Idea To Help Pon

Recommended Posts

nobody in my family really likes football, my dad would only take me because i asked him. it was just by luck that he took me to see notts, so i dont know anyone who is a support. all my friends support forest or premier league teams!

there is people here who might also know a member whos joined.

my idea is to see if we can help or encourage them to taking part, it is fun once you get into the mix of things and i think if we could get a few more active posters it would make the world of a difference.

It's a nice idea on the principle, though I try not to hassle or seem like I am Liam.

I am very confident that eventually people will join in and I am in the process of blogging about our features, as I hope this will help those who are unsure about the site or how to make the most out of it. Quite a few people will not comment, knowing that they are unsure how to use the text editor for example. We'll get there! By all means if anyone wants to try, this will help but I'm trying to focus my own time on making it worthwhile.

Very busy trying to mix things :P

i just thought how nice its been to see people like italian magpies and 2piesonmyshirt return to pon.

we have a good base as you say, i wonder how many of our members know each other and it could make a difference. i nearly did not join because i was not sure how i would get on with people, after joining elsewhere its hardly surprising.

I know buddy, I appreciate that and I am delighted also.

It's funny because you look forward to people visiting, when they disappear or become busy you start wondering. I haven't seen @MuddyPatchPie for a little bit, I really enjoy her views. Similar with Tony when he's away :)

Many of the existing active members do know those who joined, I often see a status on Facebook and realize that x is talking to z. We're slowly getting out there and if x encourages z we could be better for that. The problem is many will not know that z is actually friends with x, so that's where the problem is but if anybody knows an inactive member, go for it if you choose to.

I hate asking for help or asking people to retweet things, It's nice because recently quite a few have been sharing things and doing it themselves without me asking.

Hi Liam

It's a good idea but as Joe says we have to be careful not to pester people. I'm like you I don't any other Notts fan apart from MagpieJue who occasionally makes a fleeting appearance. I have tried to coax her to take part more and I'm sure she will when she finds time but I don't really want to go on and on about it because people have to make their own minds up whether they participate.

My mother had a great saying which goes something like "you can lead a horse to water but you can't make it drink".

I'm a little expert in forums as I was the admin of a Juve one and now I "live" on another Juve forum.

I think that the important thing is to not be in a hurry. I mean, not try to have 100.000 members or 300.000 visits every day. That's not the way as people getting frustrated. The important thing is to create a good climate (is it the right word?).

I think the site is good. The blog is impressive and It's well done. It's not easy to deepen every aspect of the club and you're doing well. The most frustrating thing is obvioulsy having no replies.

I thing the forum can improve by the social networks, but no many people make the pass from facebook to the forum. So maybe we are back at the head.

'll try to share it more on Italian Magpies. Maybe we can have some collaboration.

Oh one thing I think it's not attractive for the people: the writing "(Unofficial Notts County Fan Site)". I think it useless. People know this is not official.

If it's possible you can think to cancel it.

Don't know if it will help or not..

I agree with IM-Unofficial Notts County Fan Site sounds a bit subversive.I would prefer something like A  Friendly Notts County Fan Site That also welcomes other friendly fans

I keep it on because the F.A and Football league tend to be awkward with fans sites which don't have it, some will put up text at the bottom sayings "We have no official connection to Blah FC, We are an Unofficial Fan Site - All rights belong to their respective owners, Club logo trademark of Blah FC". There's a fee involved with being an official site, so it's like a TV License.

You do it to be safe.

My last forum I invited people and asked to join, it worked but it doesn't always and that was me being naive (as I tend to be at times).

The thing we need to do is just enjoy the forum, those who share our articles/messages are doing a great job and if we make sure we can keep activity up in the forum eventually more will take the dive. People will read us and go away, I hope they re-visit and consider taking part but an empty forum doesn't look inviting even if there is a few who post. We can win them over and the sites come along way :)

Stick with it because I greatly appreciate the help! I really mean that the site is ours because we're a community.

I agree with IM it does take a long time for a site to get established, we started our Motorhome forum 6 years ago and at first only had a handful of people at times I thought I was banging my head against a brick wall but it gradually built up membership now we have around 2600 members and I find it difficult to keep up with the posts coming in. I am proud to say the original handful of members are still with us.

Joe is right to say keep posting and make it friendly, a lot of people will come and only read but if they see fresh, interesting material being posted they will be tempted to join in.

We need to emphasise our friendliness and answer new posters whenever possible, in my experience people will return to a friendly welcoming site.

i know, i was just thinking if people happened to be close to them they might be more encouraged to join.

hopefully others see how much they help by visiting and posting, i dont know many sites which dont ask for fees or put ads up which i personally hate. i used to post on a general football site, it was mainly for fifa but someone buyed the site and it ended up requesting donations all the time via email. then ads went up all over and i had been a member of that site from like 12 or so.

I hope i'm not talking out of turn here but I don't know how Joe manages to run the site without putting adverts on, I assume he funds the hosting costs himself, as the site grows bigger so will the cost of hosting so either advertising or subscription or donations may be needed.

Liam I know what you mean, I've seen it myself.

Sometimes sites are purchased in order to maximize profit, especially if they're popular and it's very rare to see a site sold with it in mind that it will stay the same after. It won't apply here but I will do whatever I can to avoid ads and I won't be requesting donations, I don't like that.

Nobody speaks out of turn, valid thoughts and opinions is what keens things ticking.

Subscriptions is another story, if I go down a route it would be this but I would only ever offer value for such a service. PoN will not have ads or ask for donations, as mentioned above. There's ways to keep things a float and I have an idea for this which I think will eventually take place but my first thoughts are to deliver a good fan site.

Ads actually limit sites and tend to slow them down a lot, my focus will be on content.

I used to run a forum, but ads in to help with the costs, which I was funding myself.

Eventually after a few years the forum closed.

I had totally forgot to keep tabs on how much the ads were bringing in and when I checked it I had a nice little kitty to myself :P
