  1. I think Dan Crowley controlled the ball with his chest, not his arms, but the video angle does make it difficult to see clearly. The Grimsby player threw himself to the floor; it was one of the worst dives I have seen live. How the referee didn't book him for simulation I don't know. Notts made a strong start, displaying great focus and determination. Notts took control after scoring the further opening goal. I'm not even sure Grimsby had an attack in the first 15–20 minutes. If they did, I don't remember it. I mean, there were times later on when we had scored the second they looked determined to make a game of it. At times, I felt nervous about just how much we relied on two defenders to deal with their quick counters. They looked decent as a team with the ball, but clueless without it. Very poor defending, their keeper Jordan Wright had a pretty woeful game, but he was protected very well. Jodi Jones stunning goal, 100% a cross to the far post and the target was Jatta. It just flew into the net superbly, still a great goal even if he didn't mean it. I missed the Grimsby goal, I heard it was an Owler. It doesn't bother me, fans need to understand we are a squad that is League Two standard and some mistakes will happen. If they didn't, we wouldn't be in this league, nor would we have the quality that is in our squad. Even teams in the Premier League make fundamental mistakes, it's how you attack and learn. I believe we are showing signs, I am delighted for Stuart Maynard, and I would heap nothing but praise on the squad for an outstanding 90 minutes performance. Coming home, I think Mark Stallard was a bit complementary to Grimsby. I don't think they were as good as he made them sound, defensively they looked woeful, and I don't think Jordan Wright is a smart choice for their first keeper. As I said, coming into the game he makes me nervous, and I think he showed why. Yes, we were class, but Grimsby didn't really help by being pretty lacklustre. Solid win and overall performance, if we can continue to build on this we should have a good season in store.
  2. Just after five, I'll be setting off with the lads to go meet a mate and his partner. I am looking forward to the game, I will be keeping an eye out on which Grimsby players I think did well. I am hoping that Notts shows the same level of ball retenion but in a manner that doesn't focus just on one wing. Sometimes the middle opens up nicely, all it needs is for one player to make a good run and whoever had the ball to spot that movement. I am sure it's going to be a good game.
  3. He's a very good defender. Notts has shown some smart recruitment here because he will tick boxes with how flexible he is to cover positions. I think this is a great capture for us, I am looking forward to seeing Lucas Ness play for us when the time is right. Charlton Athletic have let go a player who had the potential to be a regular starter for them. A few more seasons, I am certain he would have been in the mix of their defence.
  4. Creidt to Notts County Foundation and our club, it's something worth supporting and trying to make a difference. I know a lady in the KOP, who has been fighting cancer. She's a lovely woman, known her for a few years now and always remember seeing her home and away, sadly I don't think she's well enough to go now. Certainly something which makes you proud of Notts, this.
  5. I remember a few challenges that Dion Kelly-Evans did whilst at Notts, some which could have easily seen him walk. Since leaving Notts, he's been a bit sulky with his previous teams and now that he's getting minutes with Woking, he commits a stupid challenge like this. It's not good or defendable by any means. Whilst I did like DKE for his effort, some of our fans cling to him like he was one of our best players, and he simply wasn't. His defending always seemed limited compared to his ability to go forward. If I had his pace, I wouldn't have slid in. It's not going to end well, he could have injured himself. I get that he's probably trying to retain his place and is just trying to work hard, but it's a poor decision. If a stream roller drove that fast, it wouldn't be permitted on a work site.
  6. I actually had a call a few days ago, my phone on silent, but I was using it to do something. I noticed the call screen come up, but it quickly ended. I heard what seemed to be a soft-spoken Japanese woman speaking very rapidly. Left a voicemail message. I couldn't make sense of it, I just deleted the voicemail. It was very odd, thankfully nothing jumped out of my phone screen like "The Ring" or one of their famous horror films. Otherwise, I would have had a heart attack.
  7. I think I would have to read their research before taking their thoughts as facts, it's so easy to get swept up with a lack of information. I don't have any concerns about how Notts are run; the club puts families first and does a great job with our younger fans. I am pleased that the YOUngPIES or whatever it goes under is much better run now. I would be very interested to learn why we were rated so low.
  8. I wouldn't mind being able to canoe around the city centre, I could use the paddle as a 2-metre distance marker when people tried walking past on their phones, totally oblivious to the fact they are knee-deep in water.
