  1. I would agree, it's just a tough start. I see them being about a mid-table team, so I am sure their results will pick up. I just hope it doesn't mean that Derek Adams gets the push, because he is more than good enough to turn things around given the time. Morecambe have had some good seasons in recent years, but they just need to pick themselves up and look to improve in time. Losing key players is never easy to bounce back from, but for a club of their size they are worth wishing the best to.
  2. It was great to see Jim and his son back at Meadow Lane. He'll always be welcomed here, and he gave us so much more than some fans realise. I felt pleased to see him being acknowledged more respectfully, as earlier last season there were a lot of disrespectful comments about him being past it. He proved himself with good performance over time, especially when the team struggled. He's a real modern day legend! Someone who should be held with higher regards than Michael Doyle.
  3. I am sure we will continue to see improvements, it's against the bigger teams where eventually we should see further signs of the squad becoming better. It takes time; nothing is lost if you don't push for better things. There's no shame in losing the game, pleased for Pies' to get two goals.
  4. I have just taken some cough and cold medicine, I think I am coming down with a cold. Today, I am focusing on catching up with various unfinished tasks. Otherwise, there's not much for me to report on. The house feels a bit of a ghost town now that Ellie and Ava are back to learning (college and school). I hope everyone is having a good Tuesday, I especially wish it for @magpiejue who's mum is celebrating her 93rd birthday today.
  5. He's been in incredible form; I certainly hope that he wins because it's nice to see him earning the recognition. I know there will be some fans who would like Jodi Jones to fly under the radar, but that's not what special players do. If he wins, it won't make him any more wanted by other clubs than he already is. So, let's enjoy his form and performances, with hope that he extends his stay due to the enjoyment he gets from being around Meadow Lane.
  6. I don't really want to give much thought to those fans who can't give Stuat Maynard support, however, I am not sitting on the fence here, but I can understand why some fans were doubtful. I would hope by now we're all mostly on board with him as the head coach. Much of last season was a natural thing, which thankfully we pushed through but in terms of learning experience that is vital. I have always found Maynard to be insightful with his approach to setting up the team; I could see and acknowledge the weaknesses in the squad. I think there was an element that some players performed better under Luke Williams, that might be considered to be his players and that they didn't quite give Maynard the support. The main thing is pushing and improving, returning to League One could be massive for Notts. There's little reason for negativity towards him, but I do feel there are some fans who can't give credit when it's due. Defensively, this season we are better, and I honestly believe credit here is somewhat deserved to Maynard. I believe if WIlliams were still here, he would have been asking the board for more attacking minded players and that we might still have some faults in defence.
  7. congratulations, @BromPie. It's great to see you coming on and joining in. The achievements members can earn, along with awards, is a nice touch to the community. We used to have a more feature-rich award feature, where mods and myself would award people for their participation. On older forums, there used to be a post rank that increased based on contributions, but now it's all tied in with the reactions and content. I utilize some of the traditional methods that community software employs to recognise the contributions of its members.
  8. League Two's Vincent Kompany. No doubt at this level he's one of the best defenders in the league, us being linked and ultimately signing for us was very exciting. I knew he would make a huge difference, it was Matty Platt that I was unsure about, not that I didn't rate him as a defender but because Bradford City fans claimed he couldn't pass a ball. Yet he did praise his defensive mindset, which seems to give Jacob Bedeau confidence to be even more at his best.
  9. I think Greg Abbott is an alright assistant manager, but that's his level. He does have an eye for players, but I am not sure if it's always his best asset. If Carlisle is asking him to make recommendations, I see nothing wrong with that role because Elliott Whitehouse for example just needed game time. He did well once he found a club that would give him starts, although he's fallen down the football pyramid, he was never a bad player. The issue the season we had with Abbott and Shaun Derry, it was a budget issue and the focus of wanting to find "young" players. I thought Derry would have got us back up to League One had he stayed and whilst we had a decent season with Ricardo Moniz, who again, isn't at fault for how things turned out, I do think sacking Derry was a mistake. Abbott is a decent coach, so scouting shouldn't be that difficult for him. I can't say I know much about their issues, but I don't think it would be Abbott's fault. If he's actually signing them, then that might be different, but I assume he's just recommending players to the club. I once gave Greg Abbott (whilst he was with Shaun Derry) a PON business card. I asked if I could interview them, Derry looked uneasy and Abbott looked at the card, then responded "What do I want with this?" I told him to have a look at the site and that I hoped they would be open to the interview. He looked pretty unsure about what I had given him. Quite bemusing, it wasn't in a rude way either. More oblivious and dense.
