Some football chairmen think they can do what they like because they have a captive audience. They're right - but only to a point. Patience is running out.

Given that one of the main problems with the existing structure is fixture congestion, it's interesting that neither the Rumbelows Milk Paint Pot Trophy nor the League Cup are mentioned in these proposals. Indeed, clubs are expected to hold at least one extra match in the trophy and are forced to play a strong team. On the other hand, they want to move two FA Cup rounds to midweek to accommodate a winter break. The easiest way to relieve fixture congestion would be to scrap the League Cup and/or the trophy, but the League will not even consider slaughtering their sacred cow.

The winter break...Spain has Christmas to New Year off, but most of inland Europe where in general can be snow bound, they can guarantee in a meteorlogical sort of way the winter period where they cannot play any games.

Let the Premier League have their break but "real" football should continue. I still prefer my suggestion of Anglo Scottish cup which could be played in part of final preseason fixtures. Hopefully we can re enter the Final Third devlopment league next season...a small version could help as last season Gateshead's fixture back log put pressure on Notts players playing so many games at the seasons end

The idea of a winter break is ridiculous, especially at our level where clubs make their money around the winter period, don't get me started on a league 3!

As much as I would like a winter break, even just something like 23rd Dec - 2 Jan off, I know that clubs will want to keep their players and make them play in "mid season friendlies" (such a thing should be put in room 101) to keep them fit and, crucially, make money.

I think the League Cup should be kept because it's another shot at glory for non-dominant teams (I mean who could forget Bradford's run to the final, Swansea winning it, Birmingham City and so on) but the JPT trophy is a monstrosity that needs to be binned asap.

@Joe Jones The economic argument dictates that Boxing Day fixtures sees above the average attendances. It's an important part of the financial equation. There should be no winter break.