  9. I don't want to sound mean, but his best and only attribute was running. Yet, I wouldn't extend this to him doing it with the ball, he always looked quite clumsy and quite fortunate to be playing football. He never impressed me, and I would go as far as saying I believe clubs knew they could give him a hard time due to his lack of ability. I've never seen a player who had glimpses of looking decent enough, only to make a series of poor decisions. One of the worst crossers of the ball I have seen at Notts. I always wanted him to do well and he was friendly enough, I just never saw someone with ability. It could have been a confidence thing, but to me it was more a lack of technical ability. I'd always wish him well though.
  10. Jodi Jones is a beast when he gets his confidence going forward, in the first half against Fleetwood he seemed more annoyed and irritated. When his heads are in the game, he can be truly unstoppable going forward, and we are extremely lucky to have him at Notts. I think every fan in League Two will see Jodi as a quality player. I know Elliott who recently did the "Opposition View" with me had glowing words for him. I am pleased for Dan Crowley as well.
  11. The thing I find about Grimsby Town, is they tend to like to be considered the underdogs. Danny Rose is a player we know can cause issues for defenders, but if we remain tight to him and careful in the manner we challenge for the ball. I do think he would struggle. If he starts is a different question, but they have some very good players. Jordan Davies showed good form against Cheltenham, scoring a brace. He's on loan from Wrexham for the season. I am sure he will prove to be an important part of their team, as losing him would be a bit of a blow for them. I wonder if Wrexham does have a recall lease? @Dry Nelson Ray - timing might be hard, but I am sure it's obvious where I am going with this. *wink **wink I don't rate Grimsby's keeper and I also feel their defence can be a bit ropey. Jordan Wright, much like Jake Eastwood, lacks the experience you would expect from a first team keeper. Those are their two options, both of which have travelled between clubs and always seemed a backup. Eastwood once looked quite promising, but has settled for being a reserve keeper a bit too much IMO. Wright's performance for Alfreton Town was not impressive. He was Lincoln's backup keeper before signing for Grimsby, having come through Forest academy. A bit on the short side, but can be decent on his day.
  12. It is a very good read, something which Notts will further capitalise on I think. Sunday at The Nest was a sight to behold, teeming with an abundance of people. I walked past with the intention of swinging in and grabbing a couple of pictures with my mobile. The navi will also be pleased, as they were very busy too. There's further benefits such as seeing if we can obtain any of their young good players, something which Alan Hardy almost destroyed. I know the Reedtz brothers have watched some of their games from time to time; a friend of mine usually lets me know as he's a steward for them (also a Forest fan). It's good that we are showing Nottingham that the city has two teams and Notts are no longer happy being stuck in the days of the past.
  13. I'm reminded why I hate when the house is empty. @cheeky~k8, Jake, Ellie and Ava have gone over to her parents. I have been catching up with things, most PON related. On a different day, I would have been tempted to go spend time with @super_ram, but I will find time for that soon. The only thing away from my laptop that I have done is eat a cheese sandwich, take in a parcel and bring the bin down to my property.
  14. I rarely watch Fusion Josh. He gives me vibes similar to Harry Kane. But, this video was something that stumbled into my watch list when I allowed videos to overlap from what I was actually watching. It's a good video from the sense of capturing both sides and the vibes around Blackpool. I think the scenes near the end show how fed up Blackpool fans are. Blackpool's support was very impressive at the start and for most parts of the game, they seem to have been unlucky not to have taken the lead. Yet, Stockport are one of those teams that once they do score, they will push for more. I am surprised by how well they are growing, but I do think some of their fans are glory hunters and borderline delusional. They're not a Championship team, never have been but have a very good chance to become a stronger squad. I see no reason why they couldn't become a Peterborough United type team, but it's all about them being able to continue their success. As a team who benefitted from their time in the National League, they'll be wise to enjoy this and encourage it to continue.