  10. A friend said that they spoke to Macaulay Langstaff this past Saturday, and mentioned that he seemed optimistic and said that the club haven't given up on him. So, it's possible that he's being slowly introduced in the right games. Though, the Millwall manager doesn't seem all that confident and seems to be quite fickle. They would make a huge mistake by not giving at least a season to embed. If they go down, then he will find his form with them and should help fire them back up, so I wouldn't be concerned as a Millwall fan. I've said this a few times here, their midfield needs a bit more fight but defensively, Millwall are very poor. They would do well to sign a few good players in this department, especially a proper Championship level centre back.
  11. To be fair, San Marino is improving as a nation. I am not sure if it's something that will sustain and see 'long term' improvements, but I do think this won't be their only win. I'm absolutely loving the tweet from Paddy Power about United! They'll be losing support and custom from many fickle football fans though.
  12. I miss football comedy. I wished Frank Skinner and David Baddiel would bring Fantasy Football League back. That sketch is actually very amusing; I like the concept of it. ????
  13. If he had left Harrogate, I would have been surprised as at 33 he needs to be fighting to remain as their first choice keeper. I think Forest Green Rovers will have regrets about letting him go. Fingers crossed he can see out his career in League Two.
  14. When I feel up to it, I'll see about going back on it. Charlie McParland was nothing but great with me, helped to ease my nerves and even John Thompson said I had it. I really appreciated that support. I don't watch Notts TV much, but I should give Team Talk another go. Now that there's no longer a Football League show, there's some time to be able to catch this as I used to watch that. Charlie is mistaken in his belief that David McGoldrick should be a guaranteed starter in every game. He will soon tire up and having spoken to my dad, he said it happened at Derby where he would turn up and sometimes he didn't. I think so far, we have the balance right because he has to fight and perform well to start. Last season he started way too many times, and he just played very poorly towards the middle to the end (with some okay performances in between).
  15. It was a great game and day for Notts County. I don't want to repeat myself as I have said this a few times, but I watched the game whilst away with my family. The opening ceremony was amazing! I have always been very proud of the connection and friendship forged with @Italian Magpies.
  16. David McGoldrick worked hard, but it wasn't his best performance. I sometimes feel annoyed when the Man of the Match is named, usually to the people who the hospitality match sponsors want to meet. I don't think this was the case yesterday, but those two goals were. Not long into the second half, he looked to be reserving his energy and looked very tired. So, he wouldn't get my vote even though he was clinical on goal. Curtis Edwards had a brilliant first half, but quit down in the second. Unselfishly, he decided to assist when an effort on goal would have been a better idea. I'm a bit bemused by fans who don't seem to like or credit Edwards. Conor Grant was very similar to Edwards, brilliant first half and quite involved in the second but not close enough to be named the Man of the Match for me. Jacob Bedeau would get my vote, a very good presence and contribution by him.
  17. It was a wasteful signing, one I think Luke Williams wasn't committed to trying. I think Williams preferred more senior players in defence, as Lewis Macari wasn't always given a fair chance, which is fair enough it's a different style, but the loan move just proved to be pointless for us and Ollie Tipton. I wish him all the best with kick-starting his career, I hope Solihull Moors proves to be a good fit for him.
  18. It feels as though it's the same as those fans using Stuart Maynard's previous full-time position as a BT Technician against him. Lee Carsley is entitled to sing if he wants, or not. People really need to stop jumping on things because when the same lot complains the world has gone mad, political correctness this and that - well they're part of the problem. The only thing I care about is signs we are good enough, along with results.
  19. Honestly, I thought this was a more American thing. At least until I reached year 10, when my PE teacher Mr Wilson pulled out these very old ropes and showed us how to climb them. I had no issue with doing that; coming down is what I feared. If you weren't careful, not only would you get rope burns from holding tightly, but have them on the way down. I'm not a fan of heights, but I move very slowly and akwardly coming down from the top. One of my friends, just refused and I wished I had. Mind Mr Wilson, it was the same person that told me to get up when I suffered a dislocation to my right knee. That wasn't a pretty sight!
  20. I didn't see him leave the field, so I can't really comment on the limping. I am not keen on him playing deeper, I think it largely subtracts from his performance and I would welcome a run as the striker provided he was fit enough. I wouldn't mind him here or there in midfield; I think he has done well in the role and especially prior to his injury. He might need time, I guess, but I feel he's not reaching the potential his performances can give. It's why I felt pleased to see him further up when he came on. I hope he's okay; we can afford to give him recovery time if he needs it. Losing him to a longer injury, would be more problematic in the long run I feel.
  21. I nearly died when I noticed this. I was worried you might give credit to an outfield player!!! Michael Kelly, aka Aiden Stone's brother, does deserve to be mentioned! I thought he was outstanding, saving Accrington Stanley from a very embarrassing outcome. Nelson Khumbeni, I think is the god awful player that could have hit the target in the first half for Accrington but seemed to shoot away from goal and more towards where I sat. He seemed to blame his boot, though it was like he saw the ball move much slower than what it did because the connection on the effort wasn't very good. I thought he did some decent running, but I wasn't impressed with any of their outfield players.
