An Alex Bass Masterclass.
Great to see Bass complete his treble of clean sheets! It must give the back line so much more confidence to know they have a reliable keeper behind them. He's already won us points on his own.

Cedwyn Scott takes leave of absence
Everyone at the club should give him the time he needs. Some things are more important than football. Notts can bring in another striker to cover (on loan), but Cedwyn only has one life. Hope to see him back soon, enjoying life and enjoying his football!

Fergie To Return To Manchester United?
This is wild. He was paid 2 million a year to sit in the stands looking mardy? I could do it for half that (plus a personal pie budget).

Weekly chat 14th - 20th October
Memory unlocked. I'm walking away from the arcade at Skegness or possibly Winthorpe with my parents and my sister. My sister had been given a big bag of 2p coins, which she had blown on the machines (I may have "helped" her). She won nothing. So the money has gone and we're empty-handed. My dad asks her, "So what's the moral of the story?" Her response? "Need more tuppences!"

Weekly chat 14th - 20th October
Hey, I'd love to share more from my impossibly glamorous life but most of it is spent at my desk or on the sofa. But I have been making plans to go to Frankfurt next weekend to meet some pensioners I met on holiday, so there's that. I might share a picture if you're all good. On the subject of sport, I had a bike ride today but it wasn't the best of ideas - it's been foggy and misty all day and I ended up with cold ears. I try to ride my bike to work on office days, it's a 20 km round trip so a pretty decent workout. But I don't do it that often as I'm a right old wimp - a hint of rain or morning frost and I'm out. Enjoy Skeg Vegas @Chris and family!

Match Discussion: Game 12 - The Wombles (H)
It was a scruffy game won by a scruffy goal, but we hung on in there when we were struggling to join two passes together in the first half and showed a marked improvement in the second. That'll do for me!

The Notts Defensive Back Line.
To put that into context, we kept eight clean sheets in the whole of last season. There's no need to change things unnecessarily now that Nessie has been discovered and McDonald has returned from his farm. However, it does give us a bit more strength in depth and competition in an area in which we were a bit thin. They won't go straight into the team, but they've got an incentive to force their way into the first 11.

BBC Grandstand teleprinter....
Also, always loved how his voice rose and fell depending on who won. You could tell who had won and lost before he even got to the number. I used to imitate it as a kid.

Push The Button
I agree with @Robbie and @Chris here, a downvote button would be negative to the climate and vibe of the forum. I've seen it in Reddit too, it makes it much too easy to just downvote something you disagree with and move on. The way things are now, you can only show that you disagree with something by making a post and stating your view, and isn't that what a discussion forum is all about? I want to hear different views (as long as they are stated respectfully of course). Unless they're disagreeing with me of course. In that case it's off to the dungeon!

Please Say It Ain't So
Redknapp is entitled to his opinion @Robbie, but he's always been very cosy with the media. The man's a windbag. Ultimately, being super patriotic in front of the media won't help you when you've got a football team to motivate and organise. I'm not delighted with the appointment myself. I was hoping that the FA had moved away from their old model of appointing a big-name club manager in the hope of instant success. Gareth Southgate proved that we could be more successful with a coach who had the right attributes for the job, even if that man didn't necessarily have a glittering club career. Instead they've gone down the Capello route again. There's a caveat here - big-name managers have a big name for a reason. They have proven that they can handle the pressure at the very highest level, in a way that Carsley maybe hasn't. It's just a shame that a country with such a large pool of talented footballers seemingly can't produce a single coach deemed worthy of leading the national team.

Match Discussion: Game 12 - The Wombles (H)
I feel that Wimbledon's ability to play both underground and overground will give them the edge Our poor record against the better teams held us back last season and seems to be continuing this time as well, so a point at least is a must. Really we could do with a win to maintain our momentum. It'll be tough though, with the Dons only conceding 5 goals in their 8 games so far.

The talent drain from Scotland, Brexit being a significant factor
"Overseas" is a vastly bigger talent pool than just the UK, you're inevitably going to find better players and managers because of the sheer numbers. And Premier League clubs are wealthy enough to cherry-pick the best. Whether that's what they SHOULD be doing is a different matter. Of course we need to provide incentives for clubs to promote domestic talent, otherwise PL clubs will just assemble global dream teams and our young players won't get a look-in, hindering their development. The knock-on effect for smaller Scottish clubs is that PL clubs are taking a closer look at young Scottish players and helping themselves.

Teversal FC away end!
Ah, the legendary Tesco Trolley Park stand! To be fair to them, loads of non-league clubs are acquiring identikit stands that aren't very different to bus stops. As long as it keeps the rain off...

Prediction league 24/25 round 11 - Saturday 12 October
I think you should appoint Harry Kewell as your manager, things are bound to improve then.

Thomas Tuchel New England Manager.
Seems a bit of a strange appointment to me given his talent for falling out with people. At least no one can accuse the FA of appointing a "yes man" this time! It's also a bit sad that we're having to appoint from abroad again. Have English coaches so little to offer? As coaching the England team is very different from being a club manager, I'd have been happy with a "no name" coach who knows the setup and can organise and inspire the players. Whether Carsley would have been an option I don't know. But of course I hope TT does well!