  15. It's good football by Leicester City, this space opens up a lot when you tend to ignore an opposing player. Vardy showed his experience of reading the game and staying in an area where Spurs seemed to be ignoring. He did well, to make himself open for the pass even with all the space - as he could have strayed offside or alerted Tottenham Hotspur sooner. It's almost something you would expect to see on the training ground. Yet the save is very standard, had the keeper been beaten it would lead to questions. It's a very routine save. I do think a younger Vardy would have finished that chance much better, and I would say it was a wasted chance with a very poor finish. Take into consideration Jamie Vardy's age, then some credit can be given, but it was very soft, and the keeper had a higher chance of saving it than allowing it to be conceded. The ball is literally placed right at the keeper, which again, you would put down to Vardy's age and the fact he had burst away.
  16. @Robbie The star means it's featured. Circle dots show if the content is unread. It disappears when you have, so if you notice the circle re-appear it means there's something new which you haven't seen yet.
  17. Would you be able to screenshot what you mean, @Robbie? I'll take a look.
  18. I am aware that the video section isn't being counted to the daily target. This is being looked into and will be addressed ASAP, in addition to other changes. I am in the process of making live the new user post information.
  19. Introduction: Name: Elliott Hanley. Neil Wilkinson. How long have you supported Grimsby Town? Elliott: Since I started watching Town. Neil: 48 years. Are you a season ticket holder? Elliott: Yes, I have a season ticket. Neil: No. Age? Elliott: 27. Neil: 57. Favourite Player? Elliott: At the moment, there are a few. Neil: Danny Rose. What are your thoughts on Grimsby Town’s performance in their first game of the season, and how do you think it sets the tone for the rest of the season? Elliott: We weren't at our best, and it showed in the defeat. However, new players are still coming in and getting to know each other, so I wasn't worried! Yes, you want to start the season with a win and gain momentum, but August still feels like pre-season to me, with players coming and going. This was evident in the performances against Bradford and Cheltenham. Neil: A slow start, but you can see what they are trying to achieve. Playing from the back and then moving the ball quickly through the phases. It didn’t work particularly well in the first game of the season. Which player do you think has been the standout performer for Grimsby Town in these initial games, and what specific qualities or contributions have they brought to the team? Elliott: For me, there are three: McJannet has been brilliant, Khouri, playing at left-back, has put in a shift and done the job needed, but George McEachran has been quality! He looks like his time at Swindon is behind him, and he’s showing his actual potential. Neil: Jordan Davies is going to be our outstanding player. He’s a class above most in the division. He links the play up really well and can receive the ball in very tight spaces. How do you feel about the team’s current management and coaching staff, and what impact do you think they have had on the team’s early performances and morale? Elliott: I think we should give David Artell time and allow the season to progress; we’ll do well! Neil: Artell and the coaching staff always needed a pre-season with their own players, so time will tell, but the early signs are good. Morale will improve with each game, as will confidence once we start getting results under our belt. What do you think are the key strengths and weaknesses of Grimsby Town’s squad based on the first two games, and how do you think these will affect their performance in the upcoming match against Notts County? Elliott: I feel we need another centre-forward and a central defensive midfielder, but I think the team is strong. Thompson was a standout in the second half of last season, and we have a brilliant midfielder. However, we don’t have someone who can replicate Thompson, as most of our other midfielders are more attacking. Neil: We don’t appear to have much strength in depth. Our bench against Bradford was pretty weak. It remains to be seen which players will recover in time for the County game, but I’m confident that if we keep this group fit, we will do okay. How do you see the upcoming match against Notts County playing out, and what do you think will be the decisive factors in determining the outcome? Elliott: I feel Grimsby will win, mainly because I think you’ve got rid of some of your best players from last year. However, at home last season, Jodi Jones tore us apart and was brilliant. I’d take Jodi Jones at Grimsby in a heartbeat! Neil: I believe we will win. The midfield will be important. Ours is playing with a lot of belief at the moment after the last two games. We have to be decisive in front of goal, though. Are there any specific tactics or strategies you think Grimsby Town should employ against Notts County, and how do you think these will counter Notts County’s strengths? Elliott: Just carry on playing the way we are, and we’ll be absolutely fine! Artell-ball is in full swing! Neil: We’ve developed our style of playing out from the back and drawing the opposition in before playing through the lines. The result will depend on this continuing to work. Our confidence is up at the moment, so we should persevere with it. What are your expectations for Grimsby Town for the rest of the season based on their early performances, and what do you think the team needs to do to achieve these goals? Elliott: We’ll be absolutely fine. I think we might be underdog dark horses in my opinion. I think David Artell has implemented a way of playing which looks like it can work, especially if we work hard week in and week out! Neil: Again, we just need to persevere with our style of play. We are a much more confident side than last season, and I’m expecting a mid-table or above finish. I certainly don’t expect to be in a relegation battle. With some injured players back in the next few weeks, we will have some strength in depth, but we probably need a couple of players before the transfer deadline. Final comments from Chris It's going to be another difficult game, one where Notts must have to be at their best. Local derbies tend to be a bit disappointing, so I am hopeful that we can make a difference going into this game. Starting well, retaining the ball and creating clear chances would make things much easier. I expect Grimsby to be dangerous themselves on goal, but provided our defence continues to want to win the ball back. I am more inclined to think Notts will get the win. I am going for a 2-1 win. 20. It threw me off, oh well. I have hidden all the posts which came after, I think you are right @Fan of Big Tone. Also, yesterday didn't feel like a Saturday but a Friday to me. I make the days up as I go along anyway.
