We start our series by DIDIER RABAT , a person we particularly like to write Actufoot83 ... Always available and listening, today Technical Advisor to the District, he works a lot to improve amateur football in the Var. Flash back in his company ...

His childhood…

At the Racing Club de Toulon, with his brothers Franck and Thierry, until he was 15 years old. He will be even champion of Mediterranean in Criterium ... (category above the League, at the time)

Its formation…

He joined the AS Monaco Training Center from 1982 to 1985 and then preferred to join Limoges, then in D2, to find his brother Thierry. He signed his first pro contract and scored a whopping 12 goals in one season !!! The two-year stay will be marked by a elimination in the semi-finals of the Coupe de France (against Lens, after eliminating Nantes in 1/4) ...

The "drama" ... (the signature at PSG !!!)

Indeed, he is recruited by the PSG President Borelli! After a world of clubs, however, rather successful in Milan in pre-season, he is on loan to Laval where he takes his first steps in D1, live on Canal + please, inflicting a scathing 4-0 in St Etienne !!! Then he gets injured seriously at Mayol during the 14th day of the championship (tearing of the ligaments with fracture of the fibula) and will stay away from the grounds for four long months. The recovery will be hard but the club ends in the soft belly ...

Laval-DR.jpg

The following season he is still on loan, but this time in Orleans, D2 ... If the club finishes 10th this season despite a shotgun start, the Cup will still smile to Didier because the team will climb to 1/4 Finale (defeat against Monaco) after having inflicted a 0-4 PSG at Parc des Princes in the previous round !!!

He will spend his third and last year of contract in the club of the Capital but by his own admission, he will be "bench" all year ... Regardless, he still considers today that it was "a magical experience ... Riding all these great pros, especially Safet Susic ... "

The train to Pau ...

After an unsuccessful attempt at Saint Etienne, Didier then takes the direction of Béarn and play three years in D3, Pau ... And once again Dame Coupe will make her eyes soft! A elimination in 1/4 of Final in Caen (with the penos) the first year and also in 1/4 for its last year, once again with the penos vis-a-vis Sainté this time ... The club will fail besides the doors of the D2 losing at the roadblocks against Lyon Duchère.

Then Didier will spend two seasons at ... Lyon Duchère who will be marked by administrative concerns while the club played the leading roles each time ...

Come back to the country…

After joining Jean Fernandez's LOSC, Didier took charge of Sporting because he was tired of waiting for his chance. Toulon is then in National and will reach the Ligue 2 while finishing Champion (1994-95). This is the only title of Sporting at this level ... And that year, the Coupe de France will still be at the rendezvous, including a victory over the Bordeaux Zidane, Dugarry, Lizarazu, Witschge and other Huard to Mayol in 1 / 16th finals !!! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=042trcqePgc  . All Varois football fans remember it !!! Unfortunately the adventure will stop against Montpellier the next round, in 1 / 8th of Final, lost to the penos !!!

After three years of Ligue 2 and a series of administrative downgrades Didier will finally go under other skies ...

Exotic destinations ...

He then lands in Notts County but for only 4 months, under the direction of Sam Allardyce !!! Then it's Reunion, with a season at St André before returning to the Var and play DH in St Cyr in a "big team of colleagues". Unfortunately a rupture of the ligaments crossed spoils the adventure ... Then he will perform a final freelance Sporting under the leadership of a certain JC Grasso ... Before going on a year of coaching and finally finish at ... Giens in 2006! !

After the football ... always football !!!

Crampons barely hung up, he immediately joined the District of Var as a Departmental Advisor of Football Animation.

He is today Federal Technical Advisor and his missions are:

  • Development of women's football
  • Development of football in schools (sports sections, football classes, ...)
  • Responsible for the course of excellence (Departmental Detections and Selections U13 / U14 / U15 / U16 / U17 / FUTSAL / Beach Soccer)
  • Diversified Football Development (Futsal, Beach Soccer, Sports Handicap ..)
  • Responsible for educator training
  • Technical help to Var clubs
  • Regional technical actions: participation in the BMF / BEF entrance tests, BMF / BEF positioning days, tutoring and evaluation of BMF / BEF trainees, participation in the BEES1 regional training course for educators, supervision of training, supervision of the various regional selections, participation in certification days of regional certificates.

Thank you Didier for agreeing to be the first ... Fabien 😉

A trip down memory (Meadow) lane... a good article from Mick Chappell

I love these trips down memory lane, especially when they feature a match I attended. The game when Ted Robledo helped Notts beat my team was my first away day game all those years ago. Thanks  @Piethagoram for  sharing.

Yeah.  Mick Waitt went to play in Hong Kong.  I think "Charlie" McParland did, too.

And strangely, we have one former Notts player who went on to win an international cap for China !!

I'll let you all have a think about that one for a bit. I'll be back here with the answer in a couple of hours...feel free to have a guess.

The answer to the question about a former Notts player who later played for China is......Mick Leonard !!

When Mick was coaching in Hong Kong, he was involved .... in a liaison capacity .... with a Manchester United tour of the region, during which they would play exhibition games. One of those games was against the Chinese national side, and somehow Mick ended up PLAYING for China in the second half of the game. !!  I think they lost about 9-0  ;-)

Lets not forget Luke Rodgers, who followed Hans Bakke to New York Red Bulls, where he played alongside Thierry Henry.
