The Football Lab has named Rob Milsom as one of its League Two midfielders of the season.

From the article http://www.thefootballab.co.uk/2017/midfielder-of-the-season-notts-countys-rob-milsom/

"Michael O’Connor has been transformed since the appointment of Kevin Nolan, a line that could be attributed to many other players, yet Milsom has been consistent throughout the season. Every game he has worked tirelessly for the cause, whereas the commitment of his teammates under John Sheridan’s reign had been questioned."

Weird, I don't recall Rob Milsom doing much at all.

I'll have to have a read later but he wouldn't make my list that's for sure - personally I think we've been very hit and miss all season. So only Jon Stead seems to stand-out as anyone who's really stood out. Prior to his injury he was on fire, that sidetracked him a bit and of course the issues behind the scenes I suspect played a role in it.

Still I'm struggling to see how Milsom deserves such praise.

I must be in the minority then as I actually agree with the article.Β

Milsom was about the only player putting any effort in when Stead was injured, granted that he may not have been a stand out flashy player that catches the eye, but he was about the only one that actually went towards the ball and wanted it, the rest of the team were a disgraceΒ duringΒ that time.

Perhaps my memory is more focused on the fact there was a lot of negativity surrounding him always being injured, at least at the firs part of our current season he did very little. It's only recent weeks that he seems to have come good but he's not done a great deal for me to notice him.

@Piethagoram may see things differently, as I recall glowing feedback from him in certain games but I'm not sure he would be anywhere near my team of the season.

I think I'd struggle to select him within my starting XI.

I actually really like milsom, he doesn't make a massive impact but he tidies everything up and is always the one pressing, he just gets along quietly because he doesn't do anything spectacular but he does important work

@Chris "glowing feedback"????? Only in recent games has he stepped up and fulfilled a Neal Bishop-esque role. I want my players to earn their ratings, Milsom comes under "much better" rather than anywhere near "glowing". Β His Notts career, has been littered with injuries or being a makeshift Left Back. Nolan has certainly identified "horses for courses", making Milsom and O'Connor his first choice central midfielders. Good luck Chris, if you are willing to exclude Milsom in your team of the season? 10 successive defeats should still focus the mind. One should be concerned if the likes of Curtis, Richards, are moved on. Warning bells should sound if Smith and Atkinson are still on the midfield rota next season.

I'd have put Michael O'connor over Milsom, he's been on fire since Nolan took over and pre Nolan he was one of the few players who tried to make something happen and at the start of the season once his fitness came through he looked good!