  21. I remember watching the Serie A and B season review, which Channel 4 used to do as part of their live coverage. I do recall hearing about them, but the rest I haven't. I wasn't aware there was a book on their downfall, but it seems a bit daft to throw a game. Their decline was probably a mixtured of everything coming together. Like when you get back-to-back promotions, you go the opposite way when the clubs not ran with care.
  22. Notts has always seemed reluctant to look into replica kits, when I was a part of group meetings this was often a suggestion put forward. I think the trade-off in terms of likeness to the original and issue with potential copyright is what has made it such a challenge. Fake kits are a different thing, but I know fans who have at times made their own because shirts are so expensive. These would be deemed fake by most clubs, but they're not being re-sold. Yet I could imagine if every EFL/Premier League team started telling their fans what they can wear in a ground, it would only make the problem more controversial. Fake kits tend to be hit and miss. I have a replica kit of the 80s shirt and I love it, even though the quality isn't great. It's the only one I would buy mind.
  23. There have been many times I have looked around Notts, Meadow Lane or at away games - especially when I used to go to them all. Seeing how much the club meant to everyone, how painful relegation seemed. Gillingham (League One) and Swindon Town (League Two) are two of the worst times I have seen our fans. Disappointment, worry and the unknown. Many I know feared relegation to the National League, likewise we thought being in League Two would reset the club. I get that there's more to life, there really is but those days when Notts seemed down and out. When fans didn't know what to expect or even if the club had a future. It's that what makes right now all the more special: we can heap thanks to the Reedtz - they deserve a lot of respect for handling Notts with the level of care that they do. Yet at the same time, the fans are the heartbeat of the club. Those who have been amongst all the struggles, going away games in the Non League and not treating the club like we're too good for it. Like it's somehow different to watch your team play at that level, those fans deserve the good and happier times. As for selling 6,000 season tickets. It's amazing. I hope many of the newer fans that come to games or are returning, continue to back the club and become what keeps us ticking on. A club without its fans isn't a club at all. It's good that our fan base sees the importance of community, because when it's tough we have them to rely on.
  24. Dan Crowley is a great player; he's very routine in terms of his performances and is always involved in games. A lot of the work he does tends to be unnoticed but even when you do see his brilliance you appreciate it. I think it would be a massive loss, but also very negative of the club to sell him to MK Dons. No more of our players should be sold to any League Two team, unless we deem them surplus to requirements. None of our main players should be allowed to walk so easily, no matter what their contact length is. The club really needs to try harder to get players renewing as early as possible. If players enjoy their football at a club, a one-year-deal isn't unlikely and we could offer a rolling contract. Two-Years to our main players should be the minimum, unless they request otherwise.
  25. It might have something to do with me not watching the Match of the Day very often, but why don't we see goals like these now? Matt Le Tissier was doing it week-in-and-out back in the earlier years of the Premier League. There's some cracking individual goals scored, most are team based but this type of brilliance I don't see as often. Paulo Wanchope, Gazz, Les Ferdinand, Robbie Folwer, Chris Sutton, Alan Shearer, Teddy Sheringham, Dion Dublin, Dwight Yorke, Ian Wright, Paul Merson etc - all made scoring volley goals easy. Some might not have done it every week, but in a season they would have put several past a keeper.
